Dr. Malcolm Hart Harris, now deceased, did a good deal of research on William Harris and Temperance Overton and some of their descendants. His later studies were published in volumes of The Virginia Genealogist edited by John Frederick Dorman. Dr. Harris did not link William to the Jamestown Harrises. Those of us who have studied this couple--William and Temperance--have reservations that they are linked to the Harris who was early at Jamestown. I have not studied those Jamestown folks a good deal, but enough to rule out that William Harris is linked to Thomas Harris, I believe his name was, of Jamestown. If you can interlibrary loan Adventurers of Purse and Person, the latest edition by John Frederick Dorman, and published by the First Families of Virginia you will find that the first four generations of that Harris are given, and William is not among those. The book itself, I believe, costs in the neighborhood of $85.00. How are you descended from William and Temperance Harris? I may be able to share some information with you, but I have not studied all their children--too many Harrises in colonial Virginia--and too many "burned counties." E.W.Wallace
