    1. [HH] William Harris & Samuel Harris of Lunenburg Co., VA
    2. Ira Harris has been posting information on Harris-Hunters and Harris-ColonialVA concerning pre-Revolutionary Virginia land patents which pertain to Harrises. At the same time, he is asking about relationships of these persons. The following deed indicates that two Harris men in Lunenburg Co. were known to each other, but it does not state the relationship. Since a consideration (money or goods) is involved, it appears they were NOT father and son, since frequently there is a phrase, *for love and affection* -- but not always. (I have an exception in my colonial Goochland Co. family). Lunenburg Co. DB 2, p. 57: Jul 3, 1757 from William Harris of L[unenburg] & in Cumberland Parish, to Samuel Harris of same, 60 pds., grants 1 plantation & island of 70 acres, it having been patented by William Harris on Apr 5, 1748, and bounded by Stanton River between Byrd's Island and Cargill's Island. Recorded Jul 3, 1750; Judith, wife of William relinquished dower. (TLC Genealogy, LUNENBURG COUNTY, VIRGINIA DEEDS, 1746-1751 [Miami Beach, FL: TLC Genealogy, 1990 & 1992], p. 33) These men also appear as witnesses to several other deeds. So does a Ben [not Benjamin] Harris. Sam. Harris also appears in July 1750 as executor of the estate of Adler David. To those Harris-Hunters who are looking for Claiborne associations with Harrises, several Claiborne males, namely L. Claiborne Jr. and Thomas Claibore [sic] and Ben Harris are witnesses to a deed DB 2-225, Jan 1, 1750 William Reed of Lunenburg to John Ruffin of Surry Co. And that's all I know about these Lunenburg Co. Harrises of early date. E.W.Wallace
