    3. I was very pleased recently to discover that on HeritageQuest, a database to which many public libraries subscribe (check with your State library if no local one has this database) to find this book. (Do you have Scotch Irish who came down the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and are found in the records of such counties as Albemarle, and surrounding counties? The title which I found was by John Craig. List of baptisms by Rev. John Craig, Augusta County, Virginia 1740-1749 (Staunton, VA:L. B. Halke, 1930, 39 pages.) On page 2 under date March 1741 No. 4 (perhaps the date) 4.  John McCord, a child Baptized named Agnes.  ) At William Wallis Comment:  I am pleased to know the name of the father of Agnes McCord, later Mrs. Christopher Harris of Albemarle Co. and later of Madison Co. KY. When I do a google search for what I hope is some genealogical information, I find an article naming the supposed father of Agnes as Johannes McCord.  (Why mixing a German given name with a Scottish [or Irish] surname?  Because of this misnomer, I rejected the whole on-line *family* history. I understand that Rev. Craig would baptize anyone who asked him.  That same month on March 14 is this entry: 14.  Jacob Stover, and adult person Baptized.   (As I remember reading pages and pages of the various volumes of Cavaliers and Pioneers [land grants of mostly colonial Virginia] Stover got large grants of land in Shenandoah Valley.)  (I should pay more attention.) Another find: March 1741 8.  William Vordiman, a child Baptized Jemina (I find some century or so later, my widower ancestor William Rose married Polly Vardiman in or around St. Tammany Parish, Louisana.  Only she was a widow of a man named Moore, as I remember.  She was a daughter of one William Vardiman.  More study is needed.) I had better read every line in these 39 pages of cited book.  Maybe I will find some other lost ancestors. E.W.Wallace I had better read the WHOLE

    3. Hi Evelyn Speaking of our Vardeman ancestors. . . I ran across a series of interesting findagrave sites yesterday about yet another family of intrepid Vardeman pioneers. James (ca 1750-1797) was the 4th son of "our" William Vardeman with his 2nd wife Bridget Tinkler. James and his 2nd wife Sabra Lyles had a son, William (1775-bef 1840) in the old 96th district in SC. He married Ruth Vining (two of his brothers also married Vining sisters). William, Ruth, at least four of their children and three other families traveled by wagon and raft from Putnam Co, GA deep into Alabama. The area where they settled in 1819 was then populated by Creek Indians who were not happy about their arrival. It is now Talladega Co, AL. Two Vardeman sons and two daughters married two Robeson daughters and two sons. If you follow the links starting with William and Ruth, you will find dozens of gravestone photos and interesting family stories about one line of Vardemans about whom I had know little. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=34923240 On Oct 18, 2012, at 4:40 PM, EVELYN WALLACE wrote: > I was very pleased recently to discover that on HeritageQuest, a database to which many public libraries subscribe (check with your State library if no local one has this database) to find this book. > > > (Do you have Scotch Irish who came down the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and are found in the records of such counties as Albemarle, and surrounding counties? > > The title which I found was by John Craig. > > > List of baptisms by Rev.
