    1. [HARRIS-HUNTERS] Harris-Essex Co., MA 1700-1765 to Mason Co., KY & Harris-MD, ca. 1693
    2. Hello all, I have not posted to the list in a while and wanted to share my lines for those who may be new to the List. I have 2 HARRIS lines and at this time have made no connection between the two. First HARRIS line: Me, My father, My grandfather, Great-grandparents: Edward Harris GIBBS, b. 1849, Hancock Co., KY; d. 1926, Spencer Co., IN + Ella Catherine GAYNOR, b. 1866, Hancock Co., KY; d. 1942, Spencer Co., IN m. 10 Aug, 1882, Hancock Co., KY GG-grandparents: Thomas Newman GIBBS, b. 1802, Loudoun Co., VA; d. 1876, Hancock Co., KY + Eliza Isabella HARRIS, b. 1815, KY; d. 1880, Hancock Co. KY [3rd wife] m. 30 Sep, 1841, Hancock Co., KY 1880 Mortality Sched. states her father b. Massachusetts; mother b. Virginia 3G-grandparents: Edward HARRIS, Jr., b. 1768, Newburyport, Essex Co, MA; d. ca. 1824, Washington, Mason Co., KY + Elizabeth CAMPBELL, b. ca. 1780, possibly Augusta Co., VA; d. prob. Mason Co., KY; dau. of Robert Campbell & Rebecca Wallace (both prob. d. Mason Co., KY) m. 7 Jun, 1799, Mason Co., KY 4G-grandparents: Edward HARRIS, Sr., b. 1739, Newbury, Essex Co., MA; d. ca. 1824, Washington, Mason Co., KY + Abigail ATKIN m. 29 Oct. 1765, Newburyport, Essex Co., MA 5G-grandparents: Samuel HARRIS, b. 9 Apr, 1695, Ipswich, MA (maybe); d. 1757 + Abigail PRESBURY, d. Jan. 1801, Newburyport, Essex Co., MA m. 1 Feb, 1738, Newbury, Essex Co., MA I am reasonably certain of my data up to this point. What I am less sure of is the next generation. Some have the parents of my Samuel HARRIS as: Sergt. John HARRIS, b. 1652, Ipswich, Essex Co., MA; d. 1732, Ipswich, Essex Co., MA + Grace SEARLE, b. 1742, Ipswich, Essex Co., MA I am not sure if Sergt.John & Grace (Searle) HARRIS are the parents of my Samuel HARRIS. This is what I have in my Notes: "There is further research needed on this Samuel. I am sure that Edward Harris, Sr's parents were Samuel and Abigail (Presbury) HARRIS; however, I am not sure that their son Samuel was b. 9 Apr. 1695, in Ipswich. MA, nor am I sure that this Samuel's father was Sergt. John. I am sure that Sergt. John had a son, Samuel, who was b. 9 Apr. 1695 in Ipswich since there is a vital record of that - but is he "my" Samuel? There is a court record for the marriage of John HARRIS and Grace SEARLE on Jan. 8, 1685 in Ipswich." ...end notes There are two publications that I relied on in the research of this line: 1. JOHNSTON, William Preston, 'Edward Harris and His Ancestors; 1634-1820', Pub. 1899 2. DAVIS, Walter Goodwin, 'The Ancestry of Bethia Harris .. ' ... and, guess what - there are discrepancies between the two. I don't know which one is right. I do not personally know of any living male descendants of Edward HARRIS, Jr. but I do know that Eliza Isabella (Harris) GIBBS had a brother - Alfred Wallace Rutherford HARRIS (1803 - 1880). He lived in Louisville, Jefferson Co., KY from 1830 - 1880 (Census data). He had 5 sons that I know of: 1. William M. (b. abt 1838), 2. Charles H. (b. abt. 1839), Charles H. had two sons that I know of: 2.1. Wallace R. (b. abt. 1875), 2.2. Charles Jacob (1879- 1931; b & d Louisville, bur. Cave Hill Cem.) Charles Jacob had one son that I know of: 2.2.1. Charles J., Jr. (b, abt. 1916, prob. Lville, Jefferson Co., KY) 3. Alfred Wallace (1842 - 1926, bur. Cave Hill Cem. Louisville) - applied & accepted to Sons of Am. Rev. on the service record of Edward HARRIS, Sr., 4. Henry W. (b. abt. 1843), 5. (Dr.) John E. (b. abt. 1847) That ends my descendant information for Alfred W.R. HARRIS (1803-1880). Second HARRIS line: Me, My father, My grandfather, Edward Harris GIBBS, see above, Thomas Newman GIBBS, see above, John Harris GIBBS, b. 1775, Loudoun Co., VA; d. 1847, Hancock Co., KY +Nancy E. SORRELL] James Lewin GIBBS, b. 1750, Prince George's Co., MD; d. ca. 1822, prob. Loudoun Co., VA +Jane TURLEY m. 1769 James GIBBS, Jr.; b. 1709, Prince George's Co., MD; d. 1764, VA + Ann FENLEY; b. 1715, d. 1776, Prince George's Co., MD m. 1736 6G-grandparents: Charles FENLY, b. 1689, Calvert Co., MD, d. 1744 + Elizabeth HARRIS; b. 1693, Talbot Co., MD m. 11 Apr 1711 (MD, possibly Prince George's Co.) George HARRIS (uncertain, source: FTM User Tree: The Finleys of Scott County Indiana) I know very little about Elizabeth HARRIS who married Charles FENLY (various spellings) and nothing about her supposed father, George. If anyone sees a connection for either of these lines with a known Harris DNA Group, please let me know. Happy to share what I have with anyone interested in these Harrises.
