    1. [HARRIS-HUNTERS] 1790 Guilford Co., NC Census redux
    2. Pam Stone
    3. Hi, all, I was unsatisfied with the research I had gathered for the family of Obediah Harris Sr. (1741-1830) in Guilford Co. in 1790, so went back in search of more of his family, carefully reviewing each page of the 1790 census. I still don't know where Obediah & Rebecca's eldest son was at that time, but I do know that their son, Benjamin 1764-1850) was not in either Surry Co. or Guilford Co., NC. However, I did find two of Obediah's daughters' families, and have put the additional information into the family records. I realize that few persons on this list may be interested in the Mendenhall lineage coming into this Harris line, so I will just state that there is clear proof that Mordecai & Charity Mendenhall, a newly-married couple, moved from Pennsylvania to the Hopewell Monthly Meeting in Virginia in 1736, and were granted a certificate with their family to North Carolina in 1756. Their oldest child was Richard Mendenhall, b. 1737, and who was "LOST" in 1773, whose wife was Jane. A younger son of Mordecai & Charity was Stephen, the father of Maris Mendenhall, who was the first wife of Obediah Harris Jr./II. So here is the corrected rendition of the 1790 census of Guilford Co., NC.
