Hi Diane, I saw this post and wondered if you knew the wife and children's names of William Harris, Jr. Thanks, Fran Hill ________________________________ From: Diane Holmes <holmes-diane@att.net> To: Anne Harris <amh504@yahoo.com>; harris-hunters@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, August 29, 2012 7:09 AM Subject: Re: [HARRIS-HUNTERS] Some Edgecombe Co. NC Info Hi Anne, I do not know if this is the Capt. William Harris you are looking for, but my William Harris who was born in 1716 was married to Mary Netherland. There is some problem in tracing him back to Capt Thomas Harris. William lived in Albemarle County, Virginia. His children were William Harris Jr., Sarah Harris, Matthew Harris, Benjamin Harris. Let me know if this helps. My home phone number is 305 233-2272. Diane D. Just for info - Albemarle Co. was formed 1744 from Goochland and Louisa Cos. Goochland was formed from Henrico [pronounced Hen-rye-co] in 1728. Louisa Co. was formed 1742 from Hanover Co. [nearly all records prior to Civil War burned as Richmond was being evacuated by the Confederates.] Arlene Eakle, compiler of the first edition of The Source, says in one of her lectures on colonial Virginia, If you are researching in Virginia, research ALL the counties. (Tobacco wore out the land, and younger sons may have had to move. Primogeniture was the law until after the Revolution.) Some Netherland info. See Virginia Patent Book No 10 for patent of Edmund Jenings, Esqr of York Co. His patent was for 531 3/4 (Old and New Land) St. Pauls Par in New Kent Co. {part of which became Hanover Co.] 26 Apr 1712. Adj. Robert Netherland. Either go to the Library of Virginia website [google for it] and search the Land Records [the index includes the words Northern Neck land grants] for both Jenings and Netherland. Then find Harrises whom yoy suspect intermarried with these families. A noted author Lloyd Dewitt Bockstruck stated in a nationwide conference in Richmond some years ago, Fellows married the girls downstream in Virginia. OR, if your library has at least the first three volumes of Cavaliers and Pioneers by Nell Marion Nugent, search the indexes for not only Harrises but whomever you suspect they married.
