Dear Pam, Thanks for making a correction, although this Harris is not in my pedigree. As I go over my genealogical notes made over the decades, I find I have made errors, but that comes with experience--and reviewing my notes over and over again. I cannot stay awake long enough these days to review my numerous notes (and my loose papers collections), and now my opthmologist (a fuss budget, but conscientious) tells me my eyesight is deteriorating!!! Most of my Virginians--Harrises, Williamses,Tribbles,a Washington family of south of the James [not the rich ones up North] et al, had left Virginia by the date of the document (a will in this case) you share. Tyree Harris, the eldest son of Major Robert Harris of Louisa Co., had long before departed Virginia and became involved in Orange Co. NC politics (and some skulduggery also, if I can believe the remaining court records of Orange Co.) If you can find in a nearby library (perhaps a University library) three volumes called The 1787 Census of virginia by Netti Schreiner-Yantis and Florine S. Love, take a look at the index in the third volume, and note HOW MANY Harrises are listed!!! This is really not a census but makes up for the 1790 Virginia census which did not survive. These volumes are compiled from the many PERSONAL PROPERTY tax lists for most counties in Virginia, which included Kentucky, not yet a state. Of course, I was interested in the 1787 personal property tax list for Albemarle Co., VA where I hoped I would find and did find Christopher Harris. But taking a look at the census index in Vol. 3, I saw he was listed twice. He was already moving personal property (livestock, I seem to remember) to Kentucky (Madison Co. where he died testate--naming 19 children, a few deceased.) Many widows are listed with their taxable (tithable) sons in these lists, so take a look in this so-called census indexes--in Vol. 3. And don't be surprised if your ancestor is listed twice. He may have had personal property in two counties--which counties may have adjoined each other. Evelyn W. Wallace
