BY THE PRESIDENT, James K. Polk By J H Stephens Asst Sec'y T. H. Laughlin, RECORDER of the General Land Office. My purpose in these 4 postings in detail is to prove: 1. The Rebecca Harris who married Bailey Dent around 1815-18 in Kentucky was not the daughter of James and Susannah Gass Harris as she was still single when the above deed was made in 1836 in Tennessee. 2. That James Harris, son of Samuel and Rebecca Morrison Harris, married Susannah GASS. It is my opinion the LAND PATENT issued to DAVID GASS HARRIS is documented proof.
