One thing I may have forgotten to include in these records is that, on p. 33 of Brewer’s Cedar Creek Meeting records, in August of 1742, Mary HARRIS, WIDOW, was recorded in a list of “Sufferers”; next listed was Daniel HARRIS. So John HARRIS Sr./I was deceased by that time. Pam ============================================= Brewer, op. cit. - p. 83: 11/3/1767. John BARNETT requested that his three children Athnatious [Athenatious], Anna and Martha BARNETT be received as members. John HARRIS appointed to enquire into their lives & conversation. - p. 83: 9/5/1767. Concerning the slave trade…George FOXes advice to friends…in the printed epistle from 1758 the most likely to take affect. - p. 84: --/6/1767. Robert COBBS of Caroline Co grew lukewarm and endefrent about religion, for sook coming to our meetings, and was too much in the practise of vaine fashions of the world such as using prulal (sic) language, we therefore disown him. [Elizabeth HUTCHENS was the younger daughter of Strangeman & Elizabeth Cox HUTCHENS.] - p. 84: 8/8/1767. John HARRIS, Thomas PLEASANTS, John DAVIS, Charles MOORMAN, Samuel HARGRAVE [HARGROVE] and Ashley JOHNSON appointed to collect the names of male members of respective meetings to which they belong in order to form certificates to send to Leftenant Coln in the county where they belong accorden to act of assembly. - p. 84: 10/10/1767. Athanathous BARNETT and Jane HUTCHENS published their intentions of marriage. Thomas PLEASANTS and Moses HARRIS appointed to enquire into his clearness. [Athanatious] [Jane HUTCHENS was the younger daughter of Strangeman & Elizabeth Cox HUTCHENS.] - p. 85: 11/14/1767. John HARRIS and Daniel HARRIS to attend the marriage of Arlanashoush BARNETT [Athanatious] and Jane HUTCHENS. - p. 85: 11/14/1767. David BROOKES [BROOKS] requested a certificate to the meeting at New Garden, NC. John HARRIS and John DAVIS appointed to enquire into his life and conversation. - p. 89: 11/2/1769. Yearly meeting quries read by which it appears John CHEADLE an elder deceased…last acct…John HARRIS, Moses HARRIS and Pleasant TERRELL appointed to draw a memorial for John Cheadle deceased. [Moses & John Harris, sons of Daniel & Mary Hutchens Harris, and grandchildren of John & Mary Stanley Harris. For any Quaker to have a written memorial drawn up for him or her was extremely unusual, and reflects the esteem in which John Cheadle was held by the Society. John Cheadle was a Quaker by September of 1728, when John, with Thomas HACKETT, patented the land on which the Dolansville/Caroline Meeting House was constructed {Virginia State Library and Archives, Archives Division, Richmond, VA: Colony of Virginia Land Office Patent Book No. 13, 1725-1730, Vol. 1, p. 276.} Lettice Southerne Cheadle’s father, John, died in Middlesex Co., Viriginia in 1729 {John Southerne gave 200 acres of land to his only daughter, Lettice (a strong indication that John Southerne was trying to protect his only daughter, realizing that she would probably have a hard life as a Quaker.)} John Cheadle was recorded many times in the Cedar Creek Meeting Minutes as having been caused “Sufferings” during his & Lettice’s many years as Quakers. John was deceased in Caroline County before 13 April 1768, when Harry Robinson, John Thilman, John Harris, and John Minor were ordered by that county’s court to appraise John Cheadle’s estate {DORMAN, John Frederick: Caroline County, Virginia Order Book, 1767-1770 (Parts One & Two); Copyright, 1992, by J. John Cheadle Sr. had accumulated a number of parcels of land by the time of his death. John and Lettice Southerne Cheadle’s children were Millicent {bapt. 1714,} John {b. and bapt. 1716,} Thomas {b. & bapt. 1719; d. in early childhood,} Anne {bapt. 1720,} and Thomas {b. & bapt. 1723,} all born in Middlesex Co., Virginia {NATIONAL SOCIETY OF THE COLONIAL DAMES: The PARISH REGISTER of Christ Church Parish, Middlesex Co., Va. from 1653 to 1812; Published, 1897, by The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of Virginia; Printed by William Ellis Jones, Richmond, Virginia, USA; pp. 80, 96, 104, 106, 123.} Lettice Southerne Cheadle was only recorded one time in the Cedar Creek Meeting records; on October 9th, 1744, she was present at the marriage of Peter Hubbard of Caroline {son of John of Amelia} to Agnes Chiles {daughter of Manoah Chiles with his first wife, who appears, from a Caroline Co. chancery suit, to have been a Terrell} in 1744 {this book, p. 35.}] - p. 85: 12/12/1767. Moses HARRIS requested a certificate in relation to marriage to the meeting at the Western Branch, Isle of White Co. Strangeman HUTCHENS and John BARNETT appointed to make neceassary enquirey. [I have been told that Moses married Sophia Ely, the daughter of William Ely, at the Western Branch Meeting, but I do not have the date, witnesses if they were recorded, or the source of that information. John BARNETT appointed in his stead. - p. 87: 9/7/1768. A complaint against John BARNETT and his wife Elizabeth that she was delivered of a child in about seven months after their marriage. John HARRIS, Shadrack STANLY [Shadrach Stanley] and James CREW to make inquirey into the truth. 3/8/1768 Appears they are clear. [Elizabeth Hutchens Barnett was the daughter of Strangeman & Elizabeth Cox Hutchens.] - p. 88: 10/9/1768. Nichlous STONE request for himself and his grandson Joseph CREW a certificate to joyne themselves to the meeting in Cain Creek, Orange Co., NC. Richard LEWIS and Samual HARGROVE [HARGRAVE] appointed to make inquirey into their lives and conversation. [Still looking for the ancestor of John STONE of Pittsylvania Co., VA {ca. 1725; d. 1803; m. Jane SHELTON.} Their son of the same name moved for some years to Caswell Co., NC, and then appears to have returned to Pittsylvania?] - p. 90: 20/5/1769. James HARRIS produced a certificate from the meeting at Newgarden, North Carolina, reseved into membership.
