Anne, yDNA shows only the paternal line mtDNA shows only the maternal line Autosomal DNA can be taken by females or males and gives matches up all lines--maternal and paternal. Two examples of autosomal DNA tests are 23andMe and FamilyTreeDNA's "Family Finder". An autosomal DNA test will not directly confirm a yDNA group, but a female donor will likely have matches with Harris donors who are part of a known yDNA group.
