I'm still not sure who the family of my GILLIAM ancestor was. Elizabeth Gilliam married Alexander Kastor TONEY 9 April 1687 in new Kent Co., VA. A son of this union , Charles Toney born 1704/5 married an Elizabeth HARRIS,parentage assumed to be a Thomas HARRIS and Mary GILES. This is how my line connects TONEY,HARRIS,GILLIAM. I have three Toney names in my database. By the way, I just use my database as hints in finding my Harris and Wilkinson families. So not much original research. Sorry. I hope you find your Gilliam ancestor. 1. Thomas Wilkinson (abt 1734) of New Kent, Virginia married Sarah Gilliam (1738) also of New Kent, in about 1755. Sarah's parents were James and Catherine Gilliam and Thomas' parents were Francis Wilkinson and Mary Cary. Francis Wilkinson had another son besides Thomas--John Wilkinson (abt 1730), who married Judith Lee (abt 1730) in abt 1751 in New Kent. John and Judith had a daughter, Frances Lee Wilkinson (abt 1754) of Buckingham, Virginia, who married James Snoddy (abt 1742) from Philadelphia--married 1768 in Buckingham, Virginia. James and Frances had a son, James Lewis Snoddy (abt 1776) Buckingham who married Frances Toney (abt 1780). I don't know who her parents were. 2. Going back a bit, Jesse Woodson (abt 1715) Cumberland, Virginia married Mary Ann Toney (perhaps around 1720?). I don't know who her parents were. Jesse's parents were William Woodson and Sarah Allen; William's parents were Benjamin Louis Woodson and Sarah Porter; and Benjamin's parents were Colonel Robert Woodson and Elizabeth Ferris. 3. Also, James Barnes or Burns (abt 1705) married Mary Wilkinson (abt 1709) daughter of Richard Wilkinson and Martha Cox. Their daughter, Judith Barnes (abt 1752 Cumberland), married Edmund Toney. Right now I'm looking for Lucy (Watkin?) (abt 1760) married to William Wilkinson (abt 1760). Their son James Wilkinson (1788) Petersburg (the one now in West Virginia I think). married Temperance Knight (1796) Knoxville, Tennessee. Their daughter Katherine Christian (Kittie) Wilkinson was the mother of my great-grandfather Harris. William and his son James and their families lived in the Lincoln County, Missouri area. Clarence Cannon mentioned them in a couple of his books. So if anybody sees a Lucy b 1760 married to William Wilkinson --with a son born in Petersburg, Hardy or Hampshire, West Virginia--I'd love to hear about it. The thing is, one of their sons besides James was named "Herod". I always wondered why they would name a son "Herod". I'm thinking Harwood or Herrod. Or Sherwood. But there was a "Herod Gibbs" from Petersburg. Married to Lucy Marie Anderson. And my Herod Wilkinson's brother was named Anderson. But I'm thinking that it was the differ! ent Petersburg Virginia.
