    1. Harris's in Nelson County, Ky.
    2. Does anyone on the List know more about any of the below Harris's that are mentioned? I believe that they are part of my Harris family. Thomas Harris s/o Nathaniel Harris, and would sure appreciate any help what so ever. Thank you, Jude ----------------------------------------------------------------- Here is a list of Harrises (males, mostly, of course) who were in Nelson Co., KY in 1795. There were only a few counties in Kentucky (became a Commonwealth in 1792) in 1795, and so after that date, one has to look in adjoining counties for related Harrises. Harris surname - 1795 Kentucky - Nelson Co. only Isaac James Joseph M. John McKajah [Micajah?] Nathaniel Samuel Thomas (From TLC Genealogy, THE 1795 CENSUS OF KENTUCKY [Miami Beach: 1991], p. 77) Tax lists of Kentucky should supplement any census records you find. For one thing, tax lists are generally intact and appear every year. Check the LDS catalog to see what films may be available. You can generally determine that a male is 21 when he first appears on the tax list and is taxed for his horse. If he owns land, generally the watercourse on which the land is located is given. Then the serious researcher collects everyone on that watercourse--because they generally are related, or soon will be, through marriage! Deeds are also informative, and sometimes the indexes to these deeds (both grantor and grantee indexes) are typed and alphabetized, and easy for readers of microfilm to digest!!! Happy hunting! We Harris descendants have to help one another, particularly if they are colonial Harrises or post-Revolutionary and on the move! E.W.Wallace
