Hi, Harrises, Looking for anyone attached to this group. - Alford Lafayette HARRIS moved from North Carolina to Harlan Co., KY in 1869 or early 1870. His wife was Temperance M. "Tempy" [unknown]. They were recorded in Harlan in 1870, Alford as "Alfred" L., and as "A. L." in 1880 there. On both of those censuses, his widowed stepmother, Hannah, was living in his household [just noted as "Mother", which he surely considered her, as she must have raised him from about aged 4 or 5.] Alford Lafayette was born 1828 in Surry Co., NC. - Alford Lafayette was the son of John HARRIS, who married Hannah LOWDEN 1833 in Surry Co., NC. I have not yet discovered John's first wife's name. John Harris was a son of Silas & Eada Franklin Harris, and a grandson of William & Sarah [Unknown] Harris of Culpeper Co., VA, and of Surry, Ashe, and Wilkes Cos., NC. William HARRIS was b. ca. 1752 in Virginia, and served in the Revolutionary War in Culpeper Co. before moving to North Carolina. John's brothers and sisters were Joel, William Lewis, Sarah, [unknown son], Ambrose, James, [unk. daughter], Elizabeth, Squire Henderson, Edith "Eady", and Mary C. Harris. - A. L. HARRIS was recorded in 1850 in Surry Co., NC as Lafayette Harris. He was living in his own household, which was between that of his father and grandfather. He had a sister [probably full sister], Sally [surely Sarah], b. ca. 1835, and a half-brother, Columbus, b. ca. 1841. In 1860, he was recorded in Dobson, Surry Co., NC, as "A. L." Harris. - The children of A. L. & Temperance M. [Unknown] Harris, all born in Surry, North Carolina, were: Larthena? Harris, b. 1848 Thomas G. Harris, b. 1850 John K. Harris, b. 1852 Narcissus Salina, b. 1854 Sophia, b. 1855 Mary Frances, b. 1857 William L., b. 1859 Alford L. [Lafayette?], b. 1860 James M., b. 1862 or 1863 Columbus A., b. 1865 Rossie [Rausy], b. 1867 or 1868 - A document in Harlan Co., KY Settlement Book 2 [date unknown as of yet] purportedly lists the heirs of Sophia [Harris] BAKER, who apparently died childless, and the estate was divided between her siblings and their heirs. [If anyone can do a lookup on this document, reported on in a Harlan Footprints genealogical journal as recorded on p. 14 of Settlement Book 2, I would greatly appreciate it.] - The heirs of Sophia Harris BAKER were: J. M. HARRIS, A. L. HARRIS, G. A. [s/b C. A.] HARRIS, W. L. HARRIS, J. K. HARRIS and T. G. HARRIS. Rossie [Harris] MOBERLY's heirs were Grover MOBERLY, Maud BEGLEY and Bessie WOLFE. Narcissus [Harris] JONES' heirs were Will JONES, Sophia HUDSON, and the children of Narcissus' other daughter [who must have also been deceased], Nannie JONES BRASSFIELD PARKS, whose children were Herbert BRASSFIELD, Stella PARKS, Garrard [or Gerard] PARKS, and Sophia PARKS. - [Note that there is no mention of any heirs of Sophia's sisters, Larthena or Mary Frances {who may have been called by the nickname "Nannie"?}, so they must have died before Sophia, and also childless.] - A note in this Harlan Footprints also states that Calvin and Sophia HUDSON were in Whitley in 1900 with a Sophia HARRIS, cousin. - Surely this number of sons and daughters that survived to adulthood must have many descendants. - Any connections out there???
