    1. Religious Petitions for Albemarle Co. and Other Items of Interest
    2. This is the website of American Memories sponsored by the Library of Congress http://lcweb2.loc.gov/ammem/mdbquery.html (Or where you can seek refuge when you don't want to do those other tasks, or when you cannot sleep) Of interest to Albemarle Co. researchers (of early dates) are the Religious Petitions. Go down the list to the R's and check. Then you want to do a geographic search which will list the counties where these petitions originated, with the dates of the petitions. I have seen in one of the Albemarle petitions the signature of only one Harris male - John Harris - but perhaps I was skimming too fast. I did see signatures of allied Albemarle Co. families--Jouett, Shelton and Dalton. Oh, yes, and lots of McCord males. There may be some items of interest in the Papers of the Continental Congress also. Common folk who presented petitions to the Continental Congress MAY be indexed, as they are in John P. Butler's vast published index (publ. 1978) to the papers of the Continental Congress. And, of course, if your ancestor was a representative to that Congress, you certainly want to search for his name. Tell your friends who are interested in family history and also American history. Should you tell your kids? Only if you have several computers in the home--with separate internet access. Send the kids to the library which has computers! E.W.Wallace
