Bryan and Robert Rose Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc. Baltimore, copyright 1977 RODGERS --- Charles Rodgers and his wife, Elizabeth Harris, of Halifax county, Virginia, had one son, Charles B., who was a Lieutenant in the War of 1812. he settled in Callaway County, Missouri, in 1829, and at the commencement of the war with Mexico he raised a company in Callaway and Audrain counties, and served as Captain of his company during the war. His wife was Aletha Overfelt, of Bedofrd County, Virginia, and their children were --- Richmond H., Charles A., Andrew J., James C., John L., Elizabeth J., Sarah H., Virginia C., Thomas R., Isaac C., William G., and Aletha J. Charles A. was a private in his father's company during the Mexican War. Can anyone tell me what Harris line(s) were in Halifax County, Virginia? Is anyone familiar with Elizabeth (Harris) Rodgers? Any insight is appreciated. Please respond through HH or H-VA so that others may be helped. Ira L. Harris III Evansville, Indiana ______________________________ Partial answer: These Harrises appear in Halifax Order Book 2, Part I (begins with court Mar 21 1755 snd ends with Mar 17, 1758 court.) Charles, James, Mr., Samuel, Thomas Samuel was one of the justices. But he was also a plaintiff in one case!!! These Rogers families appear: Abraham and John (From index of TLC Genealogy, Halifax County Virginia Court Orders 1755-1758 [Plea Book No. 2, Part 1] [Miami each, FL; TLC Genealogy, 1992) Unfortunately for so many genealogists, it seems TLC Genealogy has gone out of business. I love their books. They published other books of deeds of Halifax Co. The Magazine of Virginia Genealogy [I did not note the Volume nor the year] also published some Halifax Co. pleas. I hope this helps a bit! Nothing definitive, I must admit. A more useful people-finder for a period closer to the War of 1812 would the the 1787 Census of Virginia compiled a number of years ago by Netti Schreiner-Yanits and Florine S. Love. (Tax lists for various Virginia Cos, plus Kentucky which was part of VA in 1787) For a time, one could buy booklets for each county instead of purchasing the three BIG volumes. E.W.Wallace
