    3. Hello, I am hoping that someone on the list may be able to help me with my quandary here! According to "They Went Thataway" by Charles Hughes Hamlin, James Harris of Rockingham Co, NC deeded 2 tracts of land on Widgeon Creek in Patrick County, VA to Reuben Harris of Patrick Co, dated November 1803 (Patrick County Deed Book 2, p. 271). On March 13, 1829, James Harris and James Gibson provided surety for the marriage of my ancestors John Bryant and Nancy Massey. Finally, on Sept. 30, 1831, James and Nancy Harris deeded 35 acres in Patrick Co to John Briant/Bryant (immediate neighbors: Joseph Vaughan, William Via and David Crews); this land ended up in the hands of Isham Craddock as of July 1840 (Patrick Co Deed Book 8, p. 12 -- I have a copy of this deed and will transcribe it for the list shortly). I suspect that this James Harris (I believe his wife was Nancy Craddock?) is the same man who provided bond for the marriage of John Bryant and Nancy Massey, but I am wondering if he also connects to the gentleman of the same name on the 1803 deed mentioned above? The fact that James Harris helped pay for the Bryant-Massey marriage indicates to me some sort of familial relationship (either by blood or through marriage) to the Bryants or the Masseys, and I am wondering if anyone on the list has any sort of information about a possible Harris-Bryant or Harris-Massey connection, as well as whether or not the earlier James Harris and the later James Harris were kin or even the same person? Thanks very much for your time and for any help that anyone may possibly be able to give me here! Kind regards, Rebecca Olenchak jjbb343@earthlink.net Why Wait? Move to EarthLink.
