    1. [HARRIS-HUNTERS] reply to sarah and others re dna, etc
    2. belva cauthen
    3. hi sarah   of course, we have corresponded in the past and based on your own interest in william harris/ judith hudson, i had hoped that we would be a harris dna match.  we are not.   in regard to the dna, obviously, we cannot go around digging people up and in most instances we would not even know where to find them.   what a person is matching with re their dna is with someone in the dna group, who has a good and solid paper trail back to ones original and/ or earliest ancestor.   in our harris dna group 8/ captain thomas harris line and family, this would be the line of our david harris/ jane landy richardson, who is stated, per a louisa co, va deed, to have been the son of our william harris/ mary giles, who obtained these 400 acres on cubb creek in 1725 in hanover co, va.   it is, again, our william harris/ mary giles and his brother edward harris, who are also stated to have been the sons of our major william harris, 2nd wife, alice, who remarried george alvis, and our major william harris was the son of our captain thomas harris 1611 of jamestown.   except for the fact that your ancestor was named "mumford" harris and there was a william mumford, who was paid for a debt by the estate of judith hudson harris in 1798 in mecklenburg co, va, do you have any evidence at all that your mumford harris and/ or your claiborne harris were related to william harris/ judith hudson or that any of their harris family had moved to anson co, nc?   names can indicate kinship but, again, they also are not proof of kinship.     it has to be remembered that "sherwood";  "claiborne" and, perhaps even "munford/ mumford" were popular men in their day and people were named for them either because they or the names were popular at that time and do not mean, again, that all of these sherwoods; claibornes, etc, were related.   again, it is my william harris, sr/ frances goode and my goode family, who are shown to have been significantly involved with william harris/ judith hudson and these same individuals and families early there in lunenburg/ mecklenburg cos, va.   again, there is this 1750 dodson survey for this land on wynn creek for william harris, sr and william harris, jr, which confirms that my william harris, sr/ frances goode was the son, william, of my william harris/ judith hudson.   i am not, of course, focusing on harris dna group 4 but, perhaps, and hopefully, someone who is part of harris dna group 4 could help you with info re your claiborne harris and your mumford harris and/ or give you some ideas of relatedness and connections.   i hope one of these days we are going to get this all straight re our various harris lines and families per our harris dna and the records!     belva harris cauthen harris dna group 8------26910
