Dear Researchers, I sent a message a day or so ago concerning the abstracted will of one James Harris of Albemarle Co. VA dated 25 Feb 1792. I have a reply from a non-subscriber concerning the connection with the Dabney family. (See the rootsweb archives of 12/9/08 for Louisa Co., Albemarle Co., MadKY, and Harris-Hunters for my message.) If you have any inkling that any of your ancestors may have been of pre-Revolutionary [or post-Revolutionary, for that matter] Louisa and Albemarle Cos., VA, you may want to stash these notes away for future reference. Many of these families were intermarried--for generations--and in different parts of the country!!! Here is what my correspondent wrote--which contradicts my statement about the granddaughter of James Harris (wife Mary Harris, daughter of Major Robert Harris, surveyor of Louisa Co.). I am not on your mail list, but perhaps you would forward this. The granddaughter of James Harris, Lucy Dabney, was the daughter of Anna Haden by her first husband, William Dabney. Anna married Anthony Haden, 21 Dec 1787. She was his third wife. Two of Anna & Anthony's sons were named Nathan & Joel for two of her brothers. Their remaining son was named William Dabney Haden. Their son was Nathan Haden Smithson B 7 Jun 1834 and he was my great grandfather. If you are interested in the Smithsons there is a lot of info on the web. Pauline Witten Jefferson When Lucy Dabney married in Campbell Co VA, and the Haden book says she married 3 Apr 1808 rather than 1801 and I've not checked to see which is correct, Anthony Haden wrote a note to the clerk that Lucy was of age.
