    1. Re: [HARRIS-HUNTERS] Follow-up on Harris and Dabney of Louisa & Albemarle Cos...
    2. I have in my files the following: Anna Harris, daughter of James and Mary Harris Harris was married to Wm Dabney and 2nd to Anthony Hayden. I can only figure that the Lucy Dabney mention here was the daughter of Anna Harris Dabney Hayden (Haden) I have no dates or anything else in my files. In my files I have also: The children of James Harris of Albermarle, VA: Anna Haden see above Lucy Dabney see above Thomas Harris nfi Joel Harris b 25 April 1761 d 31 March 1826 m Ann Waller Mourning married Cornelius Maupin Sarah m James Harrison James Harris m Mary McColloch Suzanna m Nicholas Burnley Nathan b 1771 d 1852 m Ann Alan Anderson I hope this helps but I have no further information Peggy in CA, Harris descendant from Capt William Harris/Mary Hudson In a message dated 12/10/2008 8:38:49 P.M. Pacific Standard Time, [email protected] writes: Dear Researchers, I sent a message a day or so ago concerning the abstracted will of one James Harris of Albemarle Co. VA dated 25 Feb 1792. I have a reply from a non-subscriber concerning the connection with the Dabney family. (See the rootsweb archives of 12/9/08 for Louisa Co., Albemarle Co., MadKY, and Harris-Hunters for my message.) If you have any inkling that any of your ancestors may have been of pre-Revolutionary [or post-Revolutionary, for that matter] Louisa and Albemarle Cos., VA, you may want to stash these notes away for future reference. Many of these families were intermarried--for generations--and in different parts of the country!!! Here is what my correspondent wrote--which contradicts my statement about the granddaughter of James Harris (wife Mary Harris, daughter of Major Robert Harris, surveyor of Louisa Co.). I am not on your mail list, but perhaps you would forward this. The granddaughter of James Harris, Lucy Dabney, was the daughter of Anna Haden by her first husband, William Dabney. Anna married Anthony Haden, 21 Dec 1787. She was his third wife. Two of Anna & Anthony's sons were named Nathan & Joel for two of her brothers. Their remaining son was named William Dabney Haden. Here's an old post from a newslist: From: [email protected] Date: Wed, 12 Dec 2001 16:57:28 EST Subject: Lucy Harris Dabney Lucy was B 5 Sep 1779 in VA, M 3 Apr 1801 in Campbell Co VA to John Morris Smithson. Their son was William Dabney Smithson B 14 Feb or Mar 1802 in Campbell Co VA and D 22 Mar 1874 in Winchester, Scott Co IL. Their son was Nathan Haden Smithson B 7 Jun 1834 and he was my great grandfather. If you are interested in the Smithsons there is a lot of info on the web. Pauline Witten Jefferson When Lucy Dabney married in Campbell Co VA, and the Haden book says she married 3 Apr 1808 rather than 1801 and I've not checked to see which is correct, Anthony Haden wrote a note to the clerk that Lucy was of age. John Haden of Virginia, His Parents, and Some of His Descendants, by Dorothy K. Haden, Adams Press, Chicago, 1968 Regards, Kay Haden My additional comment: If any of you subscribe to a genealogical website which involves the Dabneys, will you consider sharing this information [copying and pasting in toto] with that website. As one of the compilers of the online genealogical database called HeritageQuest said in a recent lecture: You must SHARE if you are going to really learn about your family. Just don't give too much personal information about yourself or your living family--at least in the beginning. I am amazed that genealogists still do this!!!
