ira and others you have asked in the past if there were a william harris/ mary giles? i have posted in the past deeds showing that both our major william harris' sons, our william harris b ca 1672, wife, mary, and his brother edward harris b ca 1674, also, wife, mary, by our major william harris' 2nd wife alice, who remarried george alvis, were associated with george alvis and their mother, alice, ca 1794 in new kent co, va. again, i cannot say that our william harris' wife, mary, was a giles but i have continued to call her that just to identify who i am talking about as there are so many william harrises. it would not seem to me that our william harris' wife, mary, was mary willis as some have cited the will of this edward willis of hanover co, va as proof of this. it was an edward harris associated with the 1734 hanover co, va will of this edward willis------not a william harris. where does the info come that there was a thomas harris/ mary giles or that he was killed by the indians? is it thought that this was the thomas harris/ mary giles who, like william harris, also obtained this patent for land also in 1725 also on cubb creek? william harris of hanover patents 400 acres in hanover on upper side of cubb creek on lines of land of of captain dabney, march 24, 1725. thomas harris of hanover patents 400 acres on cubb creek beginning at william harris' line and going to dabney's line, march 24, 1725. in the past, there has been a consensus that this was our captain thomas harris' harris line and family on cubb creek i.e. our william harris/ mary giles, who obtained this patent for this land in 1725 on cubb creek. if so, and this does seem to be confirmed because david harris/ jane landy richardson, named in a louisa co, va deed as the son of the william harris, who had obtained this patent land in 1725 on cubb creek, is a match with our harris dna group 8/ captain thomas harris line and family, then, i am having difficulty thinking or seeing how any of this harris family on cubb creek would have been the harris family of your captain william harris/ temperance overton? again, per these hanover co, va patents, the patents for your captain william harris/ temperance overton and, again, i do not know that william harris, gent, and captain william harris were the same, and his son, william harris, jr, were not on cubb creek. this has, again, been said in the past to have been a patent for your captain william harris/ temperance overton: captain william harris of hanover co, va pays 30 shillings for 266 acres on the south side of the little river at the mouth of bryars branch running to his own land, march 24, 1725. again, this has also said to have been you captain william harris/ temperance overton's son, william harris, jr, who obtained this patent: william harris, junr, of hanover co, va patents 1500 acres in same bounded by land of mrs arnold, george woodroof, the corner being on overton fork of elk creek, march 24, 1725. also, james overton of hanover co, va patents 400 acres in same on the south fork of elk creek on john raglin's line, 1723. also, besides having difficulty in seeing that that this would have been your captain william harris/ temperance overton' harris family also on cubb creek, i am also having difficulty in seeing or thinking that our captain thomas harris' harris line and family would have sold this land on cubb creek to your captain william harris/ temperance overton harris' line and family? again, it would seem logical or make more sense that they would have sold this cubb creek land to their brothers or to the sons of their uncle edward harris than the harris family of your captain william harris/ temperance overton, who, per these patents did not live in this same cubb creek area. again, obviously, one of the problems we have is that most of the hanover/ new kent co, va records have been destroyed and what records we do have have been subject to someone's interpretation both in the past and present. it would seem to me that in light of our harris dna project, which, for now, we are also in the early stages of and where we are not sure that paper trails are always accurate, that we need to look at over and over what has been written in the past and continues to be said " as if " as to whether it has been interpreted accurately. on the other hand, i am also not suggesting that we disregard totally what someone has said in the past as being inaccurate either but rather that this, again, is something it seems to me that we need to continue to look at and to investigate. the issue, then, or now is, again, whether any and/ or what part of this info, per the records we do have re our harris families there in hanover co, va, has been interpreted accurately. so, again, where does the info come from that there was a thomas harris/ mary giles and, again, is it thought that he was this thomas harris, who also obtained this patent for land in 1725 on cubb creek, like our william harris/ mary giles? in fact, speaking of names, what sense does it make that your william harris/ temperance overton, who is now said to have been the son of this robert harris of the ware or forks of new kent co, va, would have named a son thomas harris? so, it does make more sense that this thomas harris, who also had land there on cubb creek, like our william harris/ mary giles,in 1725 would have been part of our captain thomas harris' harris line and family------possibly the son of our william harris/ mary giles or his brother, edward harris?
