The abstracted 1764 will of John McCord, Sr. of Albemarle Co. reads as follows. Source is given. MCCORD, JOHN, SR. 2 March 1764. 8 March 1764. Of Moremans River. Wife to have maintenance from plantation. sons: John, Benjamin, William McCord. Son John to pay Chrsitopher Harris two pounds curr. Exrs: sons John and Benjamin Wit: Gabriel Maupin (?) and James Little Source: J. Estelle Stewart King, Abstracts of Wills, Inventories, and Administration Accounts of Albemarle County, Virginia, 1748-1800 (Will Books A, B, 3 and 4) [Beverly Hills, CA: Published by author, 1940], p. 14) This booklet has been filmed by the Family History Library. The film number is 1421873, Item 13. However a note under the subtitle, submitted by the Genealogical Society of Utah, is that there are numerous discrepancies in this record. Question: Is anyone following this family, either in Albemarle Co. or in Madison Co., KY? Christopher Harris and his second wife Agnes McCord are my ancestors. They migrated to Madison Co., KY. Some McCord males are found in the early records of the Kentucky county. I am not sure that Agnes is of this family as I have located this abstracted deed. However, the name William McCord appears in both abstracts--the will above and the deed below. Albemarle Co. "DB 2, Page 294: 14 Aug 1760 Wm. McCord, Par. of St. Ann, Albemarle Co., to sister, Agnes McCord - love and 5 sh. 174 acres both sides Moorman River near Blue Ledge. Pat to Jas. McCord, dec'd."/s/ William McCord. [No. wit.] (Rev. Bailey Fulton Davis, THE DEEDS OF AMHERST COUNTY, VIRGINIA, 1761-1807 and ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VIRGINIA, 1748-1763 [Amherst, VA, 1970] LAFHC 975.5482 P2a) I have a few notes I am willing to share, but I have not followed this family very carefully. Apparently the McCords lived in Augusta Co. prior to removing to Albemarle Co. as Agnes and Christopher Harris sold property there, according to the abstracts of Lyman Copeland's The Chronicles of the Scotch Irish Settlements in Virginia. This three-volume work is online, URL given below.. Each volume is indexed separately. You may find some of your Albemarle people in these abstracts.
