    1. [HARRIS-HUNTERS] Some Harris and Dent Connections, Madison Co., KY
    2. Wanda Flesher wrote, in part, I'm especially interested in Henry Harris, born 1742, Orange Co, VA and he had moved to Madison Co KY by 1796. He was in Orange Co VA when he first signed up for duty in the Rev War. There are some indications he may have been in Albemarle Co VA and in Maryland before going to Madison Co KY. Henry's family and the Samuel Dent family went to Madison Co about the same time. One of Henry Harris's daus was married to one of Samuel Dent's son's. I believe there is very strong connection to the other Madison Co. Harrises. Does any one have that dab of information that I need to make the connection? My response: No doubt you have examined some of the marriage records of Madison Co., KY compiled by Bill and Kathy Vockery. If not, here is some material, but it is not comprehensive!!! These are the headings: Groom, Bride, bond date, bondsman, consent, return [if any] Dent, Bailey - Harris, Becky -3 Apr 1815 - Harris, John - Harris, John FB [fa. of bride] 13 April 1815 Park-Parke, James - Dent, Olly - 24 Jan 1817 - Parks, Jesse - Dent, Samuel - FB - 26 Jan 1817 Park, Catherine - MG (apparently both bride and groom had to have consent of parents) Parks, Jesse - Dent, Anne - 8 Aug 1809 Dent, Samuel & Parks Ebenezer [bondsmen both] 10 Aug 1809 Harris, Henry - Jane Manion 10 Aug 1801- Manion, Ambrose - Manion, James - FB [consent] [no return listed] (If this latter couple seem to be in your family, then let me know, as there other Harris and Manion marriages.) Source: Bill & Kathy Vockery, Madison County Kentucky Marriage Records Vol. 1 1786-1822 [Richmond, KY: published by authors, 1993) No other Dent persons in Vol. 1 of Marriages by Vockery & Vockery I looked at a transcript of some early Tax lists for Madison Co., and Henry Harris [a name not known in the family Christopher Harris of Madison Co., KY, formerly of Albemarle Co., VA nor his father Robert of Louisa Co., VA] and the earliest date Henry Harris appears in Madison Co., tax lists is 1799. Christopher Harris appears in two Virginia personal property tax lists of 1787--in Madison co., KY as well as Albemarle Co., VA. Look in the Family History Library catalog on _www.familysearch.org_ (http://www.familysearch.org) for the author Netti Schreiner-Yantis, et al for the Title *The 1787 Census of Virginia*. That way, you can take this print out of title and author to your library and ask whether you can interlibrary loan this three-volume set of books of personal property tax lists for Virginia, which included Kentucky and what is now West Virginia. The 3rd volume is the index to the first two volumes. This work is an excellent people-finder for late Virginians [after the Revolution] and for early Kentuckians, when Kentucky was still a part of Virginia!!! If your library is large, it may be shelved with the census indexes, as it is in my local Family History Center. Otherwise, you may have to hunt for it. It is about 20-30 years old but invaluable. Xerox all the Harris listings in the index. Then arrange the pages numberically, from the index. Then search the pages--or photocopy them--and take them home!!! E.W.Wallace Check out these URLs for county formation in Virginia. See how big Orange Co. was during years 1775-1783. Check Augusta Co. and Louisa Co. Your man MAY have been in any of those counties.!!! Tell your friends who research Virginia about these URLS. They may save a LOT of headaches, because we may need to search a LOT of counties. _http://www.myvirginiagenealogy.com/index.htm_ (http://www.myvirginiagenealogy.com/index.htm) http://www.myvirginiagenealogy.com/va_maps/va_cf.htm **************It's only a deal if it's where you want to go.
