Woodrow Harris, For the past 15 years or so, most of the people you mention in your message have appeared in the printed newsletter of Harris Hunters or on this Harris Hunters forum. I must tell you however, that there has been much controversy in the past concerning the early part of the Harris lineage in your descendants list. There are many different opinions regarding the descendants of Sergeant John Harris, although there seems to be no question as to the ancestors of Sergeant John Harris, based on the excellent research of the late Noel Robertson and her conclusions are believed to be accurate by most true Harris researchers. It is true that Sergeant John Harris had a son Thomas, the oldest child, some say born 1614 or 1616, but there is overwhelming evidence that Thomas Harris' only sons were John and Thomas and he had 5 daughters, but no son named Edward. John, the son of Thomas had 9 daughters, but no sons. Thomas, the son of Thomas had 6 sons, as Edward, Thomas, Benjamin, Stephen, John and Robert, and a daughter Mary. It has been reported in some old publications that Thomas Harris, 1616-1672 was the father of Thomas Harris, ca.1630-1688, but based on wills and land records of early Virginia, this claim has proven to be untrue. The Thomas Harris, died 1688 did have a son Edward and there was an Edward Jr., son of Edward. There are other Harris forums, such as "Harris"; "Harris DNA"; "Harris-GenForum" and "Harris-Rootsweb", and I think there is a "Harris-Colonial Virginia". None of these are as active as Harris-Hunters, but do discuss many different branches of Harris. Hope this helps. Sincerely, James E. Hargraves Harris DNA Group 30. Hi James, Thank you for the prompt assistance you gave me regarding my Harris ancestors. And thanks to several others who replied to my posting to the newletter. I have much to follow-up now. It is so easy to get in a rut in one's approach to researching family history. I can't tell you how bad my head hurts at times while trying to sort out the Harrises in Virginia. Ooooooooooh my goodness! I honestly believe it is all a conspiracy, these Harrises didn't want to be found! LOL! :) My few years spent in researching has left me still feeling like a novice (which I am). I wish I could learn it all faster! My thoughts go back to all the people I could have contacted for help and information, but now they are gone. It is a lesson learned the hard way! However, it is very encouraging to know that there are many people in all parts of our country that are so willing to be of assistance. Thank you all for your patient help!Woodrow Harris [email protected] From: [email protected]: Mon, 17 Nov 2008 18:50:33 -0500Subject: Re: [HARRIS-HUNTERS] Harris LineageTo: [email protected]; [email protected] Woodrow Harris, For the past 15 years or so, most of the people you mention in your message have appeared in the printed newsletter of Harris Hunters or on this Harris Hunters forum.
