I would like to ask Group 6 to look at this information and see if they have any connections. (note from Peggy Hill from the William Harris/Mary Hudson family) From: [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) <_mailto:[email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) > Subject: Re: [VALOUISA-L] William Sharpe Date: Tue, 18 Apr 2000 19:16:35 EDT Hello, >From the book, "The Baker Family of England and of Central VA and their many related families and kin" , compiled by William Thomson BAKER, Sr, (native of Louisa County, VA), 1974 is the following: Part 1, page 38: ........... William BAKER b @1710 had by his wife Susanna, a daughter Anne Baker, b Nov 1737 m 1761 William Pettit, Jr. They were the parents of.............. Samuel Baker Pettit, who in 1789 married Temperence Harris SHARP, daughter of William Sharp by his wife, Temperence Baker, daughter of Martin Baker of Hanover and sister of William BAKER of Cub Creek, Louisa County, VA >From Part 1, pg 40: "Walter Garland DUKE in his comprehensive genealogy ..........with some account of several hundred central VIrginia families says that Martin BAKER III of Hanover County had eight children and that he was born in Hanover about 1715-1720, died in 1786-1788, that he was very wealthy, executor's bond when his estate was settled being fixed at $100,000. Seven of his children are listed as follows, but not in order of their birth:----- 1. Martin BAKER married Elizabeth SWIFT 2. William BAKER married Mary WALTON 3. John BAKER married Nancy HARRIS 4. Samuel BAKER married Temperence HARRIS 5. Mary BAKER married John WALTON, Jr. 6. Temperence BAKER married William SHARP 7. Jemima Keziah BAKER married Thomas LANE The descendency of Temperence BAKER and William SHARP were not chronicled in the book. The BAKER family of Louisa County was a pretty tightly knit group. I go back on the HARRIS line that figures prominently with the BAKER surname. I daughter out with the marriage of Susan HARRIS, daughter of William HARRIS and Elizabeth BURNETT to John GUNTER. I hope this has helped. This was taken from a book, and thus further documentation never hurts for sure. The book is a good guide. :)) It is still available to my knoweldge. Anyone interested please email. Connecting families with the surname BAKER in this book are: THOMSON. GOODWIN, LIPSCOMB, ELLIS, BOXLEY, MANSFIELD (6 chapters), TANDY, MASSIE, HARRIS, GRAVES, BURRUS, WOOLFOLK, FARRAR, CHILES, DANIEL, QUISENBERRY and the SWIFT-DUKE families. Peggy in CA Now, the thought is that William Harris married Henrietta Baker, daughter of Martin Baker who we see in those 1734 deeds with William, Richard, James, Robert and Robert, Jr. Can we separate the William Harris/Henrietta Baker from the William Harris supposed Elizabeth/Henreitta Burnette? If the William Harris/Mary Hudson family is showing Group 8 ties, we need to look at the family connections. (Is that Pettit or Pettus?) Pat **************One site has it all.
