    1. [HARRIS-HUNTERS] Agnes McCord - Second Wife [later Widow] of Christopher Harris of Madison Co. KY
    2. While *thumbing through* the online books on HeritageQuest [available at some public libraries] concerning the broad subject *Virginia*, I found an intriguing book--to me--about a lot of Scots-Irish people, originally from Pennsylvania, who were being baptized in the Church of England in Augusta Co., VA. If you suspect one of your Scots-Irish ancestors may have been among this group--including some *Papist* or *Roman* Irish [not generally Scots-Irish, who were Protestant], I suggest you take a look. I have looked about half-way through. I am hoping to find some other folks, who may be on their way to other climes!!! On the second page of cited book, I have located a *usual suspect* -- Agnes McCord, who, I am almost certain, is my ancestor. I know from Lyman Chalkley's volumes of some of the Scotch-Irish Settlements of Virginia that she, Agnes McCord, and her husband Christopher Harris sold some property in Augusta Co. This brief record [the Reverend was keeping score on how many baptisms he performed] indicates Agnes' father was named John McCord. Some McCord *name collectors* want to call him Johannes McCord, but perhaps this man was of an older generation. >From my notes. Generally, in this list the name of the father comes first. Some children born out of wedlock have sponsors, with some notes about the behavior of the mother--and sometimes the putative father.: >From HeritageQuest at LAPL July 29, 2008: Book cataloged under Virginia: List of Baptisms by Reverend John Craig, Augusta County, Virginia 1740-1749 [Staunton, VA: L.B. Hatke 1930], p. 2: March 1741 4 [date] March] John McCord A child Baptized named Agnes > at /William Wallis's So Side Ridge For those of you familiar with Jacob Stoever, who received large grants of land from Virginia, there is this notation on March 14 Jacob Stover - and adult person Baptized Oh,yes. A little more info regarding Agnes McCord: A 1766 patent to Mosias Jones refer to the lines of John McCord, Sr. and Agness McCord, thus: Patent Book No. 36: Mosias Jones, 90 acs. Albemarle Co. on both sides of Moreman's Riv., adj John McCord & Agness McCord; 10 Jul 1766, p. 940. 10 shill. (Dennis Ray Hudgins, ed., CAVALIERS AND PIONEERS, Vol. VII [Richmond: Virginia Genealogical Society, 1999], p. 95) Indexes of Albemarle Co., VA deeds examined in 1997 indicate that by 1771/1772, Agnes had married Christopher Harris, as their names appear in Albemarle Co. Deed Bk 5 (Jan Ct 1771-Aug Ct 1772). More study is needed. Recorded in Augusta Co., VA, Deed Bk 22-397: 17 Nov 1778 Christopher Harris and Agnes of Albemarle to John Collins. Delivered: Thos. Turk, Aug 1779. Submitted by E.W.Wallace **************Get fantasy football with free live scoring. Sign up for FanHouse Fantasy Football today.
