To Norma and the other Harris researchers: The document below (provided here by Norma) has been around for a number of years and it had been a query as to who these John Harris men were. Two years ago a lovely lady named Ann Stinson, (deceased 2007) part of our Harris research group, suggested we start looking at family connections and marriages more closely. The document below was one of the first we studied. This document proves the father of John Harris, Sen'r d. 1776 was John Harris. The reason we know this is our family is because Charles Willet and Francis Burck(actually Burch) were related to John Harris, Sen'r d. 1776 by marriages. Various other documents are available to support this. Please note, the father John Harris in this document IS NOT John Harris who was b. 1684 and d. 1740. The John Harris b. 1684 d. 1740 had two wives and lived in a different county. There was another John Harris who lived in the area where John Harris, Sen'r d. 1776 and his family lived which was around the church at Broad Creek. This older John Harris is referred to in 1730 vestry minutes of the church when they were making new precints. The documents are written in past tense "where old John Harris lived," indicating he was deceased (or moved) my 1730, We believe we may know who this John Harris was but can't prove it yet. I am looking for Transport records for this period as well as Indenture records to prove my theory. If anyone knows where I can get these records it would be greatly appreciated.
