bill brandon, who i have corresponded with in the past and who descends from john cawthon/ agnes harris in his posts on the cawthon forum talks about his john cawthon/ agnes harris and, of course, that his agnes harris cawthon, is definitely shown/ indicated to have been the daughter of this william harris/ mary of hanover/ louisa/ goochland cos, va. then, per a subsequent posts, bill brandon, and in his corresponding with ricky hudson, also has that this was his john cawthon/ agnes harris' daughter mary cawthon, who married david alvis, jr there in goochland co, va. i did not know this and is certainly an interesting connection. the items i will cite here are from the cawthon forum posts # 242; # 390; and # 486: John Cawthon that you inquire of was most likely born in Hanover Co.Va. as his name first appears in Goochland Co. Va. records in 1749 on the tithable list along with William Harris which was most likely his father-in-law. Needing to be 21 in order to own land, this suggest that his birthyear was about 1725/1730. William Harris took out a patent in Hanover Co. Va. next to George Alvis on Cawthon Branch in 1714. (i am going to make a comment here------which, again, points out the problems we have had and are still having with all of this re our william harrises and that is mistakening one william harris to later be the SAME william harris. in 1714, the william harris, who obtained a patent near our george alvis, his stepfather, would have been our william harris/ mary giles. the william harris, who in 1731, etc, and who continued to be processioned with his cawthon family was their william harris/ mary of hanover/ louisa/ goochland cos, va and whose daughter, agnes harris married their john cawthon-------NOT our william harris/ mary giles. ) In 1731 records show that Christopher Cawthon and William Harris in the same precinct. in 1735 William Harris, William Cawthon and Christopher Cawthon were in the same precinct. This could be in part of Hanover Co.that was later to become Goochland Co. Va. Which of these Cawthons is the father of John is open for speculation. John and William were in Granville Co. N.C. before 1790, these could be father and son. If John indeed named his first son William this might suggest that the first mentioned William above could have been the father of John. It is likely that John and Agnes both died in Granville Co. N. C. John Cawthon married Agnes Harris prior to 1752.Their Children mentioned in the Douglas Register are Jesse, 1756, Sukie 1761, Annie 1761, Nathan 1769. A daughter Mary and William were born before Rev. Douglas started keeping records. These accounts are subject to further research and full documentation cannot always be provided. Son Nathan married Ava Bradford in Granville Co.in 1791 and moved later to Montgomery Co.NC these are my ancestors. Brother William left a will in Granville Co. N.C. in 1810. ( i also want it to be noted that from what bill brandon says here that his john cawthon, who married his agnes harris, was born ca 1725 and, therefore, would have been about the same age as my william harris, sr/ frances goode, who was also born ca 1725/ 1726, son of my william harris/ judith hudson. again, this would also make his william harris/ mary, parents of his agnes harris cawthon; sherwood harris/ hannah page; and of this gilliam harris/ susannah a contemporary and about the same age also of my william harris/ judith hudson. again, info show that my william harris, sr/ judith hudson and this other william harris/ mary were both probably born ca 1700. again, as i continue to reiterate, they were definitely not the same william harris. they had different wives; different children; and they lived at the very same time in different areas. again, both my william harris/ judith hudson and this other william harris/ mary could not possibly have been the william harris, son of our william harris/ mary giles. so, again, in order for this william harris/ mary of louisa/ goochland co, va to have also descended from our captain thomas harris' harris line and family and the only way that this could work out is that, again, that this william harris/ mary would have to have been the son of our william harris/ mary giles' brother, edward harris. this, again, is the only way that this can possibly work out. again, these connections that our william harris/ mary giles' brother, edward harris had with george alvis and his son, david alvis, and the cawthons, etc, there in hanover co, and and the fact that this was john cawthon/ agnes harris' daughter mary cawthon who married david alvis, jr in goochland co, va would certainly strongly suggest and indicate this and that this william harris/ mary may have been, again, the son of edward harris, brother of our william harris/ mary giles.) to continue with bill brandon's posts or, actually, a post re ricky hudson re bill's john and agnes harris cauthen, asking if the mary cauthon, who married david alvis, jr, there in goochland co, va was the daughter of his john cawthon/ agnes harris and bill brandon replied that it was. This is in response to a message over three years old, but for what its worth here goes. I have a Mary Cauthon married to David Alvis Jr (son of David Alvis Sr and grandson of George Alvis) on August 20 1768 in St James, Northam Parish, Goochland County, Virginia according to the Douglas Register. Could this be the Mary Cawthon listed in your message, daughter of John and Agnes Harris Cawthon? Ricky Hudson to be continued: belva harris cauthen harris dna group 8---------26910
