    1. [HARRIS-HUNTERS] William Harris/William Morris errors in transcriptions
    2. It seems that the transcriptions sometimes have William Morris where William Harris should logically be. Can we rule out William Morris living in these precincts? 4. C. G. Chamberlayne, editor, "The Vestry Book of St. Paul's Parish, Hanover County, VA, 1706-1786", The Library Board, Richmond, 1940 reprinted 1973. a) 1763 Nov 30 p. 420 [327] "To Mary Spraddling for keepg, Widdow Cawthon 6 months with a cancer. And that Jn Pendleton and Park Goodall do see the said processioning performed & returns their proceedings ..." The William Gunter name might point to Wiliam Harris/Mary Hudson connections, as their daughter Susannah Harris b 1758 married into the Gunter family. )))))) Pat Seaver caught this Morris/Harris error below: Louisa Co., Deed Bk. A, pg. 484, 1752-John Harris and wife, Patience, Amelia Co., VA., and Wm. Harris, and wife, Elizabeth, Hanover Co., deed tract to Cleavers Duke. Here is what she found: "This is from a website giving information about Duke House, apparently on the National Register of Historic Buildings--it appears that it was John and Patience MORRIS, who later sold the land to John O. HARRIS. Mystery solved? Pat S" "HISTORICAL BACKGROUND Located in Louisa County on Route 601 near Buckner, the Duke House is located on the remnant of a tract that was once part of the vast landholdings of Clevears Duke, Sr. In 1752, in two transactions, Duke acquired 700 acres fromJames and Elizabeth Yancey and from******* John and Patience Morris and William and Elizabeth Morris. ****************He conveyed the combined property in 1763 to his son Cosby Duke, who died in 1778 and bequeathed it to his wife, Elizabeth Garland Duke for her lifetime and then to their son John Duke. Elizabeth Duke outlived her son, however, and when she died about 1825, John Duke’s heirs sold the property to John O. and Barbara W. Harris, of Hanover County. The Harrises moved to Louisa County and made their home in the Duke House. According to the 1826 tax records, Harris was a “shoe maker” who owned eight slaves above the age of twelve as well as two horses. 3 Page 10 NPS Form 10-900-a (8-86) OMB No. 1024-0018 United States Department of the Interior National Park Service NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES CONTINUATION SHEET Section __8___ Page _5__ Duke House Louisa Co., VA Architectural evidence suggests that the house was built in the late 1790s during the occupancy of Elizabeth Garland Duke, widow of Cosby Duke, although the traditionally assigned date of construction for the house is 1752. Documentary evidence for a construction date is scare and frustratingly ambiguous. " (This turns out to be John O. Harris married to Barbara Wingfield Terrell, he a son of John Overton Harris m Mary Rebecca Goodwin; he a son of Overton Harris/Ann Nelson; DNA 118934 Group 6 etc. ) I think anything that says William Morris assoc with these families needs a second look, even though I have William Morris m Elizabeth Dabney **************Feeling the pinch at the grocery store?
