Gloria, I think you have to search some of the probate files of Umatilla, Oregon. These frequently provide information about guardianships. Court records also may have some references. If you live near an LDS family history center, you can order some probate films of the appropriate dates from the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. You will have to have time to read the films, and you have to pay a fee--and wait a few weeks. The Library catalog can be found online under the tab Library. The catalog is the last item on the menu under that tab. _www.familysearch.org_ (http://www.familysearch.org) You might inquire whether there is a genealogical society in that county and ask whether--for a donation or fee--someone will do research for you. As an old timer at my local LDS center asks when people want him to help them: Have you done your census work? The 1880 census index [not the images, which are free on Ancestry.com] is also on _www.familysearch.org_ (http://www.familysearch.org) If you local library has the online database called HeritageQuest, you will find the censuses there also, but not all the censuses have been indexed by HQ. Does Umatilla Co. have a rootsweb list? If so, post your questions there also. Congratulations on providing some dates for your folks. I don't know when Oregon began keeping records on deaths, but you might check that also. You have an interesting problem, but I cannot provide you with any facts. E.W.Wallace . Does anyone have any documentation for this marriage? I have found some documentation that seems to indicate that Millie's maiden name was HUNTER. Millie's mother died just a few weeks after Millie was born and her father died a couple years later leaving Millie an orphan. I'm wondering if maybe HICKEY is the name she got from her adopted family. They treated her very poorly and she ended up running away from them. On Millie's death certificate Millie's father's name is listed as "HUNTER"...mother's name as "UNKNOWN". Would appreciate any information about "Millie (HUNTER) HARRIS" or "Millie (HICKEY) HARRIS.
