Harris" <aharris@exis.net> To: barebear@evansville.net Subject: Re: [HH] St. Clair County, Alabama Harris' in BLM GLO Records Ira: I am pretty sure that the Isham Harris listed on the first two lines is my Great Great Grandfather. On the pages of a family Bible his birth day was recorded as Feb. 3, 1783. The 1850 Census of Alabama indicates he was born in Virginia. I have no other evidence to back that up. In 1850 Isham ws living in St. Clair County, Ala. He died Sept... 6, 1874. Isham was married at least twice. The papers filed in probating his estate in St. Clair list heirs Alexander in Ga, Flemming in GA, and Polly in N.C. No addresses are listed in the documents. Isham's wife listed in the 1850 census is Malinda. Children of Isham and Malinda are Biddie Harris, William Joseph Harris, and James Henry Harris. I would like to find out more about Isham Harris, especially exactly where he was born and any collateral relatives. I hope this gets on the HH or H- AL network. Publication: Valley Leaves, September 1975 Harris' in Franklin County, Alabama Marriage Record # 1 (1890-1897) MARRIAGE RECORD NO. 1 (1890-1897) FRANKLIN COUNTY,ALABAMA Under a Summer Youth Program in Franklin Co., these indexes of marriage Records in the Probate Judge's Office have been copied. They have been contributed for publication in Valley Leaves by TVGS member, Evelyn B. Evans (Mrs. R. L.), Clerk of the Franklin County Commission. The Reader is reminded that Franklin County has had two totally destructive fires and one partially destructive fire, the last fire occurring in 1956. As a result of one of the fires (when the county seat was at Belgreen) only one tract book was saved. A clerk happened to be working on that book at home at the time of the courthouse fire. Therefore, Franklin Co. records are very scarce and TVGS is indebted to Mrs. Evans and the Franklin County Commission for making these marriage records available to us. Page Groom Bride 261 J. D. 1. Re: [HH] Williamson County, Illinois Harris' in BLM GLO Records
    2. I believe the Thomas Harris listed to be my gr grandfather. I wish I knew if he did connect to any of the other listed Harrises. Thomas sold his land and moved to Johnson Co. IL after the 1850 census. For a long time I thought that Thomas might be related to McGee Harris--they entered land on the same day and both entries, listed them as from Franklin Co. IL. McGee became a Morman and took the trek to Salt Lake City or Utah. He was in Utah on the 1850 census. There was a history written about McGee's line. I haven't tried to document it except he was probably born in Wilson Co. TN, at least his family was there for a while and he married there. His father was a William Harris, who deeded land in Shelby Co. TN to some of his children in the 1820s. The entries were posted in the Wilson Co. deed books. The bottom line, I could find no connection to my Thomas Harris. I am still tracking down lines in TN and as yet have not found a place for Thomas. Ellen Moore

    1. Re: [HH] Johnson County, Illinois Harris' in BLM GLO Records
    2. From the Illinois listing of land grants, there are also the following Harrises in Johnson Co., IL: HARRIS EMRY F 07 11S 03E 3 01/19/1854 JOHNSON HARRIS EPHRAIM B 16 11S 03E 3 12/19/1850 JOHNSON HARRIS THOMAS 16 11S 03E 3 12/19/1850 JOHNSON HARRIS WILLIAM P 15 11S 03E 3 04/15/1854 JOHNSON HARRIS WILLIAM P 16 11S 03E 3 03/23/1850 JOHNSON HARRIS WILLIAM PITT 16 11S 03E 3 11/18/1850 JOHNSON HARRIS WILLIAM PITT 16 11S 03E 3 11/18/1850 JOHNSON I believe the William P. and William Pitt Harris to be the same person. I believe the Thomas Harris to be the Thomas Harris who entered land in Williamson Co. IL in 1838. William P. and Thomas Harris sold land together in 1851, recorded in 1855 in Williamson Co. IL. Emry F. Harris was in reality, Emery T. Harris, my gr grandfather. Emery T. Harris, William P. Harris and Ephraim B. Harris were sons of Thomas Harris. When I visited the State archives at Springfield, IL, a number of years ago, one of the entries for Wm P./Pitt, listed him as from Williamson Co. I did not locate the entry listed for William P. Harris in 1855, at the Springfield office--at least I didn't have the record. The list above is from the IL website. I would be interested on information regarding any descendants of Ephraim B. and/or William P. Harris. They both died of disease during the civil war. Their widows both remarried. It is possible that the Miles Harris listed on the list posted by Ira was from Robertson Co. TN--at least there was a Miles there--maybe just a coincidence. Ellen Moore
