3. Larealia, In the July 1999 archives of Harris-Hunters, Elizabeth Russo put three generations of this line on the board, starting with Benjamim Harris who married Faithy Smith. According to Elizabeth, his sons Absalom and Benjamin both ended up in Hancock County, Ga. I hope this helps. Ira

I found this in the back of the Bedford County, Virginia Book of Marriages by Dennis and Smith (which I previously posted). Joseph Hackworth, 23 June 1825 Charles Harris, 27 November 1815 Boyce Eidson, 25 March 1816 Cornelius Dabney, 22 October 1792 Henry Chiles, 24 April 1758 Harris Pryor, 27 February 1804 These were the names that "really stuck out" to me. All the book had was alphabetical names and dates. No further information was found. Does anyone know anything about these people? Any insight is appreciated. 1. [HH] Thomas Harris
    2. Dear HH, I'm now in a quandry about the family tree that I have grown. I know that is not an unusual place to be in with the Harrises. I recently received email from Ira concerning the parentage of Thomas Harris (b. 1629 and d.1678), father of James Harris who married Sarah Bailey. I find no documentation to dispute the fact that his father was Major William and Lucy Harris. Now I am hearing the names Thomas and Youette. PLEASE help. Thanks, Allison MacNaughton

    3. There is a major error in the information that I sent earlier in response concerning Mary Jefferson. E. W. Wallace kindly pointed out to me that many of the counties named in birthplace and death place were not formed yet. She is absolutely correct. Most of the locations should probably be Henrico County, as most of the other counties were not formed yet. In this there is a lesson for us all (experienced and inexperienced). Geography is so important in studying and finding our family lines. We should be as careful about our geography, as we are about our family lines. Ira L. Harris III Evv., In.

    3. Source: William and Mary Quarterly, Series I Volume 26-27, 1917-19, pages 114-115 Samuel Branch (John, Matthew, Thomas, Christopher) left a will dated 11 December 1789, recorded in Will Book IV, pages 329.{Chesterfield County, Va.) To my son Arthur all my estate which I have hitherto given him. The estate, slaves and personal property I have given my son Samuel Branch, deceased, to be distributed among his representatives and next of kin in the same manner as if the same had been conveyed by deed to the said Samuel. To my daughters Elizabeth Harris, Hannah Hopkins and Mary Marshall all the estate &c. I have formerly given them. To my sons William, Charles and Thomas (the last- named two being under age) the land on which I now live, to be divided equally. To Elizabeth Jackson for life two slaves, to go after her death to her children, and I also give her 30 pounds. Rest of slaves and personal peroperty to my sons William, Charles and Thomas. Executors, Isaac Salle, and my sons Arthur Branch and William Branch. This Samuel Branch had issue: 1. Samuel Branch who died apparently unmarried, in 1789. 2. Arthur Branch, who removed to Powhatan County, where in 1779 he married Catherine Moseley. 3. William Branch, who married Sarah Martin, but had no issue. 4. Charles Branch, who removed to Powhatan County, and married Elizabeth Porter. 5. Thomas Branch, living in 1807. 6. Elizabeth Branch, who married ________ Harris 7. Hannah Branch, who married __________ Hopkins 8. Mary Branch, who married ____________ Marshall In my database I have that this Elizabeth Branch married John Harris, son of James and Sarah (Bailey) Harris. His grandparents were Thomas and Mary (Jefferson) Harris. His ggrandparents were Thomas and Youette ( ) Harris. His gggrandparents were John Cranmer and Frances (Dacre) Harris. His ggggrandparents were Sir Arthur Harris "of Woodham Mortimer" and his wife, Anne Cranmer. Is this in fact the Harris that Elizabeth Branch married? Is his line listed correctly ? Go to www.familytreedna.com for details. Also click on Projects, then H, and check the Harris study. You may be able to join it and save some money. 3. Hi Audrey, I recently did the DNA test myself. Learn more about it at: http://www.familytreedna.com/ To order the test kit (no blood draw needed!) as part of the Harris surname group, go to this link: http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_det.asp?group=Harris The group moderator (I believe it was a Jeff Harris) will email you back in a day or so, with info on purchasing the test kit from FamilyTreeDNA. By doing it through the Harris surname group, it cost about 1/3 off the regular FamilyTreeDNA price!
