    1. [HH] Need with Help with Associate of Harris Family - James Glen[n]
    2. Dear Listers, This is a very knowledgeable list--lots of people have done their Harris & associates homework! As some of you know, Major Robert Harris of colonial Louisa and Albemarle Cos. had a wife Mourning Glen[n] ? [STB=said to be]. Mourning [Glen] Harris died testate before March 1776. Her husband died testate 1765, and, as I understand my reading of books, films, and various e-mails, Robert had probates in both Louisa Co. and in Albemarle Co. I located this abstracted will of one James Glen, and I need some interpretation of the relationships. Of course, the named grandchildren are grandchildren of the testator, James Glen, but who are the parents of these children? Further question: Is James Glen the father of Mourning Glen, or is he a brother? He died a few years before Mourning, making him a contemporary. Of course, Robert Harris & Mourning had a son named Tyree Harris, but he is not the only person with that name. I can share some information concerning Tyree Harris, son of Major Robert Harris, but I know little of the like-named persons Here is the abstracted will of James Glen of Hanover Co. "James Glen Hano-St. Martin 11 Jun 1762/3 Feb 1763 Son Gideon Glen. Son Nehemiah+ Glen land bound by a plan drawn by Robert Harris. Son Nathan Glen. Son James Glen. Daughter Gemima Symes. Granddaughters Frances Harris (under 18), Jude Harris (under 18), Anna Glen Harris and Molly Glen Harris (under 18). Grandson Peter Harris. Grandson Tyre Harris. Daughter Hannah Austin. Daughter Mary Hopkins. Daughter Elizabeth Byass. Daughter Ann Glen. Wife Hannah Glen. Son Thompson Glen. Daughters Keziah Harris and Sarah Dabney. Exors: Sons Gideon Glen, Nehemiah Glen and Nathan Glen. Wit: Mary Gilbert, Anna Gilbert, Henry Gilbert. (Virginia Genealogical Society Quarterly V. 14, pp. 84-87." as quoted in William Lindsay Hopkins, SOME WILLS FROM THE BURNED COUNTIES (Richmond: 1987). (If you use this material, please use the citation also.) You help in analyzing this abstracted deed will be of tremendous help. Thanks in advance. E.W.Wallace

    2. The First two... Edward Harris and Mary Thorpe, daughter of Timothy Thorpe. 1739 Will Book 4, p. 293. Southampton County Will Book 1, p. 37 John Harris and Margaret Hobbs, sister of Francis Hobbs. 1687. Will & Deed Book 2, p. 280 (His name is John Henry, or Henry John Harris) are my direct line. I suspect that Thomas Harris and ______ Edwards are too, but my dates don't match. My Thomas Harris m. Judith Edwards. Since I have both Harris and Jordan in my line, it is possible that William Harris and Mary Jordan (1790) are also there, but I've not got them. I do have a Mary Jordan, m. to Thomas Newsome, but she would have been 40 in 1790. Also a Lewis Harris, b. 1742, would fit Lewis Harris m. Sarah Thorpe, in 1771. Lewis was the son of Edward Harris and Mary Thorpe, above. I have more information on some of these lines. Some is documented, some not. Alice Evans Mechler

Will of John Kains, dated 6 January 1767 John Kains of the County of Culpeper and Parish of Bromfield To my grandson John Harriss that part of my land that lies on the east side of Comical Run altogether with the houses and plantations whereon I now live. To Joseph Harris and his wife that part of my land that lies on the west side containing 150 acres together with the houses and plantations whereon he now lives. I do constitute and appoint my friends Hermon Spilman and John Stincyfer Junr. to be executors. John Kains Wit: Hermon (X) Spilman, John Stinesyfer, John Henry Stinesyfer This day came Hermon Spilman, John Henry Stinesyfer, Anne mary Huffman and made oath that John Kains, dec., did about an hour before his death in his perfect sences at his own dwelling house give all his estate he was then possessed of, not given by will in writing, to John Harris, except one bed and cap box to Barbary Harris, the said Barbary to have her choice, and a small box to Eve Harris. John Thomas also declared on oath that sometime before his death or sickness he heard the decd. John Kains declare to the same purpose. Certified under my hand 24 January 1767. W.
