It might help in sorting out some of the many Harris' in parts of Virginia and in Kentucky also. Please respond through HH so that others may also be helped. Ira L. Harris III Evv., In.

    3. Ira and others, Notes I have on Tyree Harris named in will below: Tyree Rodes Harris, b. March 15, 1765 in Albemarle Co., VA., d.1841 in Garrard Co., KY. Son of Robert Harris and Lucretia Brown of Albemarle Co., VA and later Surry Co., NC. Tyree's first wife was Sophy Herd. Second wife was Rachel Brown. Christopher Harris of neighboring Madison Co., KY was Tyree's uncle. Children of this marriage were Josephine C., Greenberry, Russell A., Arabia J., Overton Dabney, and Martha Tyree (her middle name). All were born in Garrard Co., KY I believe. Children with first wife were John Wesley, Susan, Brightberry, Elizabeth, Ann, and Elijah. Thompson Harris below is not a brother of Tyree but may be related to the same family. The sources for this information is secondary so if anyone could point to some primary sources it would be appreciated. On Thu, 03 Jul 2003 09:51:40 -0500 (CDT) "Ira L. 1. [HH] Solomon Harris, Penelope Lewis, James Harris, Malinda Collier
    2. The marriage bond for Solomon Jefferson Harris and Penelope Lewis from Garrard County, KY, belongs to my husband's great great grandparents.  We have a copy of that marriage bond. William Sublett is Solomon's stepfather. Solomon's father was Solomon Harris (married to Nancy Blackwell, daughter of Sarah Harris and David Blackwell) who died in 1805 when Solomon Jefferson was a baby.  James Harris who married Malinda Collier was Solomon Jefferson Harris's oldest brother. Malinda was the first of his four wives.  James had many, many children. James and Solomon Jefferson had a brother, Robert, who didn't marry (I don't believe) and a sister, Sally, who married Levy Parnell. James, Robert and Solomon J. Harris went to Missouri. Sally stayed in KY. Penelope's mother, Elizabeth Lewis, remarried to Jesse/Chester Agee and had four more children. Nancy Blackwell and William Sublett had five children. Liz Craven

    3. Ira, Could the THOMPSON HARRIS/FANNY HARRIS listed have any relation to the THOMPSON, HAMPTON, FANNY HARRIS siblings that went to Georgia from North Carolina just after 1800? Are they perhaps the missing parents of this line? or maybe siblings of these parents? This line seems to always hit that brick wall at the three siblings moving to Georgia. 3. Christine & Harris-Hunters, The closest match that I have to the information, is that Foster Jones and his wife Mourning Harris (daughter of Christopher & Mary (Dabney) Harris had a daughter, Frances, who married a Thompson Harris. With them being in the vicinity of Madison County, I think it might be them. I was hoping that someone would have documentation to prove or disprove this idea. Ira

    1. [HH] Some Harrises in Mercer Co., KY (Early)
    2. Dear Listers, Some Harris-Hunters are seeking the roots of some Garrard Co., Kentucky, Harrises. Garrard Co. was formed from Mercer Co., KY. Perhaps there are some clues in the following excerpts (no guarantees in genealogy): E.W.Wallace Mrs. William Breckenridge Ardery in KENTUCKY COURT AND OTHER RECORDS VOL II [Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., 1979], p. 170 states that Richmond Harris of Mercer Co., KY was son of Frederick Harris of Louisa Co., VA. She gives this excerpt from Kentucky records. Ky. Land Office--Va. Surveys, Bk 11, pg. 87--Wm B. Harris and Jas. Overton's Hrs., assee, of Wm. Stewart, assee of David Tanner, assee of Emanual Kelly, assee of Chas. Patterson, 1800 A, part of a 2000 a. entry, part of Treasury Warrant, 10694, located in Mercer Co., on Kentucky River, adjoining Isaac Winston's survey of 1600 acres on East side, bounded by lines of Winston and Ann Poage, Jan. 24, 1789. RICHMOND HARRIS [this writer's caps] assigns one half of land in within plat mentioned to James Overton, Jr., and desires to register grant accordingly. Feb 25, 1789. Signed Richmond Harris. Note: Richmond Harris was the son of Frederick Harris of Louisa Co., VA, see Franklin Co. [KY] Deeds. She adds this information: "Overton Harris, Mercer Co., Ky, Bk. 2 pg. 342-343--Appraisement of estate, Apr. 2, 1803. "Louisa Co. VA Deed Bk G, pg. 422--Frederick Harris of Louisa, appts son, Richard Harris, his atty. in fact to convey his Ky. lands, Mar. 4, 1794. "Richmond Harris to John Overton, Fayette Co., KY., Dt. Ct. Bk.
