Houston Harrison Some Pioneers to Old Augusta County, Virginia, and Their Descendants, of the Family of HARRISON and Allied Lines Joseph K. Ruebush Company, Publishers Dayton, Virginia, 1935 Page 73: A William Harrison, so called, of the province of Lygenia, later York County, Maine, witnessed a deed from Geo. Cleeve, Gent., to land at "bla: poynt," the "last day of July, 1648." (See--- York County, Maine, Deeds, Vol. I, Part 1, Fol. 84.) He signed by making his mark, and later records indicate that he was in reality named William Harris. This is for those who are doing research on New England Harris'. Does this man connect up with some of the Virginia Harris'? As far as I can determine, this man is not part of my line. I ran across this while looking at some Yancey information. Ira L. 2. Ira L. Harris III
    3. Dear Harris Researchers, On Friday, November 14th, I posted a clarification concerning the family group of Robert Harris of Ware Creek, York County, Virginia. This was posted in response to a question from E. W. Wallace. On Sunday, November 16th, I received a response from Pam. Her comments are valid. I did not post documentation because I was fishing for further information that might help clarify and document the relationships listed on my original post of November 13th. Even after 30+ years of research I am not satisfied with the documentation I have. BUT HERE are some of the sources I have used so far in coming up with this possible family group. 1. "Harris and Allied Families of Claiborne, Gillison, Thompson and Whitsett" by Maude Callaway Hays, 1953 2. Harris Family Genforum (various queries and responses) 3. If I led you astray, it was not on purpose. If I did I apologize for inconveniencing you or leading you astray. I have not found a serious researcher who is ever satisfied with their documentation. As I have said several times, and many others have also said, YOU MUST document and re-check your documentation. Don't trust the documentation without checking it. Your interpretation may not be the same as mine. You may not come up with the same conclusions. I hope this further clarification helps.\ Ira L. Harris III Evansville, Indiana

    2. Hi Jane, I don't have any info on Lymon P Harris and don't know if I connect to him, but my Harris branch arrived in Poughkeepsie from England and Wales between 1860-1885. My Mother has the family Bible which has 3 generations of Harris info - no mention of Lymon P though. I have Harris' buried at Poughkeepsie Rural as well - Ellsworth J Harris d. 1947, Richard J Harris d. 1933, and two of Richard's sisters Alice Dudley and Mary R Brenner. Let me know if this is any help to you. Happy hunting, Debbie << Is any one researching or have info on Harris (Lymon P) family from Poughkeepsie? They were there in the 1800"s & are buried in the Rural Cemetery. Thanks, Jane >>

    3. Ira, I, for one, am EXTREMELY dubious regarding this supposed line that you present as the descendants of Robert HARRIS. - I love your postings to the list, and really appreciate them. I think they may help a lot of people. Right on, Ira! And THANK YOU! I DO... - HOWEVER, I think with regard to the lines of Robert HARRIS, as you present it, that there appear to be several different lines confused & intermingled here, and you present them all jumbled up, and with no documentation whatsoever to prove ANY of them. - Where is the document that shows [or even suggests?] that Robert Harris of New Kent Co. came from York Co.? - And where and from whom did you get all of these supposed children of this Robert of New Kent? Is there any documentation to support each [or any?] of them as the children of this Robert? - I just don't see any obvious documentation for most of' these people as children of this Robert HARRIS. - Do you have the documentation? - If you do not have the actual documentation for this line you claim as your own, then I just don't think you should put this supposed line out here without SAYING THAT [that you don't have ANY proof], as it then appears to the rest of us HARRISes that you are presenting a proven line--which it now appears that you are NOT--so we are all very confused {and really frustrated}.] - I hope I haven't upset you---just trying to get the documents that SUPPOSEDLY exist for this particular HARRIS family. 1. [HH] Granville Co NC - Mecklenburg Co VA
    2. Ed Clayton
    3. Harold Andrews asked: "Does anyone know how Mecklenburg County Va and Granville Co. N. C. relate. Did part of Mecklenburg County become Granville?" The answer is that these two counties share a common border - the NC/VA line. I am researching a Harris line in Granville Co NC and the same Harris line and a Perkins line in Mecklenburg and adjacent Halifax counties in VA. My research indicates that most families ignored the NC/VA state line when selecting a mate, when going to church, and probably most other things in their lives. I think this continues even today. Virgilina, VA (small town; VIRGInia - caroLINA) is in the SE corner of Halifax Co, VA and immediately adjacent to the NC border. Nelson, VA (community, post office) is in the SW corner of Mecklenburg Co, VA. This area can be located by searching for Virgilina, VA in most map software and online map sites. The NW corner of Granville County, NC has no "towns" but includes communities such as: Grassy Greek (Church), Amis Chapel (Church), Oak Hill, and Wilbourns. Hope this helps. Others may be able to contribute more. Ed
