    1. [HH] Samuel Perrin Harris married Elizabeth Kennedy
    2. Ira L. Harris III
    3. Source: GENEALOGIES OF KENTUCKY FAMILIES From The Filson Club History Quarterly The library that I work out of has a three volume set with the title above. This information is titled: KENNEDY FAMILY, by Alma Lackey Wilson. She starts the article by giving some background on the Kennedy Family. This Kennedy family ties in with the Estill, Miller, Harris, Faulkner, Francis, Anderson, Irvine --- and numerous other Kentucky families. It then starts with John Kennedy, Sr. out of Rowan County, North Carolina. John Kennedy, and his wife Elizabeth, were the parents of John, Jr; Margaret; Thomas; Joseph (m. Martha "Patsy" Perrin); Andrew; Elizabeth; David; and Mary. Joseph and Martha "Patsy" (Perrin) Kennedy were the parents of Elizabeth; Ede; Joseph; Cassandra; and John. Joseph's second wife was Elizabeth Morrison. By Elizabeth, he had: Mitchel; Jane; Amanda; Cythia; and Patsy. Elizabeth Kennedy (1790-1867), d/o Joseph & Martha "Patsy" Kennedy, married her first cousin, Samuel Perrin Harris (1790-1863). They had nine children, but only four married and had descendants. Joseph Francis, who married Elizabeth Blanks, in 1842 Patsy E. Harris, who married Dr. Nickolas L. Fleming, in 1835 Thomas Monroe Harris, who married Margaret J. Henderson, in 1843 Mary Jane Harris, who married Solomon Caruthers, in 1849 The other five children are not named. This article is quite extensive and would be of interest to those who have several families in Kentucky. I do not research this family, but thought it might be of interest to those who are researching Kentucky families or Samuel Perrin Harris' descendants. I have that Samuel Perrin Harris is part of the Edward Harris - Flora Douglas line. Please send any comments, or corrections, through HH or H-Ky so that others may be helped. Ira L. His wife was Aletha Overfelt, of Bedofrd County, Virginia, and their children were --- Richmond H., Charles A., Andrew J., James C., John L., Elizabeth J., Sarah H., Virginia C., Thomas R., Isaac C., William G., and Aletha J. Harris III Evansville, Indiana ______________________________ Partial answer: These Harrises appear in Halifax Order Book 2, Part I (begins with court Mar 21 1755 snd ends with Mar 17, 1758 court.) Charles, James, Mr., Samuel, Thomas Samuel was one of the justices. But he was also a plaintiff in one case!!! These Rogers families appear: Abraham and John (From index of TLC Genealogy, Halifax County Virginia Court Orders 1755-1758 [Plea Book No. 2, Part 1] [Miami each, FL; TLC Genealogy, 1992) Unfortunately for so many genealogists, it seems TLC Genealogy has gone out of business. I love their books. They published other books of deeds of Halifax Co. The Magazine of Virginia Genealogy [I did not note the Volume nor the year] also published some Halifax Co. pleas. I hope this helps a bit! Nothing definitive, I must admit. A more useful people-finder for a period closer to the War of 1812 would the the 1787 Census of Virginia compiled a number of years ago by Netti Schreiner-Yanits and Florine S. Love. (Tax lists for various Virginia Cos, plus Kentucky which was part of VA in 1787) For a time, one could buy booklets for each county instead of purchasing the three BIG volumes. E.W.Wallace

    1. [HH] Gabriel Maupin, eldest son of Thomas Maupin, of Albemarle Co., VA
    2. Bev Harris
    3. I have found some discrepancies in your information with data on the family of Gabriel Maupin and Ann Spencer as given in a manuscript written by the late Dr. Socrates Maupin, Dean at the University of Virginia at Charlottesville, VA. I do not know which is correct―your data from "A History of the Pioneer Families of Missouri" by William S. Bryan and Robert Rose, or Dr. Maupin's. Dr. Maupin died in 1871. He was the son of Chapman Maupin, grandson of William G. Maupin, and great grandson of Daniel Maupin. This often-quoted Maupin genealogist should have been in position to know the truth, because of the time that he lived and his strategic location. However, he could have been wrong, too. Dr. Maupin lists Anna Spencer as the wife of Thomas Maupin, and does not list a son named Gabriel. The children you have listed are the children of Thomas Maupin and Anna Spencer, according to Dr. Maupin. However, like you, he says that Athanasius T. (Arthur T.?) and Joel came to Missouri. Also, he indicates that Thomas came, too. Here is the information that Socrates Maupin gave on ancestors and the children of Thomas and Anna Maupin: 1. Gabriel Maupin married Ann Ballard 2. Daniel Maupin married Jane Via (Now the family of Thomas and Anna Maupin) 3. Thomas Maupin married Anna Spencer (daughter of John & Rosanna Spencer) 4. John Maupin married Rosanna Maupin 4. Daughter (Nancy ?) Maupin married Pleasant Via 4. Clifton Maupin married Elizabeth Maupin 4. Patsy Maupin married Turner Wood 4. Joel Maupin married Martha Gentry 4. Rosanna Maupin married Unknown Wood 4. Susanna Maupin married William Via 4. Athanasius T. (Arthur T.) Maupin married Daughter of Jerrell Harris 4. Thomas Maupin married Unknown Harris 4. Mary (Polly ?) Maupin married ThomasClarke (Socrates Maupin does not list a David Maupin as one of the children.) I have been interested in the Maupin's for two reasons: (1) I have always hoped to prove kin to them, since the surnames in their family tree are frequently the same as the surnames in my Harris line, and (2) one of the co-founders of the university where I taught for 37 years was a James Rogers Maupin. Mrs. Watson having died, her husband came to America with his three sons, and settled in North Carolina. Robert and William died young. Thomas married Sarah T. Harris, daughter of John Harris, a revolutionary soldier, and settled in St. Louis in 1837. There he became associate editor of the Missouri Argus, and subsequently purchased the paper. In 1842 President Van Buren appointed him Postmaster at St. Louis, a position that he filled for four years. He was subsequently appointed Land Agent for the State of Missouri by President Polk. Mrs. Watson died in 1865, in her 73rd year, and he died in 1870, in his 83rd year. They had nine children, five of whom survived their parents, viz. Henry, Emily, Julia, Sarah, and Thomas. Henry was married twice; first to Miss Hay, of Tennessee, and second to Maria Bergen. He resides in St. Louis. Julia lives in Mississippi, unmarried. Sarah married John Jordan, of Pensacola, Florida. Thomas has been a Presbyterian minister for thirty-two years, and is one of the leading divines of that denomination in this state. He is pastor of Dardenne Church, in St. Charles county, which was organized in 1819, and was the first Presbyterian Church established west of St. Louis. Mr. Watson married Nancy McCluer. I met them several years ago, but have spoken with one of them within the past six months or so. They claim ancestry back to Robert Harris and Mary Claiborne. If someone has an interest I may be able to connect you to this family. They are not active on the internet but can be reached by phone or mail.
