    3. Beth and Other Harris Hunters, Beth, look at the Yancey Family Database. When the screen comes up plug in your Roland Yancey or Salina Harris. If you have any Harris - Yancey connections you should check out the Yancey Family Genealogical Database. The url is: http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=dyancey My mother was a Yancey, so I have used and contributed to this database. Dennis Yancey does a superb job on it. If you don't have a direct Harris-Yancey connection you might look over the hundreds of other related names with family information. This has certainly helped me, and may provide another clue or crack in your brickwall. Ira L. Harris III Evansville, Indiana

    1. [HH] Looking for Claibourne Harris, b. 1780s, prob. in N.C.
    2. Ira L. Harris III
    3. I am looking for a Claibourne (Claborn, Claiborne, Clayborn, Claburn) Harris who was born Bet. 1782-1788, probably in or around Granville County, North Carolina. He is the son of Goldman & Elizabeth (Bell) Harris. He is the grandson of Claiborne "Ned" & Judith (_______) Harris. Among the family such names as Claibourne (and its many spellings), Richard, John, Azael (Azell, Azel), Elizabeth, Jemima, Stephen, David, Thompson, William, Daniel, Johnson, Jane, and Katherine are used quite often. This Claibourne had (the best I can tell) at least two brothers, Azael Daniel Harris (Married Patience ____, died in Marion Co., Ala.) and Joshua B. (Married Hannah _____, died in Pendleton Dist., S.C. Most of my families during this time had numerous children, so I believe that there could have been several more brothers and sisters. If one of your Claibourne's fits this time period and area, please let me know. I am quite willing to share information. This is one of my "brickwalls" at present. Ira L. 1. [HH] Robert Harris, b. Abt. 1771, Granville Co., N.C.
    2. Ira L. Harris III
    3. I am looking for information, proof, documentation, etc. concerning Robert Harris. He was born abt. 1771 in Granville County, North Carolina to Claiborne "Ned" and Judith (_______) Harris. I have information about his brothers and sisters but seem to not be able to find Robert. Robert's brothers and sisters were (the best I can tell): Goldman (also know as Coleman, Goodman. Married Elizabeth Bell, died in Pendleton Dist. S.C.); Nancy Ann (Married Kimbrough Tinsley Ogilvie, Sr., died in Calloway County, Kentucky); Benjamin (Married Karenhappoch Gillison, died in Pendleton Dist., S.C.); Claiborn Thompson (Married Mary L. Champion, died in Blount Co., Ala.); Stephen (Married Mary "Polly" Gillison, died in Gwinnett Co.,Ga.); John Augustin (Married Lucinda "Lucy" Haynie, died in Pendleton Dist.,S.C.); James S. (Married Sarah ______, died in Anderson Dist., S.C.); Richard (Married Jane _______, died in Posey County, In.);Zachariah (Married "Milly" Cooper, died Bef. Jan. 1819 in Posey Co., In.); and perhaps Jemima, born abt. 1777. If you have a Robert who would fit in this timeframe and area, please look him over and see if he might perchance be Ned & Judith's son. I am more than happy to share information with you. Robert is my "brickwall" at present. OR if you have any leads that I might run down, they are appreciated. My Robert may be in any number of states, so don't hesitate if your Robert is not living in North or South Carolina. He might be anywhere. Ira L. Harris III (male) Evansville, Indiana

    2. My observation of some posts on rootsweb (various localities) is that among the younger generations of genealogists, there seems to be ignorance of how difficult it was for families to migrate in early days. Along with family history, we all need to study social history. I wish more American history books had more information about financial panics and depressions. At least one of these in the 1830s caused some of my families to migrate farther west. This clipping was recently posted on the Henderson Co. Kentucky rootsweb. Henderson Co. is across the Ohio River from Evansville, Indiana. Message Board Post: On the Move A family named PIGG occupying a two horse wagon, passed through this place Tuesday evening. They hailed from McMinnville, Tenn., and were en route for Henderson County, where they had formally lived. They had covered the distance so far, in nine days, and showed very plainly the evidences of hard travel. A few days since, two wagons passed through, destined for Georgia. The latter from from Northern Minnesota, and had been nine weeks on the road and expected to complete their journey in two weeks more. Everything was in good condition, and the layout was in jubilant spirits. (Source: Earlington (Ky.) Bee, Thur., Dec. 5, 1895) E.W.Wallace

    3. Has anyone run into a John Franklin Harris b 5 Nov 1855 (on tomb stone) in Barry Cem. Platte Co. MO. His death year is wrong on the stone, so this date could be wrong too. He married Flora Thornhill. He was age 34 then, so he could have been married before. He had 5 children by Flora, Barbara Ann, Pearl, Bessie, Dolly Mae and Howard Bailey, Howard was born in Parksville MO in 1899, the last child. It is possible that John is the son of Benjamin Franklin Harris and Barbara Sutton. Who lived in Platte Co. MO, and later moved to the adjoining county of Buchanan. They had a son John of the right age, but I have not located any documentation that proves he is John Franklin. John died in 1906. This distinguishes him from another John Franklin Harris who lived in the adjoining Clay Co. who died in the 1880's. They were both born about the same time. I spent a lot of time making sure they were not the same person. I have been up against this wall for about 20 years, so any help would be most appreciated. Keep up the great work Ira. THIS application contradicts the Pioneer Families information. "THE FAMILY OF SAMUEL DENT 1755-1834 Samuel Dent, according to census records, was born circa 1755, although his birthplace and his family ties have not been determined. Many Dent families settled originally in Maryland during the late 1600s and early 1700s. Some of these Dents are said to have emigrated from Yorkshire, England. Records in the Maryland Archives list a Revolutionary War service record of one Samuel Dent, of Capt. Clarkson's Company in the Charles Co., MD militia. Many of the Maryland Dents moved westward into neighboring Virginia. Courthouse records list a Samuel Dent in Henry and Franklin (formed 1786 from portions of Henry and Bedford) Counties, from about 1782, as the name appeared on a petition of inhabitants requesting that the county be divided and again on a land record in 1787. Oaths of Allegiance were recorded for Peter Dent and John Dent in 1777 in Bedford Co., Va. Samuel Dent married MARTHA (PATSY) HARRIS, daughter of Revolutionary War Soldier, HENRY HARRIS and ANNIE BIRD/BYRD of that same area, although the Harrises had lived in pre-revolutionary war days in Orange Co. and possibly in Albermarle Co. Patsy Harris Dent was born 23 May 1770. Samuel Dent sold his 150 acres on Reedy Creek in 1795 to John Dent, and by 1796, both Samuel Dent and Henry Harris were living in Madison Co., KY., and were listed on the annual tax list. In 1817, Samuel and Patsy Dent decided to head west and once again sold land, this time, 188 acres on Drowning Creek in Madison Co., KY. (Book M, page 212) A year later, the Dents were over in Franklin Co., MO. Many of the other settlers of Franklin Co., MO were familiar names from KY. About twelve years later, in 1830, Henry Harris, Samuel's father-in-law, being old and infirm, divided and deeded all his Madison Co., KY property to his children and grandchildren. Samuel Dent died in 1834 in Franklin Co., MO. The inventory of his estate was witnessed by John Goode, William Truesdell and C. B. Hinton. Alexander Chambers was executor of the will. The inventory contained notes on H. Fackler, A. Chambers, Samuel Beatty, Dyson Johnson, William Parks, John Harris, Prior Brauly and L. D. Walls. 1. [HH] Harris--Graves Families

    3. Will someone please help with the pedigree of: Louisa Harris, born about 1820 in Warren Co., KY and died after 1880 in Johnson CVo., MO; married Caleb May in Sumner Co., TN on 02 March 1839. They moved to what became Post Oak,Johnson Co.,Missouri about 1840. The father of Louisa Harris was Graves Harris, born about 1780 in Hanover Co., VA and died 1849 in Johnson Co., MO. Father of Graves Harris, I believe, is George Overton Harris, born 1750 in Hanover Co., VA. I believe that Louisa Harris, b. 1820, descends from Col. William Harris and Temperance Overton. That given name of "Graves" for Louisa's father is a sticking point for me. Was there a marriage of the Harris and Graves family before his birth. If so, who married, when and when? Thank you, Trueman Farris. jfarris@execpc.com
