    3. I am quite interested in this Samuel Harris. My Samuel Harris was born ,supposedly, in TN abt. 1785 and died abt. 1836. He had four sons, John, who married Ellen/Elemore Cannon, and Type or Tyre. I don't recall the other two sons names. I have not information about Samuel's parents, etc. Myra Chambers USGenWeb Census Project us-census.org State Coordinator AL. 1. Joseph HARRIS and his sons Benjamin,Joseph & Allen Howard
    2. April 10,2004 Ira asked about Joseph and sons. June 26,2003, Harris Hunters KY printed Joseph's will, proven in Montgomery county,KY 1806. Joseph was a son of Benjamin Harris, atty, born 1710 in Henrico, and Anne Eppes, born 1716 in the Bermuda Hundred. Their children included Benjamin, Joseph, Edward, Richard, Francis Eppes, Ann and Mary ( from Cumberland Will book) Joseph, born after 1745, in Cumberland county Va, (later part of Powhatan) married Rebekah Howard, d/o Allen Howard (re Douglas Register) Their children were Elizabeth and Ann (births shown in Douglas Register) and Benjamin, Joseph, Allen Howard, William Eppes, Mary, Lucy and Rebekah. I have many notes on this family in hopes that Joseph's son Benjamin was the Benjamin Harris born Dec 16,1775 in Virginia who married Mary Paddock and moved to Butler county, Ohio and Sullivan county Indiana. Joseph's will indicates that son Benjamin was under 21 at the writing of the will in 1792. Not likely my ancestor at this point. Shirley Harris Durfee

    2. HAROLD D ANDREWS
    3. In regard to the Samuel Harris listed in Fayette Co. (is that Tennessee?) He might be my Samuel who was the son of Claiborne Harris and who I haven't any information on. If he died in 1836 at 25 years that would put him in the right time frame. (b. 1811) If it was Fayette County, TN then that is the right place because they left there in 1837 headed for Marshall County, MS But I don't understand why his obituary would have been in a Kentucky newspaper. 3. Dear friends and relatives, There is an important bill that needs support. This one brings medical insurance into the current century by making HMO's and insurance companies etc stop discriminating against people who have mental health problems (which almost every insurance company does by giving less coverage to people suffering from real, biological disorders that cause "mental" problems like Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Panic Attacks, Obsessive Anxiety, Attention Deficit Disorder, Schizophrenia etc). It is a way insurance companies save money on the backs of people who already have one strike against them. These disorders are responsible for much suffering and many lost work days. The Brain and the Nervous System are part of the Human Body and people suffering from these physical and often genetic problems should be given as much support as people suffering from diabetes, hypertension, cancer, lung problems, etc. Please go to the web site (http://www.workingforchange.com/activism/action.cfm?ItemId=16748 ) and support this bill, and if possible call your representatives and ask that they support this bill. At a time of exploding Federal deficits and unmet public needs, we cannot afford corporate tax evasion. Recent reports from the General Accounting Office show that more than 60% of large U.S. corporations paid NO federal taxes from 1996 through 2000, and in today's weaker economy, tax receipts from companies have fallen even steeper — corporate taxes now account for a mere 7.5% of overall federal tax receipts, the lowest rate since 1983. 1. Some Research Sources You May Not Have Considered
    2. I suggest each serious researcher read the *lesson* on this website: http://www.ancestry.com/rd/prodredir.asp?sourceid=831&key=A844101 The Ancestry Daily News is a free subscription. Each day a column by a professional genealogist is given, and from nearly every column, I learn something new. You may like to subscribe. Comment: I have used voter's lists only once, and that is because the genealogists in the State in which I live have compiled the 1890 voters registrations for the WHOLE state--to make up for the missing 1890 census. If any of my ancestors (or those of my spouse) lived in a city or a county [in some cases] where there was a city or county directory, I have tried to use the ones which may be available. I nearly always have success in those specific localities, and I encourage others to use city directories to make up for missing censuses, or, better, for missing ancestors whom you suspect may have lived in a well-populated area. Check the online catalogs of libraries in those states to see what may be available, particular in a filmed version, which you might be able to interlibrary loan. The city directories may even be in a large city library or a University library near you. Many of the older ones are on microfiche or microfilm. These are NOT telephone directories.
