    3. as shown, per the info to follow, daniel mckie, jr and michael blocker, who i will also say more about, were purchasers at ellis palmers' 1800 edgefield co, sc estate sale.   ellis palmer/ ann rudd was the brother-in-law of my simcock cannon/ jane rudd, grandparents of my jane cannon harris.   here is the 1771 chesterfield co, va will of my hannah russell rudd, wife of my john rudd, jr of chesterfield co, va, which names my simcock cannon and his brother-in-law ellis palmer as her son-in-laws.   Chesterfield County, Virginia Wills, 1749-1774, edited by Benjamin B. Weisiger III, Will book 2, p. 174, Will of Hannah RUDD written October 2, 1771. Mentions son John RUDD, daughter Avis Whittecar CASHING (CASHON), daughter Hannah CHEATHAM. Court held 12 August 1737, if this court order entry describes a family of siblings: Anne RUSSELL, Hannah Rudd, Elizabeth STOREY, William RUSSELL and John STORY made oath they had no allowance for persons imported to this Colony. (Hannah RUDD had a nephew Edward STOREY.)1771     to follow is the 1800 edgefield co, sc will and estate of our ellis palmer, again, showing that daniel mckie and michael blocker were both purchasers of the estate.   actually, as i renoted, it was daniel mckie, jr instead of sr, who was a purchaser of our ellis palmer's 1800/ 1801 edgefield co, sc estate sale.   From: [email protected] Subject: Wills Record Bk 1800-Elles Palmer Date: Sun, 11 Apr 2004 08:32:33 EDT Page 222 Will of ELLES PALMER of Edgefield Co., S.C...."in order to prevent any disputes that probably arise after my Dessoulution thisn it necessary to make and publish this my last Will and Testament..." 1. [HARRIS-HUNTERS] re reply also to e.w. and harris relevancy per my reseach
    2. belva cauthen
    3. before i continue i would  still like to reply to e.w and to make some comments.   i also agree that not all of our colonial harris families are/ were related and our harris dna project is showing this.   again, our harris dna shows that it is our harris dna group 8, who is said to trace back to our captain thomas harris of jamestown and his son, our major william harris, who was killed by the indians in 1678 in henrico co, va and who was the father of our william harris/ mary giles b ca 1672 and his brother, edward harris, b ca 1674.   our harris group 8 captain thomas harris dna shows that we are not a harris dna match with harris dna group 6, who are said to be descendants of william harris/ temperance overton.   however, what also makes this such a puzzle is that our captain thomas harris' harris family was also there in new kent/ hanover cos, va the same time as your captain william harris/ temperance overton and, again, also, indicated to have been involved there with the same individual and families.   to make this even more complicated, things that have been written in the past about our harris families are not  and/ or cannot be considered as being totally accurate.   again, my reason for coming on harris hunters and talking about my own harris family and my research and interest in them, besides my own interest, of course, and  the controversy i've encountered, especially in regard to whether william harris/ judith hudson was the father of my/ our william harris, sr/ frances goode,  is that our harris dna does show that we are part of captain thomas harris' harris group 8 harris dna family.   again, although, perhaps not easy to follow and, agreed, not of interest to all of you, i believe that it is significant that i can show these relevant and documented connections re my harris family and other of these same related and associated individuals and families back to other of these same relevant areas where my/ our captain thomas harris' harris family  also lived and who can be shown to have been involved with these same and/ or other relevant individuals and families  in these  same places.   in fact, what i am trying to show, and not easy to do in a linear model with words  (and i know too many words) but, in fact, not an easy model to draw or show period, is that these relevant and documented connections  i am talking about, re my own and our related harris family and other of these same individuals and families, etc, are like these multi-dimensional  circles that spiral and overlap and intersect in the same but also relevant different times and places.   for now, the things i have been and am talking about are based on these two laurens co, sc deeds and property owned in laurens co, sc by my charles harris/ jane cannon, who was the son of my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers, who died in 1799 in laurens co, sc and who was the son of my william harris, sr/ frances goode of lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va and who is indicated, again, per my research, based on the relevant records and connections, to have been the son of william harris/ judith hudson also of lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va   again, since our harris dna says that we are part of the captain thomas harris' harris line and family,  and, again, if and as my research and the records show, the father of my william harris, sr/ frances goode was william harris/ judith hudson, and who would have been either the son of our william harris/ mary giles or his brother, edward harris, on back to our captain thomas harris,  it is also important and relevant, again, not just for myself and my immediate family and  our specific harris lines and families to show and talk about all of this as best i can, but of more wider and more general interest and import as well.   again, what i am talking about now in regard to these relevant and documented connections are these two laurens co, sc deed involving land that was owned by my charles harris/ jane cannon, which, again, show these multi-layered connections that, again, still pertain to my  and/ or our related harris family and, again, these same and/ or other relevant individuals not only there in laurens co, sc, but, again, back to these earlier areas of interest re our harris family and these same and/ or  related, associated individual families involved with them.   so far, in regard to these two laurens co, sc deeds involving my charles harris/ jane cannon, etc, i have talked about, this same thomas burton, who was also involved in a previous suit involving this same land and who was the same thomas burton also of lunenburg co, va, son of james burton, sr, whose daughter agnes burton married james hudson, who was the son of peter hudson, sr and who was also the father of judith hudson harris.   to, again, give a somewhat brief example of how multi-connected and involved all of this is, thomas burton married as his first wife, nancy ann perrin, daughter of joseph perrin, who lived on this same twittys creek in lunenburg/ charlotte co, va as edward harris, sr, whose harris descendants are also a harris dna group 8/ captain thomas harris match.     as shown, again, per these lunenburg co, va deeds and joseph perrin's will, joseph perrin was involved there also on twitty's creek with the ligon family, who is the same ligon family as that of thomas ligon/ mary harris, daughter of our captain thomas harris and sister of our major william harris, father of our william harris/ mary giles and his brother, our edward harris.     joseph perrin, who, like our harris family and who was also on this thomas partridge store ledger in hanover co, va,  also moved also from hanover co, va to brunswick/ lunenburg co, va.   the earliest info for joseph perrin is that joseph perrin and christopher hudson,  who, again, was the son of john hudson/ elizabeth harris of hanover co, va, witnessed this 1745 brunswick co, va deed wherein abraham cook, jr sold land to james hester in louisa co, va.   again, this is/ was the same abraham cook, jr, who i have just also recently talked about re these early hanover co, va patents, which show that in 1722 abraham cook, jr had a patent for 400 acres in hanover co, va on a ridge between the northanna and little rivers and in 1723 a william harris also had a patent for 400 acres on this same ridge between the northanna and little rivers, adjacent abraham cook, jr.     again,  besides this william harris, there was also a robert harris and a john harris, who all also had patents, like abraham cook, jr, in this same northanna/ little river area and this, as well as other info i have cited and talked about, per these amelia co, va deeds i cited, would indicate that this william harris; this robert harris; and this john harris were part of our captain thomas harris' harris line and family.   this is also the same abraham cook, jr, who died in 1748 in lunenburg co, va and whose will was witnessed by richard palmer and thomas satterwhite.   again, this was the same richard palmer involved with our david harris/ jane landy richardson and our harris family on cubb creek in louisa co, va and who also moved to lunenburg co, va and who, again, also witnessed deeds there re both my william harris, sr/ frances goode and william harris/ judith hudson.   again, these connections re both joseph perrin  and richard palmer are even more multi-layered and involved.   again, based on these same laurens co, sc deeds involving my charles harris/ jane cannon and this property on raborns creek, and which i have also talked about previously,  it also involves my charles harris/ jane cannon and his brother, our john l. harris with lydall allen, who was the son of charles allen, jr/ lucy bacon who re-married charles smith.   again, lydall allen was the brother-in-law of our john l. harris/ mary allen, brother of my charles harris, etc, and, again, these connections are  also of multi-level interest.    charles allen, jr/ lucy bacon allen smith was the son of charles allen, sr, who can also be shown to have been  involved with james burton, sr in lunenburg co, va, etc, and if i went into further, these connections re the allens, etc, this would also probably be more involved.     charles smith, who re-married lucy bacon allen, was the son of joshua ambrose smith of louisa co, va and although i have not focused on the louisa co, va area, like the lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va area, this was our captain thomas harris' family also in louisa co, va and, again, i can show, and have, other relevant documented connections re my william harris, sr/ frances goode and william harris/ judith hudson with our harris family in louisa co, va, again, with other of these same relevant individuals and families.   more recently and, again, re these relevant laurens co, sc deeds involving my charles harris/ jane cannon, i have shown that the same saxon family involved with both my harris and rodgers family in laurens co, sc, also trace back to  hanover co, va where they were not only also involved with harris family there, again, indicated to have been our captain thomas harris' harris family there on saxon swamp, but the saxons were involved there with the yancey family, who were the same yancey family, again, not only involved with our david harris/ jane landy richardson there in louisa co, va, but also the same yancey family, who also involved moved to and were involved with both my william harris, sr/ frances goode and william harris/ judith hudson in lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va.   i am going to talk more about these relevant and involved connections re daniel mckie and the satterwhite family, etc,  which, again, still involves this same land that had belonged to my/ our charles harris/ jane cannon on raborns creek there in laurens co, sc.   i cannot say if i could make this less involved i would because the fact that it is this multi-layered and involved is in itself i think relevant.     i wish i could, perhaps, show and picture all of this easier, etc, but i cannot and i certainly wish i had more of the answers to all of this, but i do not.     to be continued:   belva harris cauthen harris dna group 8--------26910

    1. [HARRIS-HUNTERS] Lack of Evidence of Linkage of Amelia Co. Harrises & Louisa Co. Harrises
    2. Dear Belva and other interested parties. To date, I have found no link between the Harrises of colonial Louisa Co., formerly of Hanover Co. and probably prior to that of New Kent Co. and those Harrises of Amelia Co. According to the FHL catalog [my online quick research tool] and a PLACE search, this is about the formation of Amelia Co. - formed in 1734 from Prince George and Brunswick Co. Amelia Co. seems a *fur piece* from the folks along the North Anna River in Louisa Co. According to some historians, life *below the James* was considerably different from that *above the James*. (Guess I had better take a history course in Virginia, which I have done from time to time at Elderhostels.) I am no historian, but it seems that the area south of the James began to be settled and this the counties formed when the demand for tobacco warranted persons moving there and developing the land. I believe Landon C. Bell writes about some of the difficulties which beset the *pioneers* south of the James, but it has been some time since I read at his books! Some genealogists, who have become historians because of this crazy hobby, stress that most of the transportation in Virginia's early years was by water. Roads were bad, and, even now, this person from drought-stricken California considers Virginia beset by rains. I have nearly drowned in rainstorms in Alexanderia, in Arlington, and in Washington, DC. (I am old enough to remember my mother driving on muddy roads to go see her parents in an very rural area and getting stuck in the mud, etc.!!! I remember men working on those same roads with mules and primitive, to us, road equipment. I envision parts of Virginia, which has much more rain than those of us West of the Mississippi encounter, were not easy to traverse.) Unless one can show me documents about the relationship of persons in colonial Amelia Co. to those in colonial Hanover and in Louisa Co., I would question any relationship of those Harrises. I cannot believe all Harrises in colonial Virginia were linked!!! I have so many common names in my lineage, that I have been disabused by Christine Rose of the Rose Family Association that all colonial Roses were linked!!! I do recall, however, that by Virginia law, the land went to the eldest son, and his name did NOT have to be mentioned in a will. With Major Robert Harris, colonial surveyor of Louisa Co. in its early days, and prior to that member of House of Burgesss, he acquired enough land that he seems to have given his sons land. To his sons-in-law, he gave slaves. I deduce from the records that Tyree Harris, his eldest son, however, was a speculator at heart, and he headed to colonial Orange Co. NC, and I even find that he had an early patent for land in Anson Co. He died testate in Caswell Co., NC. Some of the Harris-Hunters are linked to his descendants. It seems from the extant records that Major Robert, almost certainly the son of William Harris and Temperance Overton, was entrenched in the politics and the land ownership in Louisa Co., part of which became Albemarle Co. I will keep on the *back burner* the folks in colonial Amelia Co., but to date, I do not think there is a linkage. Have some chores to do now. Thanks for provoking some discussion about those Southland Harrises!!! E.W.Wallace **************Get fantasy football with free live scoring. Sign up for FanHouse Fantasy Football today. 1. [HARRIS-HUNTERS] re harris/ cannon/ goode/ mckie/satterwhite, etc, part one
    2. belva cauthen
    3. this is also going to be quite involved.  so, again, i am going to talk about and, then, cite the info.   again, per the laurens co, sc deed i have cited in the past and recently, my charles harris/ jane cannon, son of my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers, owned land in laurens co, sc with james holley, which bordered on lydall allen and which had involved a suit with thomas burton.   again, thomas burton was the son of james burton, sr of lunenburg co, va whose daugher agnes burton married james hudson, son of peter hudson, sr, who was also the father of judith hudson harris.   per another laurens co, sc deed, again, this same land which belonged to my charles harris and james holley became the property of lydall allen, which involved a suit with daniel mc kie of the spartanburg district.   daniel mckie was the son of michael mckie who had moved from lunenburg co, va to newberry co, sc and died there in 1814.  at this time, daniel mckie was in edgefield co, sc.    in looking for info on daniel mckie in edgefield co, sc, i found that daniel mc kie was one of the purchasers of the estate of ellis palmer.   ellis palmer/ ann rudd, who died in 1803 in edgefield co, sc, was the brother-in-law of my simcock cannon, jane rudd, daughters of my john rudd, jr/ hannah russell of chesterfield co, va.   again, simcock cannon/ jane rudd were the grandparents of my jane cannon harris.   another purchasers of ellis palmer's estate sale was michael blocker.  he was the father of redden blocker, who was enumerated adjacent my archibald harris/ elizabeth carter per the 1834 ga state census cobb co, ga.   i have corresponded with someone in the past, who told me that both redden blocker's 1st and 2nd wives were harrises, who she believed were sisters.     sorry to say, she did not know more about them, but this info definitely indicates to me that the harris wives of redden blocker must have definitely been somehow related to my charles harris/ jane cannon and my arch harris/ elizabeth carter and possibly younger sisters of my charles harris/ jane cannon.   to return to the mckies, again, daniel mckie' s father michel mckie, who was also from lunenburg co, va, again, died in 1814 in newberry co, sc and this was also michael mckie's daughter  susannah mckie who married john satterwhite.   the satterwhites were also from brunswick/ lunenburg co, va also to laurens/ newberry cos, sc.   this was also the same satterwhite family inter-involved with my goode family.  our samuel goode, son of my mackerness goode, sr and brother of our mackerness goode, jr, married jemimah davenport, whose sister rebecca davenport married bartlett satterwhite.   they were the daughters of joseph davenport, who moved from granville co, nc and died in 1791 in newberry co, sc and the lunenburg co, va deeds for joseph davenport and the satterwhites show their connections with the mitchells and other of these lunenburg co, va individuals and families.   it was thomas satterwhite and richard palmer, who witnessed abraham cook, jr's 1748 lunenburg co, va will.   again, per the info i have cited, richard palmer was not only involved with our david harris/ jane landy richardson in louisa co, va and our harris family on cubb creek, but, again, richard palmer, who had also moved to lunenburg co, va also witnessed lunenburg co, va deeds re both my william harris, sr/ frances goode and william harris/ judith hudson.   this abraham cook, jr, who died in 1748 in lunenburg co, va, had moved there from hanover co, va.   per the hanover co, va patents, abraham cook, jr had a patent in 1722 for 400 acres on a ridge between the north anna and little rivers near john harris, edward garland, john perkins, and james sutor.   in 1723, also per these hanover co, va patents, william harris of hanover patents 400 acres in same between the northanna and little rivers, adjacent the land of abraham cook, jr and new market tract lines.   this is where i think malcolm harris and others, to follow, have gotten this wrong.     he believed that captain william harris/ temperance overton was the same as william harris, gent, and i believe this william harris, gent, per the patent below, was ours, and that this harris family in this northanna and little rivers/ new market tract area was our captain thomas harris' family and not that of captain william harris/ temperance overton.   william harris of hanover, gent, patents 76 acres on north side of little river, corner of new market line, march 24, 1725.   captain william harris/ temperance overton, who is also called, gent, had patents for land on the south side of the little river----not the north side------as shown per these patents.   captain william harris of hanover pays 30 shillings for 266 acres on the south side of the little river at the mouth of byers' branch running to his own land, march 24, 1725   here is another:  william harris, gent, hanover, patents 76 acres on the south side of the little river near john glenn and new market lines.   both these deeds for william harris, gent, mention this new market line but, as shown, one william harris, gent, who would have been captain william harris/ temperance overton, shows that his patent was still on the south side of the little river.   whereas the other william harris, gent, who is indicated to have been ours and part of our captain thomas harris' family, his patent, which also metions the new market tract, was on the north side of the little river.   in 1728, robert harris is also shown to have had 400 acres between the north anna and little rivers also adjacent cook's lines.   again, these deeds and patents, cited previously, definitely show that we do have a robert harris, again, as part of our captain thomas harris' family.   again, i want to continue to compose and to post for now these mckie/ satterwhite connections, etc, re my harris, goode, and cannon families.   again, perhaps others can study and look at these deeds/ patents and reply.   to be continued:   belva harris cauthen harris dna group 8------26910

    3.       e.w.   i do not know what the answers are to these questions re our different harris families.    our harris dna says that our captain thomas harris line and family is a totally separate harris line and family with a different haplotype from that of your captain william harris/ temperance overton, with the condition that those of us who have submitted our dna have our paper trails accurate.   since we have a number in both groups, who have submitted their harris dna and genealogies, then, it would seem that for the most part we do have accurate paper trails and/ or enough so to, again, show that we are not the same harris families.    again, i do not think we can totally count on what has been written in the past re our harris families as being totally accurate.    are we, for example, looking at these patents and/ or interpreting them accurately, etc?   obviously, it is very confusing to try and sort out all the william harris but, also, what about the robert harrises.  how many robert harrises are we talking about and which was which, etc?   what i find curious is that so many of these families, who are thought to have been associated with your captain william harris/ temperance overton, are shown to have been also associated also with our captain thomas harris' line and family, including your williams family.   so, was our captain thomas harris family that involved with your captain william harris/ temperance overton and these same individuals and families?   again, i do not know the answers for now.   i am, also, looking at these early va patents and i want to cite several for the robert harrises and  also one for this benjamin harris.    based on the deeds and info i have seen and cited, these harrises re these patents i am going to cite would certainly seem to belong to our captain thomas harris family.   BENJAMIN HARRIS, 787 acs. 3. James, I just checked some old emails from 2004 and realized that I was one of the two financial contributors for your uncle's Harris DNA testkit. Small world isn't it?   Anyway, it looks like that means your Harris ancestors are DNA group 30 which now consists of three members including your uncle. It looks like the other two teskits in group 30 trace back to a Joseph (aka Josiah) Harris m Nancy Morefield in 1824 Patrick Co, VA. Am I reading all this correctly so far?   Anyway, do you have any theory's on why there are so few Harris males in group 30 if that line does in fact go all the way back to early Jamestown, VA? In contrast, Group 4 has right at 30 testkits in it. I realize that this is not a truly scientific sample or comparison. However, it is rather curios looking at first glance. You thoughts? A polite pondering on your part will be fine. Just please hold off on any emotional outbursts if you don't mind.   John

There are other surnames in these few abstracted records which are associated with this particular Harris family: Brown, Benjamin & John Crawford, David Dabney, Cornelius, George, John Dumas ? Gentry, James,Nicholas, Samuel Glen, (Glinn), Jeremiah & John Jouet Overton [as noted] Pettus Rodes Your research will help me--and others of course! Remember, these records cover only two years. Hanover Co. records, besides patents and a vestry book, are among the few early colonial records extant. Thanks. E.W.Wallace **************Get fantasy football with free live scoring.
