Barbara, Can you please give the approximate dates of your Elijah Willis Harris? It would benefit others to post as much information that you have. You never know someone might have the clue you are looking for. Thanks Mary Harris Henderson, NC

Ken, thank you for the information. Do you have any information on the descendants John Harris b 1765 and Nancy Williams? Did they have a son named William B. Tom King sent me a messsage about the Virginia Wills book and I asked him if I could forward it to this site. He agreed but asked me to correct a typo in it that says "Henry Harris died in 1751". He said it should be 1755. I tried but it would not let me change a message I had received, so I had to add it this way. Dick Eastman in his FREE almost-daily newsletter writes about the claim that Barack Obama may be related to Wild Bill Hickock. A researcher at New England Historical and Genealogical Society confirmed the relationship in about half an hour. Eastman writes, in part: The story was posted on the Associated Press wire at: _http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5gyXVIfZ2F2CTuuxH3_93vuTP-ywwD928D6QO0_ (http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5gyXVIfZ2F2CTuuxH3_93vuTP-ywwD928D6QO0) . Eastman's opinion or comments: I don't get too excited about claims that a politician is related to someone else of fame. After all, I suspect that most anyone whose ancestors have been in this country at least 5 or 6 generations is probably related to everyone else whose ancestors have been in this country at least 5 or 6 generations. I don't find that to be terribly newsworthy. Well, if we take Dick Eastman at his word, perhaps we can forget about trying to sort out all the colonial and early post-Revolutionary Harrises!!! But, still we plow on. Because we are curious people, in lots of ways, and besides, not only is this crazy hobby entertaining, it gives us lots of other people to converse with--either in person or on e-mail, and sometimes by telephone!!! Since there seems to be so much increased activity on this list at the moment, I will throw in my brick wall, again ! Levi Harris born about 1805, possibly in NC Married Dorothy Bozeman, daughter of Luke Bozeman Sr and Elizabeth Betsy Ward in Jefferson County Territory of Florida, December 29, 1831. A Levi Harris bought 40 Acres of land in Jefferson County, FL Oct 2,1835. He apparently bought another 40 Aug 21 1832 . A Levi Harris was on the Grand Jury dated Nov 26 1832 According to History of Jefferson Coungy by Shofner page 48 In 1830 Levi Harris was elected Captain of all the Infantry Companies in Jefferson County. I am searching for the names of Levi's parents, date and place of death. There is a Levi Harris on the Georgia death index, born 1861-62, died in Terrell CountyGA March 15 1925. This is not the Levi I seek as he is listed as "Negro". I will appreciate any and all info regarding Levi Harris's parentage and date and place of death for him and for Dorothy Bozeman Harris. While *thumbing through* the online books on HeritageQuest [available at some public libraries] concerning the broad subject *Virginia*, I found an intriguing book--to me--about a lot of Scots-Irish people, originally from Pennsylvania, who were being baptized in the Church of England in Augusta Co., VA. If you suspect one of your Scots-Irish ancestors may have been among this group--including some *Papist* or *Roman* Irish [not generally Scots-Irish, who were Protestant], I suggest you take a look. I have looked about half-way through. I am hoping to find some other folks, who may be on their way to other climes!!! On the second page of cited book, I have located a *usual suspect* -- Agnes McCord, who, I am almost certain, is my ancestor. I know from Lyman Chalkley's volumes of some of the Scotch-Irish Settlements of Virginia that she, Agnes McCord, and her husband Christopher Harris sold some property in Augusta Co. This brief record [the Reverend was keeping score on how many baptisms he performed] indicates Agnes' father was named John McCord. Some McCord *name collectors* want to call him Johannes McCord, but perhaps this man was of an older generation. >From my notes. Generally, in this list the name of the father comes first. Some children born out of wedlock have sponsors, with some notes about the behavior of the mother--and sometimes the putative father.: >From HeritageQuest at LAPL July 29, 2008: Book cataloged under Virginia: List of Baptisms by Reverend John Craig, Augusta County, Virginia 1740-1749 [Staunton, VA: L.B. (Dennis Ray Hudgins, ed., CAVALIERS AND PIONEERS, Vol. VII [Richmond: Virginia Genealogical Society, 1999], p. 95) Indexes of Albemarle Co., VA deeds examined in 1997 indicate that by 1771/1772, Agnes had married Christopher Harris, as their names appear in Albemarle Co. Deed Bk 5 (Jan Ct 1771-Aug Ct 1772). More study is needed. Recorded in Augusta Co., VA, Deed Bk 22-397: 17 Nov 1778 Christopher Harris and Agnes of Albemarle to John Collins. Delivered: Thos. Ira: I note in the last paragraph of your e-mail of 22 July to Belva that you had family that went into the Mississippi Territory about 1818. This sounds very much like t he Harris (Williams) family that I am tracking that left the Anson Co., NC area in 1817, spent a year in Tennessee, and finally settled in 1819 in what became Greene Co., AL and which later partly became Hale Co., AL in 1867. One of the leaders of this group was John Harris, son of Sherwood Harris and Hannah Page. In the beginning of your e-mail to Belva you comment on listing children might help sort out the families we are pursuing. According to The Douglas Register of Dover Parish, Goochland Co., VA, p. 6, Sherwood (Sherrod) Harris and Hannah Page were married on 16 Dec. 1761. The children of Sherwood Harris from two and possibly three wives were as follows along with their spouse(s). Franky (female) b. abt Jan 1763 m. Shadriot Eason John b. 3 Apr 1765 m. Robert Stringfellow The will of Sherwood Harris, dated 23 Aug 1805 and probated in the October 1805 Court Anson Co., NC as written in Harry-Harris-Williams Kith and Kin compiled by Imogene McCreight Fitzgerald gives to the first five children, Franky, John, Hannah, Mary and Archabald the sum of one dollar and no more. Jonathan, #6 child gets 25 acres of land adjoining him from my two hundred thirty eight acres in Richmond Co. on Mountain Creek. Hudson, #7 child and William #8 child get the remainder of the tract which is two hundred and thirteen acres to be equally divided among them. Nancy, #9, and Tilman, #11, get one hundred dollars each, Sherrod, #12, gets one hundred acres of land lying on the Camp B ranch of Savana Creek, Anson County an d my wife Elizabeth is to live on it during her widowhood. Daughter Elizabeth, #13, gets sixty five dollars. Also I lend my wife Elizabeth Harris all my household furniture, plantation tools and all my stock of all kind during her natural life or widowhood and at her death or marriage then it is my will and desire that it shall be equally divided among my six youngest children, Nancy Harris, Simeon Harris, Tilman Harris, Sherrod Harris, Elizabeth Harris, and Martha Harris. He also names his two sons John Harris and Archabald Harris to be his executors. Mary Elizabeth Jones has been identified as the wife Elizabeth of the will and is most likely the mother of the "six youngest children" mentioned in the will. Hudson and William are treated similarly in the will and are born after an eight year gap from the 6th child, Jonathan, which might mean a different mother. This has been suggested by others but has not been proved. If this family seems of interest to anyone I have several more generations which I can list. Ken Schwarzburg

in addition to all else i have talked about on harris hunters, which, again, i definitely believe are relevant and significant re these really involved connections re my harris family and other of these same, related and associated families, these really are amazing connections that this michael blocker was a purchaser of the 1800 estate sale of ellis palmer, who was the brother-in-law of my simcock cannon/ jane rudd, grandparents of my jane cannon harris and that his son, reddin blocker was enumerated adjacent my archibald harris/ elizabeth carter per this 1834 ga state cobb co, ga census, which, again, i will say more about. then, also, as shown, rosannah griffin blocker was the daughter of william griffin/ sarah kirksey, who is indicated/ stated to have been the son of richard griffin/ mary green of halifax co, va, who, again, is indicated to have kinship with the same griffin family as that of anthony griffin, who was also named as a legatee of peter hudson, sr. i am just really studying myself these connections re richard griffin/ mary green but this rootsweb site info, to follow, connects them also with the sizemores and, again, this 1750 dodson survey for this land on wynne creek for william harris, sr and william harris, jr, and which became a patent to my william harris, sr/ frances goode in 1758 bounded on the sizemores and anthony griffin. these rootsweb sites show that michael blocker/ rosannah griffin were the parents of redding/ reddin blocker, whose 1st and 2nd wives were harrises. at first, i thought they might be sisters of my charles harris but this would not be possible if the dates of birth that are given here for redden blocker's harris wives are accurate. however, they are definitely shown and indicated, though, to have been related to my charles harris/ jane cannon and my archibald harris/ elizabeth carter. again, redden blocker was enumerated adjacent my archibald harris/ elizabeth carter per the 1834 cobb co, ga state census, which i will, again, also say more about. again, as shown, redden blocker was the son of michael blocker/ rosannah griffin, who is shown to have been the daughter of william griffin/ sarah kirksey and, again, michael blocker was one of the purchasers of ellis palmer's 1800 edgefield co, sc estate sale. again, ellis palmer/ ann rudd was the brother-in-law of my simcock cannon/ jane rudd, grandparents of my jane cannon harris, wife of my charles harris, parents of my archibald harris/ elizabeth carter. again, besides talking about this 1834 ga state census where reddin blocker was enumerated adjacent my archibald harris/ elizabeth carter, again, i still have other things to point out re reddin blocker as well.
