i want to talk specifically about this lunenburg co, va deed which shows that in 1746, sylvanus walker sold land to isaac winston, jr of hanover co, va, which was witnessed by tandy walker, etc. in this case, this sylvanus walker is indicated to have been the brother of tandy walker, who also witnessed this deed, sons of sylvanus walker/ ann tandy of new kent co, va, who had moved to lunenburg co, va. as talked about here on harris hunters, the winston family is said to have been more associated with the family of william harris/ temperance overton, but, again, this is part of all of this info re our harris families there in new kent/ hanover cos, va we are still trying to puzzle through and to figure out. again, what i can say based on these lunenburg co, va deeds and records, as well as those in laurens co, sc, these were the same families, including the walker family, who were significantly involved with my harris and goode family; the hudsons, etc, there in lunenburg co, va and who were still the same individuals and families also significantly involved with my harris and goode family, etc, in laurens co, sc. again, there are too many families involved here and the connections are too multi-layered and involved for me to sum all of this up and if this had been easy or simple for me to show you how all of this relates and connects, i would have done so. lunenburg co, va deed book 1, page 97, 1746, silvanus walker of lunenburg co, va to isaac winston, jr of henrico co, va for 150 pds, 150 acres on the south side of ****ing creek, now called modest creek, bounded by munford, john winn, evans. signed: silvanus walker. witnesses: lydall bacon; hampton wade; tandy walker. hampton wade, who also witnessed this deed, was the son of robert wade, sr, who had also moved from hanover co, va to lunenburg co, va. it was memucan hunt, who, again, had the patent in lunenburg co, va with samuel harris, which i have just talked about recently in this same bluestone creek area where both my william harris, sr/ frances goode and william harris/ judith hudson lived and the same samuel harris, shown to have been involved with them early in lunenburg co, va in cornelius cargill's district. memucan hunt, who was the son of ralph hunt also of hanover co, va and who was also associated with robert wade, sr there, married mary wade, daughter of robert wade, sr. samuel harris, as the executor of the estate of adlar david early in lunenburg co, va sold land to robert wade, sr or jr, which was also witnessed by hampton wade. again, this land was in the difficult creek area of lunenburg/ halifax co, sc which is also where peter hudson, sr lived and who was also the father of judith hudson harris. here is the info, again, which also associates robert wade, sr and ralph hunt there in hanover co, va and also with a william harris. again, it would be very helpful to know which william harris this william harris refers to but i do not think we have an absolute lock on who all of these william harrises were per these new kent/ hanover cos, va processioning records. here is the info from the st paul's parish vestry, hanover co, va, processioning records which, again, associates robert wade, sr with ralph hunt there and also with a william harris. P. 283 & 284 (218) At a Vestry held for St. Pauls Parish Octobr ye 18th 1735. " Ordered into one precinct for processioning the lands of Chas. Hudson, Gent., Alexander Cock, John Hudson, Cornel's. again, per info i have posted in the past, but also from this rootweb site, allen stokes/ martisha may, who witnessed and proved samuel harris' 1799 pittsylvania co, va will, was the son of sylvanus stokes/ sarah allen and grandson of young stokes of lunenburg co, va, whose 1769 lunenburg co, va will was witnessed by lydall bacon. again, there are too many significant and involved connections re these same and related families not just from new kent co, va on into this lunenburg co, va area but also from there on into laurens co, sc for these not to be also relevant connections also re my/ our harris family. first of all, i am still waiting for another of the posts i posted to harris hunters last night to see if it were actually posted as i have not received confirmation that it was. again, this post still involves these connections re memucan walker having witnessed our patrick cunningham/ ann harris' 1796 laurens co, sc will, along with sarah clary, and these relevant connections re my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers but, so far, this has not come through to me that this post has been posted. i have more to say about these connections re the walker family and their involvment with the same families as our harris family, etc, both there in lunenburg co, va as well as on into laurens co, sc. as i have also said in the past, these connections are themselves so multi-layered and involved that it is hard to convey just how multi-dimensional and involved all of this is. although, i do want to still talk a little more about these walker, etc, connections both there in laurens co, sc and lunenburg co, va, and may also come back to talk about at some point, i do have other relevant connections and things i also want to talk about. as indicated, there are also these laurens co, sc deed wherein george anderson, wife, molly, sold to mariah goodman land that bordered on sylvanus walker and also that sylvanus walker, wife, sarah and james burnside sold land to thomas wilkes and frances lester that bordered on mariah goodman, etc. again, there is a lot re these connections and, as indicated, the land george anderson sold to mariah goodman was on north's creek, which, again, is where my william harris, sr/ frances goode and my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers obtained these ca 1770 adjacent laurens co, sc grants. speaking of my rodgers family, this george anderson who sold this land to mariah goodman and this james burnside involved also with him are part of the family of my andrew rodgers, sr/ jane who died in 1755 in lunenburg, now charlotte co, va. this george anderson/ molly saxon, who was his 3rd wife, per the info, was the son of james anderson/ margaret rodgers of wards fork/ creek in lunenburg, now charlotte co, va, who also moved to laurens co, sc ca 1770. james anderson's wife, margaret, was the daughter of my andrew rodgers, sr/ jane and sister of my john rodgers, esq/ sr, father of my frances rodgers harris. here is the 1755 lunenburg/ now charlotte co, va will for my andrew rodgers, sr: 425. Rodgers, Andrew 12-18-1755; 7-6-1756; W.B. 1/160: Mentions: Wife: Janet Rodgers (she is called jane in laurens co, sc) Sons: Andrew Rodgers, John Rodgers, Thomas Rodgers, Patrick Rodgers Daughters: Rebecca Rodgers, Margaret Anderson, Elizabeth Culbertson, Martha Burnside; Son-in-law: James Burnside. Executors: Janet Rodgers (wife), James Burnside. Witnesses: David Caldwell, William Cunningham, Wm. Caldwell. also here is a lunenburg co, va deed showing that james anderson, wife, margaret, lived in this ward's fork/ creek area of lunenburg, now charlotte co, va. lunenburg co, va deed book 3, page 328, 1753, james anderson of lunenburg co, va to george clarke of same for 110 pds, 440 acres on ward' fork, being part of a larger tract formerly granted by john lidderdale and elizabeth, his wife, to james anderson. signed: james anderson, margaret anderson, her mark. witnesses: william holt; alexander joyce; john robertson. in fact, here is the lunenburg co, va deed wherein john lidderdale, etc, sold this land to james anderson. lunenburg co, va deed book 1, page 304, 1748, alexander spalding, john lidderdale, and samuel gordon, merchants, to james anderson, spalding and lidderdale gave power of attorney, dated feb 6, 1744, to convey land by deed of about 504 acres, part of a tract of 16, 933 acres on ward's fork, which was patented to spalding and lidderdale on feb 4, 1744 and which lot is numbered 27 where the whole tract is divided into 34 lots. signed: john lidderdale; andrew spalding. witnesses: thomas jones; thomas vernon; james murphey. i have not focused futher on our james anderson/ margaret rodgers except there in lunenburg/ charlotte co, va. also, as the info re james anderson/ margaret rodgers' family states, this was also their anderson family, who, like our harris and carter family, also moved to cobb co, ga and also to benton, now calhoun/ cleburne co, al where they may have continued also to have been involved with my harris family, etc, in these areas. early on re my research on my harris family, i focused, of course, on these cobb/ paulding; benton/ calhoun/ cleburne cos, al areas but my focus for quite some time now has been to trace our harris family on back from these areas, which was, then, back to laurens co, sc and on back to this lunenburg/ mecklenburg cos, va, etc, area. again, per this info re the family of our james anderson/ margaret rodgers, this was george anderson/ 2nd wife, named miss lewis, who were the parents of david lewis anderson, who was the probate judge there in laurens co, sc for many years. also, george anderson's 3rd wife molly was mary/ molly saxon and this was the same saxon family, again, not only involved with my harris and rodgers families there in laurens co, sc, but, again, the saxons, like our harris family and the walker family, also trace back to new kent co, va. laurens co, sc deed book B, page 96, 1786, george anderson and wife, mary/ molly, to mariah goodman for 100 pds, 140 acres on both sides of norths creek bordered by james burnside, robert young, james cook, john milam, silvanus walker. witnesses: samuel wharton, charles sullivant. laurens co, sc deed book B, page 150, 1786, silvanus and sarah walker and james burnside of one part to frances lester and thomas wilkes of another part for 125 pds sterling, 110 acres on norths creek, grant to george anderson and authur spence, bordered on john milam, ----- hardy, thomas gafford, james burnside, mariah goodman. witnesses: samuel saxon, john williams, junr. again, besides sylvanus walker, jr, john middleton and john wait were also appraisers of my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers' 1800 laurens co, sc estate sale and both john middleton and the wait family inter-married with the family of our james and margaret rodgers anderson. From: < [email protected]> Subject: [ANDERSON-L] JAMES ANDERSON Date: Fri, 22 Jan 1999 12:30:30 EST A COLLECTION OF UPPER SOUTH CAROLINA GENEALOGICAL AND FAMILY RECORDS, Vol. 2, pages 11-12, discusses the following Anderson line: James Anderson, b. ? d. will filed in 1783 in Laurens Dist., SC, naming sons William, George, Andrew Anderson. The witnesses are Ro. Harris, George Clough & Alse Hix Imprimis: I be[queath] to my loving wife during her natural life the land and plantation whereon I now live likewise all my other estate, after her death, all the estate except the land to be equally divided among my children that shall be living at the time by this last wife, to wit- John, Betty, Anne, Ned, Patrick, Alse, Rosey, Damond and Molly King. Item: I give my said land and plantation after my wifes decease to my son John Harris and his heirs forever. It likewise is my desire that if my said son John should die leaving no lawful heir that the said land should go to the next oldest son living. I appoint my son John Exer and Mourning Harris, my wife Executrix in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 25th day of July 1770 Stephen Harris S. H. his mark Ro. Harris, Alse Hix, George Clough It is evident from this will made in 1770 that Stephen Harris was married twice and Mourning Harris was his second wife, who survived him. In 1782, Mourning Harris was charged with 150 acres of land in Hanover County, and in 1790 she was charged with nine white tithables. The plantation on which Stephen Harris lived passed to Mourning and then to her son John Harris, as willed. It was here that John Harris resided during his lifetime and at his death it passed to his son Solomon Harris. The 1850 census of Hanover County shows the family of Solomon Harris, aged 71; Elizabeth Harris, 71; Solomon King Harris, 34; Andrew J. Harris, 24; Elizabeth Harris, 16; and George Harris, 13. --------------------------------- On Mon, 1 Sep 2008 09:02:12 EDT [email protected] writes: There are at least two Group 8 families that consistently use the name Overton as a middle name; George Overton Harris George Harris Sr b ca 1758 of Hanover d May 1824 in Warren Co KY. Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: Dear Ms. Wallace, As I have mentioned before, "Overton" was also a frequent given name in my Harris family of Georgia (descendants of John Harris died 1826 and his wife Mary Fielder). It is the most common given name in that family. The second most common given name (considering most of the descendants were through daughters) was "Harris". As many will know (including yourself), this fact does not automatically guarantee an Overton connection. Even so, I, too, would be interested to see the Overton data you have (to supplement my own). Whether or not all or any of these various Harris families were genetically related to the Overtons of England, one thing at least is clear--they were all of them proud of the name, and wished to claim a relationship to them! again, as our patrick cunningham/ ann harris had served as a loyalist major, etc, in this 96th dist, sc area during the revolutionary war, he was banished from sc after the revolutionary war to west fla. he petitioned the state of sc to return and was granted the right to return and all of his land, etc, confiscated from him was also returned to him and those who had fought against him in the revolutionary war, like general andrew pickens, signed the petition for him to return. this was also our patrick and ann harris cunningham's grandaughter ann pamela cunningham, who was responsible for forming the society to restore and to preserve mt vernon. per these connections i want to continue to talk about re these connections re the sylvanus walker family with my harris family, etc, there in lunenburg co, va and on into laurens co, sc, all of these, who witnessed our patrick cunningham's 1796 laurens co, sc will, including memucan walker, had a lot more to do with my harris family than they did with patrick cunningham whose father, john cunningham, was in augusta co, va. as also shown, besides memucan walker, sarah clary also witnessed patrick cunningham's laurens co, sc will. sarah clary, was the widow of cornelius cargill, son of john cargill, sr/ rachel tinsley, who re-married samuel clary. some of this info states that sarah was a wilson, brother of this russell wilson but i can find absolutely no actual info that connect sarah with a russell wilson or the wilson family. instead, what all of this info indicates, to me, re these connections re the cargills with my harris and goode family, again, both there in this lunenburg co, va area and on into laurens co, sc, and by virtue of the fact that sarah cargill clary witnessed our patrick and ann harris cunningham's 1796 laurens co, sc will and is also shown to have also been involved with sylvanus walker and memucan walker, etc, that sarah cargill clary was not a wilson but a harris and also a sister of my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers and our ann harris cunningham, children of my/ our william harris, sr/ frances goode. here is the info on these connections. laurens co, sc deed book C, page 165, 1789, cornelius cargill, son and heir of cornelius cargill, decd, and samuel clary and wife, sarah, widow of cornelius cargill, decd, to silvanus walker, sr for 100 pds, 420 acres on the south side of the beaverdam creek of little river, part of two grants to said cornelius cargill, decd. witnesses: samuel wharton; silvanus walker, jr. george anderson, j.p. laurens co, sc deed book C, page 207, 1790, sarah clary and cornelius cargill to patrick cunningham for 77pds sterling one negro woman hannah about 25 and child lewis about 16 months. witnesses: memucan walker; richard duty. affidavit by hardy conant that a certain samuel clary had sold said negro woman and child to cornelius cargill about 6 weeks ago. jonathan downs, j.p. laurens co, sc deed book F, page 140, 1796, patrick cunningham and wife, ann, to john pinson for $25, 32 acres on the east side of the road from the laurens court house to swancey's ferry, part of 300 acre grant to richard carter, conveyed to his oldest son and heir, john carter. witnesses: memucan walker, howard pinson, john cunningham. george anderson, j.p. laurens co, sc will book A-1, page 153, will of patrick cunningham. 10/ 22/ 1796. legatees: wife, ann; 3 sons: john; william; and robert cunningham; robert to be schooled; lands on saluda and reedy river. executors: john and william cunningham. witnesses: lewis graves; memucan walker; sarah clary. again, a tax or memorial had to be paid on these sc grants in charleston and per info i have posted in the past, but to re-post, our mackerness goode, jr paid the tax/ memorial for cornelius cargill/ sarah's 400-acre grant. given that cornelius cargill/ sarah had these 400 acres in 1767 in laurens co, sc, and which was signed for by our mackerness goode, jr, indicates to me that cornelius cargill and sarah had already married before our harris; goode; and cargill families had moved from this lunenburg/ halifax cos, va area on into laurens co, sc. cornelius cargill/ sarah paid the tax/ memorial for my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers 150- acre grant and patrick cunningham paid the tax/ memorial for my william harris, sr/ frances goode's 300-acre grant. memorial by cornelius cargill, 400 acres on branch of little river called beaverdam branch......signed 6 dec 1767 by m. goode. john caldwell, d.s. memorial for william harris, junr; 300 acres in berkley county on a branch of little river called north's creek.....survey certified 1 sept 1772. quit rent to commence in 2 years. signed 15 jan 1773 by patrick cunningham. john caldwell, d.s. also, it was my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers, who, along with sarah and his uncle samuel goode, who also paid the security re the ca 1780, 96th dist, sc estate of cornelius cargill, which i have also posted previously. per the laurens co, sc deeds, to follow, my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers had a survey for land there in laurens co, sc with patrick cunningham/ ann harris which became a grant to my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers and patrick and ann harris cunningham's sons, john and robert cunningham which my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers, then, sold to their son john cunningham. also, these laurens co, sc deeds talk about this land that my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers had purchased for patrick and ann harris cunningham, which had been part of this land that had been confiscated. as shown, per these laurens co, sc deeds, my frances rodgers harris; my charles harris/ jane cannon; and sarah cargill clary, who, again, is definitely also indicated to have been a sister of my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers and our ann harris cunningham, all gave affidavits re this land my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers had purchased for patrick cunningham. laurens co, sc deed book F, page 441, 1798, william harris to john cunningham for $85, spanish milled, 200 acres on duncans creek and little river, all my part of 1796 survey to patrick cunningham and william harris for 500 acre grant to said william harris and john cunningham and robert cunningham. witnesses: elijah burgess, thomas redden. zach bailey, j.p., dower renunciation by wife, frances harris. i am going to come back and talk later about other info that relates to memucan hunt and his being involved with samuel harris, who, again, is shown to have been the same samuel harris also involved with thomas dendy and, of course, was the same samuel harris involved with both william harris/ judith hudson and my william harris, sr/ frances goode there in lunenburg co, va and who were all early in cornelius cargill's district, etc, but, for now, i want to continue to talk about these walker family connections with my harris family, etc. again, memucan walker, who witnessed our patrick cunningham's/ ann harris 1796 laurens co, sc will, and which i also have more to say about, was the son of sylvanus walker, son of tandy walker/ judith langford, and, as shown, memucan walker had also witnessed this laurens co, sc deed re our patrick and ann harris cunningham to john pinson. laurens co, sc deed book F, page 140, 1796, patrick cunningham and wife, ann, to john pinson for $25, 32 acres on the east side of the road from the laurens court house to swancey's ferry, part of 300 acre grant to richard carter, conveyed to his oldest son and heir, john carter. witnesses: memucan walker, howard pinson, john cunningham. george anderson, j.p. i want to talk about these connections because they show not only that patrick cunningham was involved there with the walkers and my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers, but that patrick cunningham was also involved with my carter family there in laurens co, sc. this was my richard carter, who had moved to laurens co, sc also ca 1770 from frederick co, va and this john carter, per this deed, was the brother of my robert carter, sr, whose son robert carter, jr was the father of my elizabeth carter harris, who married my arch harris, son of my charles harris/ jane cannon, ca 1826 and in laurens co, sc before my harris and carter families even moved to dekalb and gwinnett cos, ga in or by 1830. again, these pinson connections re both my charles harris and my carter family are also important and i am going to repeat these but, first, i want to talk about patrick cunningham and more also about his connections with my carter family. first of all, patick cunningham and his brothers john and robert cunningham, who also moved to this same laurens co, sc/ 96th dist, sc area, were the sons of john cunningham of tinkling springs, augusta co, va. this was also patrick cunningham's related cunningham family also in lunenburg/ charlotte co, va who, like my rodgers family, were part of these scot-irish presbyterian families, who had moved from lancaster co, pa to amelia/ lunenburg/ charlotte co, va with john caldwell, who established the noted colony on cubb creek which is now in charlotte co, va. whereas i cannot prove it per se, it it would definitely seem that it was per these connections re the cunninghams also with my harris family and my rodgers family, etc, in lunenburg/ charlotte cos, va, that patrick cunningham would have met and married our ann harris, sister of my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers, children of my william harris, sr/ frances goode. patrick cunningham and his brothers john and robert cunningham also served as loyalist leaders in this same laurens/ 96th dist, sc area during the revolutionary war. if the war between the states was a sad, bloody time with brother against brother, this 96th dist, sc area was also like this during the revolutionary war. info shows that my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers served as a captain in the revolutionary war there in laurens co, sc in col joseph hayes little river regiment. this was the same col hayes and others, again, also significantly involved with my harris family, etc, there in laurens co, sc, who were killed in the hayes station massacre there in laurens co, sc by bloody "bill" cunningham, who was a cousin of patrick cunningham and his brothers. also, per these laurens co, sc/ 96th dist, sc records, all of my richard carter's sons, except for my robert carter, sr, served with our major patrick cunningham/ ann harris and, like patrick cunningham's brother, robert cunningham, this was our richard carter's son james carter, who both also moved to hants co, nova scotia. in fact, our james carter gave patrick cunningham power of attorney re his selling his land in laurens co, sc. laurens co, sc deed book E, page 83, 1790/ 1793, james carter, formerly of 96th dist, sc and now of rawdon, hants co, nova scotia, to patrick cunningham and anthony golden of little river in laurens co, sc power of attorney to sell 225 acres on cain creek, 125 acres purchased from my father, richard carter, and 100 acres granted to me, to james nickles also of rawdon, hants co, nova scotia. witnesses: william dinsmore, thomas pearson. thomas pearson, j. p. hants co, nova scotia. this thomas peason also in hants co, nova scotia , who witnessed this deed re our james carter and who was also j.p., was col thomas pearson, who had also served in the revolutionary war as a loyalist in this 96th, dist/ union co, sc area. col thomas pearson was the son of enoch pearson, whose daugher tabitha pearson married my ancestor stacey cooper as his 1st wife. my stacy cooper married 2nd elizabeth townsend, daughter of john townsend/ elizabeth pearson sister of enoch pearson. stacy cooper/ elizabeth townsend were the parents of my james cooper/ rebecca darby, whose daughter ann cooper married my james harris, son of my arch harris/ elizabeth carter, in 1849 in cobb/ paulding co, ga. my coopers; my carters; my townsends; and my pearsons all trace back to these bucks co, pa/ chester co, pa, etc, quaker familes where it is shown, per the quaker records, that they knew and were involved with each other there. laurens co, sc deed book E, page 85, 1793, patrick cunningham, esq, and anthony golden, attorneys for james carter to james nickles for 100 pds, 125 acres on cain creek, part of a grant 6/ 25/1769 to richard carter conveyed to james carter by richard carter and wife, margaret, whereon richard carter formerly lived and bordered by robert carter and benjamin carter. witnesses: lewis saxon; william dunlap. john hunter, j.p. again, this same john pinson and his son, howard pinson, who our patrick and ann harris cunningham sold this land to on cain creek that bordered on my richard carter, and which was witnessed by memucan walker, was also very involved with my carter family and also with my charles harris/ jane cannon there in laurens co, sc. again, both my robert carter, sr and robert carter, jr witnessed john pinson's laurens co, sc will and, again, my charles harris/ jane cannon witnessed the laurens co, sc deed wherein john pinson sold land to his son, howard pinson, which bordered on my robert carter, sr and patrick cunningham. laurens co, sc will book D-1, page 46, 1811, john pinson, deceased, will proven by robert carter, sr and robert carter, jr; howard pinson and thomas pinson qualify as executors. Legatees: wife: betsy; sons: john; howard; thomas; and aaron pinson; son-in-laws: william strain; richard duty; cornelius puckett; thomas weathers; executors: sons: thomas and howard pinson. witnesses: robert carter, sr; robert carter, jr; richard puckett. laurens co, sc deed book H, page 247, 1807, john pinson to thomas pinson for $150, 130 acres on the west side of cain creek, bordered on robert carter, patrick cunningham, deceased, duty's spring branch. witnesses: charles harris; howard pinson. jonathan johnson, j.p. again, by 1830, my robert carter, jr; my charles harris/ jane cannon; and my arch harris/ elizabeth carter had moved to dekalb/ gwinnett cos, ga. again, whereas my charles harris was on the 1830 census for dekalb co, ga, my arch harris was living near my robert carter, jr in gwinnett co, ga. in 1832, my robert carter, jr; his 2nd wife, sarah mc daniel carter; my jane cannon harris, along with martin and mary peek ingram, etc, were charter members of the concord baptist church in cobb co, ga and in 1834, my charles harris/ jane cannon; my arch harris/ elizabeth carter; and my robert carter, jr/ sarah mc daniel were all on the ga state census for cobb co, ga, settling in cobb/ paulding cos, ga. this was also my charles harris/ jane cannon's daughter, and sister of my arch harris, lucinda harris who married james carter, brother of my elizabeth carter harris and son also of my robert carter, jr, ca 1834 in cobb co, ga. so, besides these connections that memucan walker had with our patrick and ann harris cunningham and that he and sarah cargill clary had witnessed our patrick cunningham/ ann harris 1796 laurens co, sc will, etc, what these laurens co, sc deeds and records also show is that my/ our harris family would have known and been involved with my carter family there in laurens co, sc, per both their connections with our patrick and ann harris cunningham, a long time before my harris and carter familes ever moved from laurens co, sc to dekalb and gwinnett cos, ga. to be continued: belva harris cauthen harris dna group 8-------26910
again, the same memucan walker, who became the guardian for sylvanus walker, son of tandy walker/ judith langford of lunenburg co, va, and who also moved to laurens co, sc and whose sons sylvanus walker, jr and memucan walker were involved there with my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers and his brother-in-law, patrick cunningham, also had a patent in lunenburg co, va with samuel harris. this was the same samuel harris, who, along with my william harris, sr/ frances goode; my mackerness goode, sr; william harris/ judith hudson; peter hudson, sr, etc, were all on these early lunenburg co, va tithe lists in cornelius cargill's district. this was the same samuel harris who, as shown, continued to be very involved with john cargill, sr/ rachel tinsley in the halifax co, va area who, then, also by 1770 had moved to laurens co, sc and whose cargill family, per info i have posted in the past, continued to be very and significantly involved with my harris and goode family in laurens co, sc. in fact, and as shown, the same thomas dendy, who sylvanus walker, jr, and who memucan hunt became his guardian, had the suit with, was the same thomas dendy who samuel harris had also sold land to which was witnessed by john cargill, sr/ rachel tinsley, etc and who witnessed a number of deeds re samuel harris in this halifax co, va area. lunenburg co, va deed book 2, page 239, 1750, samuel harris of lunenburg co, va to john lucas of same for 25 pds, 234 acres bounded by cargill, staunton river. signed: samuel harris. witnesses: cornelius cargill; richard jones; thomas dendy. lunenburg co, va deed book 5, page 440, 1759, samuel harris of antrim parish halifax co, va to thomas dendy of cornwall parish lunenburg co, va for 2000 pds nett tobacco 252 acres on the north side of the staunton river, which had been a patent to samuel harris on april 5, 1748. signed: saml harris. witnesses: william harris; john cargill; daniel cargill. lunenburg co, va deed book 5, page 496, 1759, samuel harris of halifax co, va to thomas morris of brunswick co, va for 170 lbs a certain tract in lunenburg on the north side of the staunton river, being granted to the said samuel harris by 2 patents dated 1748, one of the patents being for 404 acres, the other for 353 acres, being about 757 acres, bounded by col byrd; munford; cargill; stith. wit: john cargill; john speed, jr; thomas dendy; john cargill, jr. lunenburg co, va deed book 5, page 471, 1759, samuel harris of halifax co, va to james flynn of lunenburg co, va for 12 lbs a certain tract of land of 450 acres in lunenburg co, va on the southside of the great bluestone creek bounded by john tomson, byrd, and it was laid off by william sims, surveyor, for about 450 acres. wit: john cargill; john speed, jr; john cargill, jr; thomas dendy. of course, this is/ was also the same samuel harris, who william harris/ judith hudson sold the island/ plantation to, which, again, was also witnessed by john cargill, sr/ rachel tinsley and william hunt, who is indicated to have been also related to memucan hunt and possibly his brother. per info i have posted in the past, it was my william harris, sr/ frances goode who also sold land to this same william hunt in this same middle fork of the middle bluestone creek area where, again, it is stated that this was where my william harris, sr/ frances goode lived and where they are shown to have consistently bought and sold land. lunenburg co, va deed book 2, page 57, 1750, william harris of lunenburg to samuel harris of same for 60 pds, grants 1 island/ plantation of 70 acres, having been a patent to william harris april 5, 1748 and bounded by the staunton river and between byrd's and cargill's islands. signed: william harris. witnesses: john cargill, william hunt. judith, wife of william harris, relinquished her right of dower. lunenburg co, va deed book 4, page 315, 1755, william harris of lunenburg co, va to william hunt of same for 33 pds, 236 acres on both sides of the middle fork of the bluestone creek, bounded by the swamp, miller. signed: william harris. witnesses: adam winders; richard palmer; robert wooding. again, like our harris family and the cargills, this same thomas dendy family, who intermarried with the cargills, also moved to laurens co, sc and as shown, per these deeds for sylvanus walker, sr and jr in laurens co, sc, the dendy's land, again, like the ca 1770 grants for my william harris, sr/ frances goode and my william harris/ jr/ frances rodgers was also on north's creek of little river. laurens co, sc deed book A, page 104, 1785, thomas dendy and wife, mary, to robert hall for 50 pds sterling 300 acres on norths creek in fork of broad and saludy rivers bordered on cornelius tinsley. witnesses: silvanus walker; SE by william harris, sr. survery certified 26 feb 1767, john caldwell, district surveyor. here again is the lunenburg co, va patent re samuel harris and memucan hunt, which i have also talked about previously. besides the fact that it bordered on my goode family and john wilborn and that, again, it was this same bluestone creek/ woodpecker creek area where my william harris, sr/ frances goode and william harris/ judith hudson both lived, the patent involved this benjamin hatcher who traces back to the hatcher family also of henrico co, va. again, since memucan hunt and samuel harris did not pay quit rents, etc on the land it was re-patented to benjamin hatcher. per info i have also posted previously, this benjamin hatcher of lunenburg co, va traces also back to henrico co, va to the same hatcher family re an uncle benjamin hatcher, who was the attorney when our edward harris, son of our major william harris/ alice, who remarried george alvis and george alvis, sold land of our major william harris there in henrico co, va. from wiggins': harris papers: lunenburg co, va: land patents and grants: whereas memucan hunt and samuel harris patented 3,750 acres on the bluestone creek september 6, 1757 and as they, and alexander robertson and his wife, martha, in whom the rights became vested have not cultivated it nor paid quit rents, and as benjamin hatcher has petitioned the court for the land, it is now granted to benjamin hatcher; bounded by a line on mitchell's corner on woodpecker fork on evans line to goode's corner to cargill's road to worsham's line to miller's line and john wilborn's corner to the land of robert southern and back to the beginning of the woodpecker fork. Pages 110-111 have several notices: "p. 173 George Alvis of New Kent Co., planter, for £18, to Timothy Allen of Henrico Co., planter, tract on south side of James River called 'The Ware,' bounded by Hon. again, sylvanus walker/ sarah blagrave or cargill, who moved to laurens co, sc and whose sons sylvanus walker, jr was an appraiser of my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers 1800 laurens co, sc estate sale and whose son memucan walker witnessed our patrick cunningham/ ann harris' 1796 laurens co, sc will, was the son of tandy walker/ judith langford, who both died ca 1750 in lunenburg co, va. sylvanus walker, who was called sylvanus walker, jr there in lunenburg co, va because his uncle sylvanus walker had also moved to lunenburg co, va, chose memucan hunt as his guardian per the following info. also as shown, there was some suit involving thomas dendy. first of all, samuel harris and memucan hunt also had a grant there together in lunenburg co, va in this very same bluestone/ woodpecker creek area where both my william harris, sr/ frances goode and william harris/ judith hudson are shown and stated to have lived. in fact, the grant says that it was not only on the corner of my goode family but that it also was on the corner of john wilborn. again, both my william harris, sr/ frances goode and william harris/ judith hudson were involved with the will and estate of john wilborn from 1757-1762 there in lunenburg co, va. first, here is the info showing that sylvanus walker, son of tandy walker/ judith langford, chose memucan hunt as his guardian and that there was some suit involving thomas dendy. 1754, Feb Court. Silvanus Walker orphan of Tandy Walker, dec'd, came into court and (being of lawful age for that purpose) made choice of Memucan Hunt to be his guardian who is accordingly appointed (he giving security) whereupon he together with Thomas Anderson his security, entered into & acknowledge their bond and that purpose. for some reason the info i posted recently on these connections re the walker family and my harris family also from lunenburg co va on into laurens co, sc and which i also wanted to continue to talk about, did not show up for me as having been posted. actually, now, as i have just discovered, it is being posted to me. i inadvertently found that it had been posted on harris hunters but, again, i had received no emails saying that it was posted. i don't understand the lag but am glad to finally get the emails saying that it is being posted. per the info and like our harris family, the info on these rootsweb sites shows that the walker family also traced back to new kent/ hanover also to henrico co, va. of course, we would know a lot more about our harris families, as well as these connections with them, if so many of these va records had not been destroyed. here, though, is info from this rootsweb site, stating that sylvanus walker/ ann tandy of new kent co, va was the son of this william walker/ elizabeth warren of henrico co, va. i cannot confirm this info myself and my present interest is in these connections re the walkers with my harris family and/ or other of these same individuals and families again both there in lunenburg co, va and on into laurens co, sc and which i am also going to continue to talk about. : "Nancy Jankowski" < [email protected]> Subject: [VA-SOUTHSIDE-L] Lankford-Warren Date: Tue, 1 Sep 1998 07:02:11 -0700 Can anyone help me find the maiden name of Frances Warren's wife Elizabeth? Fluvanna County Marriages 1781-1849, John Vogt & T. William Kethley, Jr., Iberian Publish. Co. 1984 "Fluvanna County was established in 1777, during the Revolutionary War, out of a 185 square mile portion of Albemarle County. The Latin term for the county's name means 'Anne's River', in honor of Queen Anne of England. This was the term given by early cartographers to the upper reaches of the James River. By the end of the Revolution, the community of Point of Fork was an important state arsenal for western garrisons. Here also Baron von Steuben trained recruits for Greene's army in the South. At Bremo in Fluvanna County is the home of John Hartwell Cocke, built after plans made by Thomas Jefferson. Cocke was a prominent figure for his time and was associated in the founding of the University of Virginia." In a message dated 9/1/2008 12:04:21 P.M. Pacific Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: _http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cramsey/madco_a.html_ (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cramsey/madco_a.html) Thanks, Mary Alice, I had not discovered this URL, and I am thankful you brought it to my attention. Burgin is NOT a surname I am familiar with. I know a Burgin married into the Harris family. However, under the list of marriages for Burgins, Nancy Burgin is married to Benjamin Hams. Wrong!!! The surname is Harris. I understand the difficulty of reading old handwriting. However, as I read old Madison Co., deeds, I knew somehow the Tevis family was related, to some degree, with the extended Harris family. As stated Nancy Burgin married Benjamin Harris, but after Benjamin's death, she married Nathaniel Tevis. Here is what I copied from the URL you cited: Burgin, Nancy Hams, Benjamin [Book] 03 Jun 14 1792 Here is some information from notes I have made about Nancy Burgin. Appar ently she had three marriages. No wonder we cannot find our females--name changes!!!! It is helpful to read court records, deeds, guardianship papers when we can find them, etc. Censuses are NOT enough, as we old-timers know. Rev 12/03 NANCY BURGIN. WIR02115 Daughter of Dennis Burgin. She married Benjamin Harris, son of the elder Christopher Harris 12 June 1792, Higgarson [Higgason] Harris, being the bondsman. (Bill & Kathy Vockery, MADISON COUNTY KENTUCKY MARRIAGES, Vol. I [Richmond, KY: Privately published, 1993], p. 37) Benjamin apparently did not live too long after the marriage, dying before Oct 1795. By 1797, Nancy Harris had remarried to Nathaniel Tivis/Tevis. This marriage appears in Vockery & Vockery, MARRIAGES OF MADISON CO., KY: Nathaniel Tevis & Nancy Harris (Burgin scratched out), 15 Aug 1797; Thomas Burgin, bondsman; Dennis Burgin, father of bride (consent). The following court record verifies that Nancy is the widow of Benjamin Harris: 3 Oct 1797: A relinquishment of dower between Nancy Tivis [sic], widow and relict of Benjamin Harris, deceased to Evans Watson was ordered recorded. (Jackie Couture, MADISON COUNTY, KENTUCKY COURT ORDER BOOK B, 1791-1801 [Bowie, MD: Heritage Books, Inc., 2000], p. 196). Apparently, Nancy Burgin Harris Tevis was again widowed shortly after the above marriage, unless there was another Nathaniel Tevis in Madison Co. There is another court record: 2 Oct 1798: The last will and testament of Nathaniel Tivis, deceased was proved by John Sappington, Robert Raburn and Edward Davis and ordered recorded. On the motion of Robert Tivis and John Wheeler the executors therein named a certificate is granted them for obtaining probate, whereupon they entered into bond with James Hendricks as security. It is ordered that John Strawhorn, Thomas Clay, Hartley and John Sappington or any three inventory and appraise the estate and make report. (Ibid., p. 224-225) On 25 Oct 1808, it seems Nancy (Burgin) (Harris) Tevis again married: William Raburn and Nancy Tevis, 25 Oct 1808; Thomas Tevis, bondsman. (Vockery & Vockery, V. I, p. 67) Nancy seems to have at least one child, Polly, by Benjamin Harris. Madison Co. i have talked previously on harris hunters about the significant connections john cargill, sr/ rachel tinsley and the cargills had with my harris and goode family there in this lunenburg/ halifax cos, va as well as on into laurens co, sc. now, i also want to talk about the significant connections re the walker family, again, both there in this lunenburg co, va area and on into laurens co, sc re my harris family, etc. i have been trying to get this all together and to talk about all of this on harris hunters for some time now but it is all very involved and entails such a lot both in terms of things i have talked about in the past and still want to talk about that i am having a difficult time in totally organizing and getting it together to talk about. so, i am going to go ahead and start putting this info on harris hunters and talk about things and apologize that i do not have all of this as organized and "all-together" as i would like. one of the appraisers of my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers 1800 laurens co, sc estate sale was sylvanus walker, jr. he was the son of silvanus walker, sr of laurens co, sc, who had been called sylvanus walker, jr in lunenburg co, va, but he was the son of tandy walker/ judith said to have been a langford, who both died 1750/ 1752 in lunenburg co, va. tandy walker's brother sylvanus walker had also moved to lunenburg co, va and he was called sylvanus walker, sr there. he died, per the info, in 1785 in mecklenburg co, va. the only one of tandy walker/ judith langford's children old enough to ask for his own guardian was their son sylvanus walker, who, again, was called sylvanus walker, jr and who asked that memucan hunt be his guardian. then, this sylvanus walker, son of tandy walker/ judith langford, named his son memucan walker after his guardian memucan hunt. memucan walker moved with his father sylvanus walker, jr in lunenburg co, va, who became sylvanus walker, sr in laurens co, sc and his brother sylvanus walker, jr, also to laurens co, sc. besides the fact that sylvanus walker, jr was one of the appraisers of my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers 1800 laurens co, sc estate, these laurens co, sc deeds and records, which i will cite, show that memucan walker witnessed a number of laurens co, sc deeds re our patrick and ann harris cunningham and, in fact, memucan walker witnessed patrick cunningham's 1796 laurens co, sc will. again, ann harris cunningham b ca 1747 in va, which would have been in lunenburg co, va, wife of patrick cunningham, is definitely indicated to have been the sister of my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers born ca 1746/ 1748, children of my william harris, sr/ frances goode, who were in lunenburg co, va by 1746. again, these connections re the walkers and these same families, which, of course, included my/ our harris family, is a lot more involved period and i consider these connections to be very relevant and significant, which, again, is why i would like to post and talk about them on harris hunters. in looking at the info on the walkers, there seems to be some confusion as to who sylvanus walker, son of tandy walker/ judith langford married. some of the info says that he married sarah blagrave, who was the sister of anna blagrave who married jeremiah glenn. again, it was jeremiah glenn/ anna blagrave; micajah smithson; and john marable, who witnesses the 1765 mecklenburg co, va deed wherein my william harris, sr/ frances goode sold land on the middle fork of the bluestone creek to james hall. again, james hall also moved to and died in edgefield co, sc and he was involved there with the same burt family, who also were involved there in edgefield co, sc with my same goode family and, again, matthew burt had also moved there from lunenburg co, va. again, this was james hall's son-in-law richard winn, who was involved with the ca 1796 mecklenburg co, va estate of judith hudson harris and, again, these connections re james hall and his uncle stephen evans, sr with my harris and goode family in lunenburg co, va are also a lot more involved. jeremiah glenn/ anna blagrave also moved to laurens co, sc and their son william glenn was involved there with my charles harris/ jane cannon per laurens co, sc deeds i have also posted in the past. other of the info also says that sylvanus walker, son of tandy walker/ judith, married sarah hogan cargill. i know that sylvanus walker, sr's wife's name in laurens co, sc was sarah but i do not know whether she was a cargill or a blagrave but what i do know is that, again, these were the same cargill and walker families significantly involved with my harris and goode families, etc, not just there in lunenburg co, va, but also on into laurens co, sc and these connections are a lot more involved and entail a lot more which i am also going to talk about. first i am going to cite these laurens co, sc deeds and, then, come back and talk about or elaborate on these connections. to be continued: belva harris cauthen harris dna group 8--------26910

Thanks again for all your selfless, dedicated work on behalf of us all. T.J.
