again, i cannot explain other than the fact that mumford/ munford was a popular person or name at the time why sarah's ancestor claiborne harris would have named a son mumford harris. the fact that sarah did have an ancestor named claiborne harris and, again, her interest also in william harris/ judith hudson, led me to hope that her cousin might be harris dna match with my brother david harris. obviously, that did not pan out and a lot of this re our searches re our harris families continues to be confusing and a puzzle. again, this is, per the records, both my william harris, sr/ frances goode and my william harris/ judith hudson, etc, were living in lunenburg co, va in 1749/ 1750 in cornelius cargill's district and this cornelius cargill was the father of john cargill, sr/ rachel tinsley. again, per the records, my william harris, sr/ frances goode; my william, harris, jr/ frances rodgers, along with my mackerness goode, sr and his son, our mackerness goode, jr; john cargill, sr/ rachel tinsley; their son, cornelius cargill, wife, sarah, all obtained ca 1770 grants in laurens co, sc. again, a tax/ memorial had to be paid on these grants in laurens co, sc and our mackerness goode, jr paid the tax/ memorial for cornelius cargill/ sarah's 1767, 400-acre grant and cornelius cargill/ sarah paid the tax/ memorial for my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers' 150-acre grant there in laurens co, sc. again, it was my william harris, sr/ frances goode who in 1746 in lunenburg co, va was the overseer for william marable's plantation, finneywood. william marable was the father of matthew marable. again, in 1750 in lunenburg co, va, a suit ensued re my william harris, sr/ frances goode with william marable and my mackerness goode, sr, along with other of my goode family, including, also, samuel goode, brother-in-law of my william harris, sr/ frances goode, gave depositions re this suit. again, our samuel goode married some time before 1750 jemimah davenport, daughter of joseph davenport, who was in granville co, nc and who, like my harris and goode family, etc, also moved to this laurens / newberry cos, sc area. again, it was my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers and his uncle samuel goode, who, along with sarah, widow of cornelius cargill, paid the security re the estate of cornelius cargill in 1781 in this 96th dist/ laurens co, sc area. again, this cornelius cargill/ sarah was the son of john cargill, sr/ rachel tinsley of lunenburg/ halifax co, va who pat has just mentioned again with some connections also re the munfords there in lunenburg co, va. the strong ties cornelius cargill/ sarah had with my harris and goode family both there in this lunenburg/ halifax cos, va area on into laurens co, sc leads me to believe that sarah was a sister of my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers and also a daughter of my william harris, sr/ frances goode. some of the info does say that sarah was a harris but other info says she was the daughter of this russell wilson of edgefield co, sc. the fact that she was the daughter of this russell wilson is based on some story told re an event that supposedly happened during the revolutionary war in laurens co, sc. all i can say to you pat or to sarah is that my research is based on the records and what this info has shown to me based on these records. again, there continues to be a lot of this re our harris families, and it seems at times in particular my harris line and family, that continues to somehow be challenged and/ or confused, etc, and, again, i can only hope that these issues whatever they are will be totally resolved at some point. belva harris cauthen harris dna group 8------26910
hi sarah of course, we have corresponded in the past and based on your own interest in william harris/ judith hudson, i had hoped that we would be a harris dna match. we are not. in regard to the dna, obviously, we cannot go around digging people up and in most instances we would not even know where to find them. what a person is matching with re their dna is with someone in the dna group, who has a good and solid paper trail back to ones original and/ or earliest ancestor. in our harris dna group 8/ captain thomas harris line and family, this would be the line of our david harris/ jane landy richardson, who is stated, per a louisa co, va deed, to have been the son of our william harris/ mary giles, who obtained these 400 acres on cubb creek in 1725 in hanover co, va. it is, again, our william harris/ mary giles and his brother edward harris, who are also stated to have been the sons of our major william harris, 2nd wife, alice, who remarried george alvis, and our major william harris was the son of our captain thomas harris 1611 of jamestown. except for the fact that your ancestor was named "mumford" harris and there was a william mumford, who was paid for a debt by the estate of judith hudson harris in 1798 in mecklenburg co, va, do you have any evidence at all that your mumford harris and/ or your claiborne harris were related to william harris/ judith hudson or that any of their harris family had moved to anson co, nc? names can indicate kinship but, again, they also are not proof of kinship. it has to be remembered that "sherwood"; "claiborne" and, perhaps even "munford/ mumford" were popular men in their day and people were named for them either because they or the names were popular at that time and do not mean, again, that all of these sherwoods; claibornes, etc, were related. again, it is my william harris, sr/ frances goode and my goode family, who are shown to have been significantly involved with william harris/ judith hudson and these same individuals and families early there in lunenburg/ mecklenburg cos, va. again, there is this 1750 dodson survey for this land on wynn creek for william harris, sr and william harris, jr, which confirms that my william harris, sr/ frances goode was the son, william, of my william harris/ judith hudson. i am not, of course, focusing on harris dna group 4 but, perhaps, and hopefully, someone who is part of harris dna group 4 could help you with info re your claiborne harris and your mumford harris and/ or give you some ideas of relatedness and connections. i hope one of these days we are going to get this all straight re our various harris lines and families per our harris dna and the records! belva harris cauthen harris dna group 8------26910
My male relatives have tested into a new group, 30. I believe that the only practical value of DNA testing is that if you can establish your male relative has a nearly perfect 25 or 37-marker DNA match with another Harris AND you can establish the identity of the common ancestor, then it would be possible to take advantage of their research, if it is well documented. It is also possible that the joint research undertaken to find the common ancestor could benefit the genealogical research of both participants by suggesting new areas of investigation. Not a ringing endorsement, but .... Hi Belva and list, It has been suggested that I also descend from the Harris DNA group 8. HOWEVER, although my Capt William Harris married one Mary Hudson (and possibly an Elizabeth as well), and that this Capt Wm Harris fought in the Revolutionary War enlisting from Louisa County, VA but was married in Goochland County, VA (according to the Douglas Register) do you or anyone on this list have ANY clue who his parents are or could be? Mary Hudson's parents are NOT Peter Hudson or John and Elizabeth Harris Hudson as the dates are all off. My Capt. William Harris is generally referred to as part of the Hickory Creek Harrises. I have been rather curious as to how DNA could get one back further than we KNOW for sure (short of digging people up and checking their DNA). For instance: Through family records and deeds along with census records that match with what is known for sure about the children, I have traced my Claiborne Harris to Anson Co. N. C. I have suspected that he could possibly have been the son of William Harris and Judith Hudson but since I don't know for sure and nobody knows for sure what their DNA was and there are many people of the same name (William) who also could have had a wife Judith how do I know that the Claiborne that was their son is mine. My cousin had the DNA test and it put us in the Group 4. I communicated with a man who was 4 but found no connection to my Claiborne. The other Claibornes that I have run across do not have the same wife or are not in the same time frame as mine. Through the census and the birth date of a son who may be the firstborn son I have determined that my Claiborne could have been born between 1760-65 and probably married in the early 1780's. The son Mumford Monroe was born in 1786-7. So far I haven't found a marriage date for Claiborne and his wife Alice Young Hill. There are so many Roberts, Johns and Williams that a lot of people claim to be descended from (at least the well documented ones) my question is how does one KNOW that the famous name is their ancestor.? here is a post by vikky wilburn also showing this james gresham's connections with the page; rice; wilburn, etc, families there in goochland co, va. i have corresponded briefly with vikky wilburn in the past. in fact, about the time i came on line, she asked me if i could identify the john wilborn/ wilburn, who, again, was significantly involved with both my william harris, sr/ frances goode and my william harris/ judith hudson there in lunenburg co, va. again, i cannot but i do agree with her that there is probable kinship re our john wilborn, wife, judith, of lunenburg co, va and this richard wilburn of goochland co, va. again, as shown, per this post by vikky, richard wilburn purchased land from john page, who is the same page family involved with sherwood harris, son of william harris of goochland co, va, and this deed was witnessed by james gresham. as also shown, richard wilburn also lived near charles rice there in goochland co, va. again, our edward harris, son of our william harris/ mary giles, sold 50 acres in louisa co, va to william harris, who, again, was the same william harris/ mary of hanover, louisa, and goochland cos, va, who, then, sold these same 50 acres to this charles rice. again, my william harris/ judith hudson, per brunswick co, va deed, in 1743 sold to stephen harris of st martin's parish, hanover co, va land also in louisa co, va. again, the land our edward harris sold to this william harris of goochland co, va and the land my william harris/ judith hudson sold to stephen harris of hanover co, va were recorded on the very same date in the louisa co, va court records. WILBURN-L ArchivesArchiver > WILBURN > 2002-10 > 1034461618 From: "Vikky Anders" < [email protected]> Subject: [WILBURN-L] Richard Wilburn of Goochland, VA c 1750 Date: Sat, 12 Oct 2002 15:26:58 -0700 The following is info that I have gleamed re: Richard Wilburn of Goochland, VA It appears likely that he was married to Ann Whitlock and that his people lived in Middlesex Co VA c 1727. Many records in Christ Church Parish show names of families that Wilburns later married into. (families who lived in Middlesex, VA c 1700-1730. Margaret Wilburn m Paul Philpott in Middlesex Co VA in 1727 And this no doubt explains why there were later generations of people named Wilburn Philpott. Elizabeth Wilburn m Robert Guttery in Middlesex Co VA in 1728. There were later Wilburn/Guttery marriages...one in Amherst Co VA in 1778. The latter appears to be a grandson of Richard and Ann Whitlock Wilburn... Note: there was also a Wilburn Whitlocks from VA. (By 1850, Lewis Whitlock was living in the home of Burrell Wilburn of Carter KY)...This is just one example of what I mean by families who continued to marry into each others lines for hundreds of years... Wm Wilburn, son of Richard Wilburn and whatsherface?? Hughes (I think her name might have been Suzannah) m Eda Guttery...Wm and Eda later settled into Giles, VA on Sugar Run Mountain and Wolfe Creek...(now known as Wilburn Valley) near Pearisberg. Wm also had a brother named Richard.. Back to Richard Wilburn who married Ann Whitcock and later died in debt in Goochland, VA in 1756. In 1743, Richard Wilburn was living in Lousia Co VA near South Anna River...his property bordered on Ragland's line...which might explain why there was also a Wilburn Ragland... John Page also lived in Lousia Co VA...and he sold land to Richard Wilburn that was located on Lickinghole Creek in Goochland, VA...The deed was recorded on 19 Mar 1750 for 100 acres of land adjoining the lands of Turner Christian, Charles Toney, Thomas Stark and John Layne. It was witnessed by Wm Williams, Giles Letcher and James Gresham. Richard also lived very near Charles Rice...Charles Rice died in Goochland, VA in 1785. Please note names in his will: Wife: Mary sons--Charles, BASIL, TANDY, WM and Holman dau...Molly TRICE witness to his will were: Daniel and Wm Borman... We also know that there were many Rice/Wilburn marriages. Hence Rice Wilburn...there must be at least four or five Rice Wilburns... I cite this due to kinships of neighbors....just about everyone who lived near anyone did so because of kinships... One can see this from those who signed Richard Wilburn land deed. His son Thomas Wilburn m Christian Page... There was also a Wilburn/Toney marriage in Powhaton co VA too... Not all Wilburns with roots in VA descend from Richard Wilburn and Ann Whitlock Wilburn... There was also a John Wilburn who m Suzannah Preston c 1740 in VA. I suspect (not proven that This John and Richard were brothers.) And I think (that he might be the John Wilburn who later died in Lunenburg, VA in 1757..) Dunno??? In fact, there were a number of other Wilburn famlies of this era who lived in VA...And I am convinced that they were all related...Not everyone agrees with this contention. I cannot prove that they were, and those who disagree cannot prove that they were not...And that's it from San Diego. But for those of you who do have some Goochland, VA ties...then think Pocahontas and her family...because we surely have some kinships. belva harris cauthen harris dna group 8--------26910
another clue that this william harris of goochland co, va and his sons, sherwood harris, gilliam harris, may have been the son of our william harris/ mary giles' brother, edward harris, are these gresham connections not only with this william harris and families there in goochland co, va, but also this was the same gresham family also involved with edward harris' family in amelia co, va. this info in the gresham family can be found on line: EDWARD SR BUYS LAND IN NEW KENT CO Va IN 1687. IF THERE IS AN EDWARD SR THEN THERE IS AN EDWARD JR. EDWARD, GEORGE, THOMAS AND JOHN HEAD OF HOUSEHOLDS IN KING AND QUEEN CO VA IN 1704. EDWARD AND THOMAS ARE SURELY CHILDREN OF THE ORIGINAL EDWARD FROM ENGLAND AND THIS EDWARD IS EDWARD JR. THE FIRST BORN OF EDWARD SR (ORIGINAL IMMIGRANT) IS ALMOST SURELY EDWARD JR. THERE ARE NO OTHER GRESHAM HEAD OF HOUSEHOLDS IN VA AT THIS TIME BECAUSE NONE OF THE GRESHAM CHILDREN ARE OLD ENOUGH TO BE HEAD OF HOUSEHOLDS. THOMAS WAS BORN ABOUT 1660 AND EDWARD JR PROBABLY ABOUT 1655-57 BUT HE COULD BE OLDER. THOMAS' CHILDREN WERE CHARLES b 1687, THOMAS b 1689, JOHN b 1692, FRANCES b 1695 AND AMEY b 1700. NONE OF THESE ARE OLD ENOUGH TO BE HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD IN 1704 AND ARE NOT OLD ENOUGH TO BE FATHER TO EDWARD GRESHAM OF AMELIA CO VA. THE FACT THAT JOHN AND GEORGE HAD NO CHILDREN THAT WERE HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD 1704 PROBABLY MEANS THAT THEY WERE CHILDREN OF EDWARD JR AND NOT EDWARD THE ORIGINAL IMMIGRANT. ONE ENIGMATIC INDIVIDUAL WAS CHRISTOPHER GRESHAM. IN VOLUME III OF THE VA PATENT BOOKS (RESEARCHED BY LORETTA WRIGHT), THOMAS WARE PAID THOMAS GRESHAM AND CHRISTOPHER GRESHAM MONEY OWED, IN 1702. THIS AT LEAST LINKS CHRISTOPHER WITH A THOMAS GRESHAM THOUGH NOT NECESSARILY EDWARDS BROTHER.. > EDWARD JR AND THOMAS (SONS OF THE ORIGINAL IMMIGRANT) BOTH SEEM TO HAVE MARRIED OR AT LEAST HAD CHILDREN LATE IN LIFE. I THINK THERE JUST WERE NOT ENOUGH (OR SUITABLE) WOMEN AVAILABLE IN THE LATE 1600's IN VIRGINIA. IF EDWARD JR WAS INDEED BORN BEFORE THOMAS THEN ONE OF EDWARD JR's CHILDREN, JOHN OR GEORGE IS OUR ANCESTOR BECAUSE IF THOMAS (SON OF ORIGINAL IMMIGRANT) IS YOUNGER THAN EDWARD JR, THEN EDWARD JR WOULD HAVE TO HAVE BEEN AROUND 60 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER AND THOSE CHILDREN OTHER THAN THOMAS' CHILDREN SURELY BELONGED TO JOHN OR GEORGE. THIS WOULD PUT TROY'S GEORGE (MARRIED SARAH) AND EDWARD (FATHER OF ARCHIBALD & DAVIS) SR's FATHER AS BROTHERS OR MORE PROBABLY FIRST COUSINS. MOST IMPORTANTLY SINCE THERE WERE NO OTHER HEADS OF HOUSEHOLD OTHER THAN JOHN & GEORGE, THEN ANY GRESHAMS BORN AROUND THAT TIME (1700) ARE THEIR CHILDREN. GEORGE GRESHAM BORN ca 1707 m SARAH MAY 10, 1732, STAYED IN KING AND QUEEN CO BECAUSE HIS CHILDREN WERE BORN THERE.. HE IS SURELY THE SON OF THE ORIGINAL GEORGE. IT SEEMS THAT ALL JOHN GRESHAM'S CHILDREN LEFT KING & QUEEN CO AND INDEED JOHN MAY HAVE LEFT BEFORE ANY OF HIS CHILDREN WERE OLD ENOUGH TO LEAVE HOME. CANDIDATES FOR JOHN'S CHILDREN ARE MARY GRESHAM LEE b 1705 LEAVES WILL. IT WAS EXECUTED BY HER BROTHER JOHN GRESHAM. MARY AND JOHN WERE CHILDREN OF JOHN OR GEORGE AND JOHN WAS THE BETTER BET. MARY AND HER HUSBAND RICHARD HENRY LEE MOVED TO GOOCHLAND BEFORE THEIR SECOND CHILD WAS BORN. ******************************************************************** JAMES GRESHAM b 1704 LIVED IN GOOCHLAND AT THIS SAME TIME AND THEY MAY HAVE MOVED THERE TO BE CLOSE TO KIN. JAMES GRESHAM'S CHILDREN ARE WILLIAM, THOMAS, JAMES AND JOHN. *********************************************************************** ANOTHER CANDIDATE FOR JOHN'S CHILD IS ROBERT GRESHAM. EDWARD AND ROBERT GRESHAM LIVED IN AMELIA CO VA. ON HARRIS CREEK BY GREEN FAMILY. ROBERT MAY BE THE BEST BET TO BE EDWARD'S FATHER BECAUSE THEY LIVED SO CLOSE TOGETHER AND HE DID NOT GO TO ORANGE NC PROBABLY BECAUSE HE DIED. THEREFORE WE ARE LOOKING FOR GRESHAMS BORN AROUND +1705. THERE IS ANOTHER GRESHAM FAMILY IN GOOCHLAND AT THIS TIME. THEY WERE DECENDED FROM JOHN SON OF THOMAS SON OF THE ORIGINAL IMMIGRANT. ONE CHILD WAS JAMES GRESHAM b 1746 IN GOOCHLAND VA, DIED JUNE O1, 1807 IN WILKES CO GA. HE MARRIED 1ST TABITHA MARSHAL. HE MARRIED 2ND MARY CHRISTIAN DEC 19, 177O IN , GOOCHLAND VA. here again, as i say, is another post by dolores rutherford re sherwood harris', son of william harris of goochland co, va and his connections with her page family. she also makes reference to an older sherwood harris, who had also been there in goochland co, va and who had also moved to granville co, nc. this is indicated to have been sherwood harris/ jane hudspeth. perhaps, at some point, we need to review the info again on all of these sherwood harrises. i cannot say totally who was which sherwood harris or if they were all related just because they were named "sherwood" harris. again, dolores rutherford also references this william taylor of old lyme, ct, who, as she says, wrote extensively on this harris family. again, if my research and our harris dna disagrees with what someone has written in the past, then, obviously i think this has got to be seriously considered and looked at. again, there is much in error that has been written about our harris families in the past and any and all of this info needs to be continually looked at and reviewed as to its accuracy. In one of the cases, John PAGE and Joseph HODGES gave bail for him.(3) In the other, his father-in-law, John PAGE, Sr., alone gave bail for him.(4) The court records also show that Sherwood HARRIS and Thomas STARKE appeared at the June 1765 court and proved a deed from William PAGE to John PAGE.(5) No deed appears in the Goochland Co. deed books for it, but John PAGE, Sr. later sold this land to William Britt in 1767.(6) Sherwood may have left Goochland Co. at the same time as his PAGE in-laws did, but Hannah was pregnant and probably stayed behind until he could get settled in their new home. He was last taxed in Goochland Co. in 1767, but he does not appear in the 1768 lists. Hannah was still there when their third child, Hannah, was born and baptized in 1768. Mr. Taylor reports that he does not know where they went after that but, in 1797, this Sherwood HARRIS was said to be of Wake Co., NC and, in 1800, he sold some land there and was said to be "of Richmond Co.". His will was probated in Anson Co., NC. According to Mr. Taylor, Sherwood and Hannah (PAGE) Harris had five children. Most of the following information is from him. J-3-1 "Franky" HARRIS (female) Her birthdate was not given, but the date of 25 Jan 1763 was given for her baptismal date by Mr. Taylor. She md. Isaac J. EASON, but no date was given. J-3-2 John HARRIS He was b. 3 Apr and bp'd 26 May 1765 in Goochland Co., VA.(7) He was md. ca. 1790 to Nancy, dau. of William WILLIAMS (place not given). This couple had twelve children, one of whom died young. One of their sons was given the first name of PAGE and four of their children md. into the WILLIAMS family. John and Nancy were in Hale Co., AL by 1817 and John is buried there in the HARRIS Cemetery near Akron. J-3-3 Hannah HARRIS She was b. 19 Jan and bp'd 27 Mar 1768 in Goochland Co., VA.(8). She md. Reddick DEAN. J-3-4 Mary HARRIS She was b. 1 Mar 1771 and md. Dudley WILLIAMS. They died in Henderson Co., TN. J-3-5 Archibald HARRIS He was b. 3 Feb 1774 in Wake Co., NC and md. Susanna WILLIAMS. He was a minister. Hannah (PAGE) HARRIS died sometime between 1774 and 1777 and Sherwood md. 2) Elizabeth ? (who was possibly the dau. of William WILLIAMS. They had six more children and most (if not all) of them were born in Wake Co., NC. Elizabeth, the 2nd wife, died in 1846 in Pickens Co., AL where some of her children had settled. This WILLIAMS family may have been related to the Goochland Co., VA family of the same name. Members of that family migrated to NC in the 1760's along with a number of other Goochland Co., VA families and Sherwood and Hannah (PAGE) HARRIS. NOTES (1) Douglas: 25. The groom's name is entered as Sherard Harris. (2) This information is from William R. Taylor of Old Lyme, CT. Mr. Taylor has done extensive research on this HARRIS family of Goochland Co., VA and NC. His wife is a descendant of Sherwood and Hannah (PAGE) Harris. Mr. Taylor's An article written by him on the HARRIS Family can be found in THE VIRGINIA GENEALOGIST, Vol. 22, #4 (1978), p. 261-270. It seems that there were many men with the first name Sherwood in the various HARRIS families. (3) Rutherford-Court: 6. (Goochland Co., VA Court Order Bk. 9, p. 246) This was a case of debt brought by Alexander Baine, a merchant in the area, at the Dec 1763 court. The case was dismissed at the Feb 1764 court. (4) Rutherford-Court: 8. (Goochland Co., VA Court Order Bk. 11, p. 7) This was a "Trespass on the Case" suit with James George as the plaintiff introduced at the Jan 1767 court. John Page, Sr. gave bail for the defendant, Sherwood Harris, and the case was continued to the next court. However, I found no further disposition of this case in these records. (5) Rutherford-Court: 7. (Goochland Co., VA Court Order Bk. 10, p. 1) (6) Rutherford-Deeds: 8. (Goochland Co., VA Deed Bk. 9, p. 117) The 150 acres that John's son, William, evidently sold back to him (per the previous court record) was included in the 250 acres sold to William Britt. The remaining 100 acres had evidently been redeemed by John Page, Sr. when his son, John Jr. had mortgaged it. belva harris cauthen harris dna group 8-------26910
i had posted another post about this william harris of goochland co, va, etc, which did not post and perhaps because it was just too long. so, i am going to divide and try again. per this post, to follow, also by dolores rutherford also re the harris and page families in goochland co, va, she also references this william taylor of old lyme, ct, who wrote about this william harris of goochland co, va and who stated that it was this william harris of goochland co, va who was the son of our william harris/ mary giles. what i have said and said consistently that when i decided for us to participate in the harris dna project, my research showed that my william harris, sr/ frances goode was the son of my william harris/ judith hudson of lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va. i had never even heard of this william harris of goochland co, va until i came on line or saw any connections with him and his family or to any other william harris, except for william harris/ judith hudson, with my william harris, sr/ frances goode there early in lunenburg co, va. again, as i have also posted a number of times now, it was my william harris, sr/ frances goode; his son, my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers, who along with my mackerness goode, sr; his son, our mackerness goode, jr and also with john cargill, sr/ rachel tinsley; their son, cornelius cargill/ sarah, who obtained these ca 1770 grants in laurens co, sc where they continued to be significantly involved there, having moved to laurens co, sc from this lunenburg/ halifax cos, va area. these are the earliest and most significant connections i have re my william harris, sr/ frances goode and my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers in laurens co, sc, other than the fact that both my william harris, sr/'s frances goode and my william harris, jr's/ frances rodgers grants were adjacent each other and my rodgers family, who had also moved to laurens co, sc from lunenburg/ charlotte co, va also ca 1770. again, i repeat the earliest and the most relevant connections i have re both my william harris, sr/ frances goode and my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers from this lunenburg/ halifax cos, va area on into laurens co, sc is with my own rodgers and goode families and also with john cargill, sr/ rachel tinsley and their son, cornelius cargill/ sarah and the significance of these connections cannot be discounted either there in va and/or on into laurens co, sc. again, i have never been able to learn where my william harris, sr/ frances goode died but my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers died in 1799 in laurens co, sc. again, both my william harris, sr/ frances goode and william harris/ judith hudson were there in lunenburg co, va at a time when this william harris/ mary of goochland co, va was there with his sons sherwood harris and gilliam harris, and who, again, is stated to have been the william harris whose daughter agnes harris married john cawthon. again, it was this william taylor of old lyme, ct and i think also malcolm hart harris, etc, who wrote that this william harris of goochland co, va was the son of our william harris/ mary giles. this is just not what my own research re my specific harris line and family shows and/ or what our harris dna confirms. again, it is my brother david harris, who is participating in the harris dna project and we are a match with harris dna group 8, who are said and shown to have been the descendants of our captain thomas harris 1611 of jamestown via his son, our major william harris, wife, alice who re marrried george alvis, and who was the mother of our william harris/ mary giles (?) b ca 1672 and his brother edward harris b ca 1674. again, my research, confirmed by our harris dna, shows that my william harris, sr/ frances goode, who was in lunenburg co, va by 1746, was the son of my/ our william harris/ judith hudson who was also in brunswick/ lunenburg co, va by 1743 and who died in 1778 in mecklenburg co, va. again, this is also confirmed by this 1750 dodson survey for this land on wynn creek, which fell into halifax co, va, for william harris, sr and jr, which became a patent to my william harris, sr/ frances goode in 1758, which he sold in several tracts to john camp. again," sr ", per this 1750 dodson survey, would have been my william harris/ judith hudson and " jr ", my william harris, sr/ frances goode. again, this halifax area would have been in cornelius cargill's district, father of john cargill, sr/ rachel tinsley, and, again, my william harris/ judith hudson and my william harris, sr/ frances goode were the only william harrises in cornelius cargill's district in 1749/ 1750. again, also my research and our harris dna also show, then, that it would have been my william harris/ judith hudson, who was the son of our william harris/ mary giles. again, if this william harris of hanover, louisa, goochland cos, va is/ was also part of our captain thomas harris' harris line and family, then, he has to be the son of our william harris/ mary giles' brother, edward harris. there is no other option. again, what definitely indicates that this william harris of hanover, louisa, and goochland cos, va may have been the son of our edward harris, brother of our william harris/ mary giles, is this william harris' and his sons associations with the cawthons; the depriest family, who, again, are shown, per the processioning records of new kent/ hanover cos, va, to have been more involved with edward harris; george alvis; his son, david harris, and the crenshaws. however, in order, to also confirm these connections, a descendant of this william harris of goochland co, va and/ or his sons, sherwood harris and gilliam harris, would need to be found to also participate in our harris dna project. to be continued: belva harris cauthen harris dna group 8--------26910

again, the info stated to me by bill brandon is that this was his john cawthon/ agnes harris, daughter of william harris of hanover/ louisa/ and goochland cos, va, who had moved to granville co, nc by 1790. per rootsweb site by lavere peters, also, again, citing bill brandon, this was his john cawthon/ agnes harris, who witnessed carter hudspeth's 1796 granville co, nc will. carter hudspeth is stated, per the info to follow, to have been the son of ralph hudspeth, who was also, again, involved in the 1763 granville co, nc will of sherwood harris, whose wife was jane hudspeth, indicating, again, that there was some probable kinship re sherwood harris' wife, jane hudspeth harris and this ralph hudspeth and his son carter hudspeth, who was involved with john cawthon/ agnes harris. i have never focused on granville co, nc and this is not, as i have talked a lot about and posted info on harris hunters, my specific harris line and family who were either in goochland co, va or granville co, nc. i have had no reason to focus on granville co, nc. again, my william harris/ judith hudson were in brunswick/ lunenburg co, va by 1743 and my william harris, sr/ frances goode was in lunenburg co, va by 1746. my william harris, sr/ frances goode and my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers, etc, obtained these ca 1770 grants in laurens co, sc and my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers died there in 1799. again, all of the info shows, per the lunenburg co, va records, that my william harris, sr/ frances goode and my goode family, etc, were involved there early in lunenburg co, va with my william harris/ judith hudson and with these same individuals and families, including this richard palmer, who had been involved with our harris family on cubb creek and with david harris/ jane landy, son of our william harris/ mary giles. again, this 1750 dodson survey for this land on wynn creek for william harris, sr and jr, which became a patent to my william harris, sr/ frances good in 1758, confirms that my william harris, sr/ france goode was the son of my william harris/ judith hudson of lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va. again, my harris family research, per these records and our harris dna, also say and show that it was my william harris/ judith hudson who was the son of our william harris/ mary giles. so, again, if this william harris of hanover/ louisa/ and goochland cos, va is part our captain thomas harris' harris line/ family, and possibly the son of our william harris/ mary giles' brother, edward harris, which is what a lot of this info does indicate, again, per the records and these connections, more research still needs to be done and a harris descendant of this william harris and/ or his sons of hanover/ louisa/ goochland co, va need to be also be found to part participate in our harris dna project. also, if this sherwood harris/ jane hudspeth harris family in granville co, nc associated there with ralph hudspeth and whose son carter hudspeth was associated, as shown, there with john cawthon/ agnes harris, per the 1796 will of carter hudspeth, are also related to our captain thomas harris' harris line and family, then, again, further research needs to be done and harris dna needs to confirm this. again, this is not my specific harris line and family either there in goochland co, va or granville co, nc. this is what i have said and shown and continue to say and to show. these were, however, bill brandon's john cawthon/ agnes harris, daughter of this william harris of louisa/ goochland co, va, who had moved to granville co, nc and, as shown, were involved with the harris/ hudspeth families there. again, per my corresponding with bill brandon, who descends from john cawthon/ agnes harris, daughter of this william harris of hanover, louisa, goochland cos, va and who this william taylor of lyme, ct, etc, had stated was the son of our william harris/ mary giles, bill brandon stated that his john cawthon/ agnes harris had moved to granville co, nc. rootsweb site by lavere peters, also citing bill brandon, states that this was john cawthon/ agnes harris, who were in granville co, nc by 1790 and that his john cawthon had witnessed carter hudspeth's 1796 granville co, nc will. carter hudspeth is stated to have been the son of ralph hudspeth/ mary carter, who was also involved with the 1763 granville co, nc will of sherwood harris/ jane hudspeth, who is indicated, then, to have been probably related to ralph hudspeth and his son carter hudspeth. here is an abstract of sherwood harris/ jane hudspeth's 1763 granville co, nc will showing that ralph hudspeth was involved with his will: sherwood harris' 1763 granville co, nc will: Source:Abstracts of The Wills And Estate Records Of Granville County, North Carolina, 1746-1808 by Zae Hargett Gwynn Unrecorded Wills, 1746-1771, Page 20 June 15, 1763 --- proved August court 1763 on oath of Patrick Brady and Ralph Hudspeth. recently i had an email from bill brandon, who descends from john cawthon, who married agnes harris stated to have been the daughter of this william harris of louisa/ goochland cos, va. again, it was this william harris, who our edward harris, son of our william harris/ mary giles, sold the 50 acres to in louisa co, va which this william harris/ mary, then, sold to charles rice. bill brandon also cited to me the work written in the past by this william taylor of lyme, ct, and i think also by malcom hart harris, etc, stating that this william harris of goochland co, va was the son of our william harris/ mary giles. i told bill what i have told all of you for quite some time now on harris hunters that this is not what my harris research on my/ our specific harris line and family shows or what our harris dna confirms. again, my william harris, sr/ frances goode of lunenburg co, va is shown to have been the son of my/ our william harris/ judith hudson also of lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va. i also suggested to bill, which, again, is also what this info indicates to me, that his william harris of louisa/ goochland cos, va and whose daughter agnes harris married his john cawthon, was the son of edward harris, brother of our william harris/ mary giles. again, given his william harris' association with the cawthons, who, again, are shown by the records of new kent/ hanover cos, va to have been more involved there with edward harris; george alvis; his son, david alvis, and the crenshaws would certainly indicate this. i also learned something from bill that i did not know. he stated that his john cawthon/ agnes harris had moved to granville co, nc. now i do not know of any connections per se with my william harris, sr/ frances goode or william harris/ judith hudson with granville co, nc but there are connections re the lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va families with the granville co, nc familes. for example, memucan hunt, who had a patent with samuel harris there in lunenburg co, va and who was the same samuel harris involved there with my william harris/ judith hudson and my william harris, sr/ frances goode, moved to granville co, nc and became the first state treasurer of north carolina. again, this was also the same samuel harris, who became col samuel harris and also the noted baptist minister rev samuel harris. info written about the grassy creek baptist church in granville co, nc states that this richard harris and charles harris, who were members of the grassy creek church, were brothers of rev samuel harris, who had preached at this grassy creek baptist church there in granville co, nc. again, i cannot confirm this info. again, as i have also talked about and cited a number of times, this same richard palmer involved with our harris family on cubb creek in louisa co, va, including with david harris/ jane landy richardson, also moved to lunenburg co, va and witnessed lunenburg co, va deeds there re both my william harris, sr/ frances goode and william harris/ judith hudson. richard palmer is also shown to have had connections with the granville co, nc families. again, this was also my mackerness goode, sr's son samuel goode, who married jemimah davenport whose father joseph davenport was also in granville co, nc and, again, there are also connections re the davenports and satterwhites there in granville co, nc also with the families in lunenburg co, va. again, i have also cited in the past that, per the lunenburg co, va records, both my william harris, sr/ frances goode and william harris/ judith hudson, along with either john wilborn or stephen evans, were to value the land of daniel williams in lunenburg co, va. this was the same daniel williams, wife, ursula, who moved to and died in granville co, nc and their children: col james williams and mariah williams goodman, who also moved to laurens co, sc and who were also involved with my/ our harris family there. one of the witnesses to daniel william's granville co, nc will was this luke waldrop. per a laurens co, sc deed in 1774, my william harris, jr sold his original 1772 150-acre grant to michael waldrop, who was related to this luke waldrop. so, there are relevant connections, as i say, re the lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va families with the families in granville co, nc, etc, and, again, it was interesting to learn from bill that his john cawthon/ agnes harris had moved to granville co, nc. to be continued: belva harris cauthen harris dna group 8--------26910
per this post by dolores rutherford also re the harris and page families in goochland co, va, she also references this william taylor of lyme, ct, who wrote about this william harris of goochland co, va and who stated that it was this william harris of goochland co, va who was the son of our william harris/ mary giles. what i have said and said consistently that when i decided for us to participate in the harris dna project, my research showed that my william harris, sr/ frances goode was the son of my william harris/ judith hudson of lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va. i had never even heard of this william harris of goochland co, va or saw any connections with him and his family or to any other william harris. again, as i have also posted a number of times now, it was my william harris, sr/ frances goode; his son, my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers, along with my mackerness goode, sr; his son, our mackerness goode, jr and also with john cargill, sr/ rachel tinsley; their son, cornelius cargill/ sarah, who obtained these ca 1770 grants in laurens co, sc where they continued to be significantly involved there, having moved to laurens co, sc from this lunenburg/ halifax cos, va area. these are the earliest and most significant connections i have re my william harris, sr/ frances goode and my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers in laurens co, sc, other than the fact that both my william harris, sr/'s frances goode and my william harris, jr's/ frances rodgers grants were adjacent each other and my rodgers family, who had also moved to laurens co, sc from lunenburg/ charlotte co, va also ca 1770. again, i have never been able to learn where my william harris, sr/ frances goode died but my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers died in 1799 in laurens co, sc. again, both my william harris, sr/ frances goode and william harris/ judith hudson were there in lunenburg co, va at a time when this william harris/ mary of goochland co, va was there with his sons sherwood harris and gilliam harris, and who, again, is stated to have been the william harris whose daughter agnes harris married john cawthon. again, it was this william taylor of lyme, ct and i think also malcolm hart harris, etc, who wrote that this william harris of goochland co, va was the son of our william harris/ mary giles. this is just not what my own research re my specific harris line and family shows and/ or what our harris dna confirms. again, it is my brother david harris, who is participating in the harris dna project and we are a match with harris dna group 8, who are said and shown to have been the descendants of our captain thomas harris 1611 of jamestown via his son, our major william harris, wife, alice who re marrried george alvis, and who was the mother of our william harris/ mary giles (?) b ca 1672 and his brother edward harris b ca 1674. again, my research, confirmed by our harris dna, shows that my william harris, sr/ frances goode, who was in lunenburg co, va by 1746, was the son of my/ our william harris/ judith hudson who was also in brunswick/ lunenburg co, va by 1743 and who died in 1778 in mecklenburg co, va. again, this is also confirmed by this 1750 dodson survey for this land on wynn creek, which fell into halifax co, va, for william harris, sr and jr, which became a patent to my william harris, sr/ frances goode in 1758, which he sold in several tracts to john camp. again, this halifax area would have been in cornelius cargill's district, father of john cargill, sr/ rachel tinsley, and, again, my william harris/ judith hudson and my william harris, sr/ frances goode were the only william harrises in cornelius cargill's district in 1749/ 1750. again, also my research and our harris dna also show, then, that it would have been my william harris/ judith hudson, who was the son of our william harris/ mary giles. if this william harris of hanover, louisa, goochland cos, va is/ was also part of our captain thomas harris' harris line and family, then, he has to be the son of our william harris/ mary giles' brother, edward harris. there is no other option. again, what definitely indicates that this william harris of hanover, louisa, and goochland cos, va may have been the son of our edward harris, brother of our william harris/ mary giles, is this william harris' and his sons associations with the cawthons; the depriest family, who, again, are shown, per the processioning records of new kent/ hanover cos, va, to have been more involved with edward harris; george alvis; his son, david harris, and the crenshaws. however, in order, to also confirm these connections, a descendant of this william harris of goochland co, va and/ or his sons, sherwood harris and gilliam harris, would need to be found to also participate in our harris dna project. PAGE-L Archives Archiver > PAGE > 1999-05 > 0927820183 From: "Dolores C. Rutherford" < [email protected]> Subject: [PAGE-L] Part #40 Date: Thu, 27 May 1999 08:49:43 -0700 ` Hannah PAGE (dau. of "J") md. Sherwood HARRIS J-3 Hannah's birthdate is not known. Her birth is not recorded in the Douglas Register, so she was no doubt born before her parents moved to Goochland Co., VA. She md. Sherwood/Sherard HARRIS in Goochland Co. on 16 Dec 1761.(1) The Goochland Co. records are full of HARRIS references. There appear to have been two Sherwood HARRIS men in this county at the same time. The older man of this name appears to have left Goochland Co. about 1756 and settled in Granville Co., NC where he died in 1763. William R. TAYLOR of Lyme, CT has done extensive research on this HARRIS family.(2) The younger Sherwood HARRIS who md. Hannah PAGE evidently did not own any land in Goochland Co., VA, but he was involved in two court cases there. However, I found no further disposition of this case in these records. again, and to repeat, the william harris, wife, mary of hanover, louisa, and goochland cos, va with sons sherwood harris and gilliam harris, and whose daughter agnes is said to have married john cawthon, were certainly not my william harris, sr/ frances goode or william harris/ judith hudson, who were in brunswick/ lunenburg cos, va by 1743/ 1746. again, my william harris, sr/ frances goode and william harris/ judith hudson were there in lunenburg co, va at a time when this william harris/ mary and his sons sherwood harris and a gilliam harris were in goochland co, va. however, as i have posted, again, many times in the past, both my william harris, sr/ frances goode and my william harris/ judith hudson were involved with the will and estate of john wilburn/ his wife, judith, from 1757 to 1762 there in lunenburg co, va. again, john wilborn's son, thomas wilburn also continued to live in this same woodpecker/ bluestone creek area as william harris/ judith hudson and to be involved with the same individuals and families, etc. i have never been able to learn who this john wilburn or his wife, judith, were but, again, it definitely seems significant that my william harris, sr/ frances goode and william harris/ judith hudson were both involved there with john wilborn and that his son thomas wilborn continued to live near and be involved with william harris/ judith hudson. in looking at this info dolores rutherford posted re the harris; page; and wilburn families in goochland co, va, i noted that there were two wilburn boys bound out to robert page, who were the sons of this richard wilburn. our john wilburn, wife, judith, who died in 1757 in lunenburg co, va could not have been one of the sons of this richard wilburn, who died in goochland co, va ca 1759 and whose sons were bound out to robert page, but could "our" john wilburn/ wilborn of lunenburg co, va, perhaps, have been a brother of this richard wilburn of goochland co, va? here again is an excerpt from this post by delores rutherford re the harris; page; wilburn connections there in goochland co, va, stating that two sons of this richard wilburn there were bound out to robert page: In 1750, John sold his first land (100 acres) to Richard WILBURN, who, as you may remember, was the father of the two WILBURN boys bound out to Robert PAGE after Richard's death about 1759. John purchased two other tracts of land in this county, one of 270 acres in 1751 and another of 100 acres in 1758. to be continued: belva harris cauthen harris dna group 8---------26910
again, it was the william harris of hanover/ louisa/ goochland cos, va, who our edward harris, son of our william harris, sold the 50 acres to in louisa co, va, which this william harris/ wife, mary, then, sold to charles rice. again, which i have posted a number of times now, at the same time that edward harris sold this land in louisa co, va to this william harris/ mary, in 1743, william harris of brunswick co, va, who, again, i definitely believe was my william harris/ judith hudson also sold land in louisa co, va to stephen harris of st martin's parish of hanover co, va. again, this is/ was the same stephen harris shown to have been involved with our george harris; david harris/ jane landy richardson; and carol's thomas harris, who are all part of our captain thomas harris' harris line and family. again, it is this william harris, wife, mary, who is shown, per these goochland co, va deeds, to have had sons: sherwood harris and gilliam harris. again, and to repeat, it is this william harris of hanover/ louisa/ goochland cos, va and/ or his sons, who are shown to have been more involved, per these processioning records, with george alvis; his son, david alvis; the crenshaws; the depriest family, and, again, the cawthons. again, it is also stated/ shown to have been this william harris of goochland co, va whose daughter agnes harris married john cawthon and it these connections that i want to go into and to talk more about. per this page info, again, this is indicated to also have been this william harris of goochland co, va's son, sherwood harris, who married in goochland co, va hannah page, daughter of this john page. the following post by dolores rutherford talks about these connections there in goochland co, va re the harris and page families and also with the wilburn family. again, both my william harris, sr/ frances goode and william harris/ judith hudson were involved with the will of john wilburn/ wife, judith, from 1757-1762 there in lunenburg co, va. was john wilborn of lunenburg co, va related to this wilburn family of goochland co, va??? PAGE-L Archives Archiver > PAGE > 1998-04 > 0893624374 From: "Dolores C. Rutherford" < [email protected]> Subject: [PAGE-L] PAGE....Part 5 Date: Sun, 26 Apr 1998 13:59:34 -0700 PAGE - Part 5 J - JOHN PAGE, Sr. >From the ages and marriage dates of his children, it appears that John, Sr. was probably born ca. 1705-1710. When he purchased his first land in Goochland Co. in 1742, just four months after Robert PAGE (R) purchased his, the record gave John's residence as King & Queen Co.. Robert PAGE (R) was a witness to this deed as well as to another deed to John dated two years later. Both tracts of land lay on branches of Lickinghole Creek. In the 10-15 years before John and Robert first appeared here, many famiies from Middlesex Co., VA had migrated to Goochland Co.. It is interesting to note that some of these families acted as witnesses to documents involving the PAGE men in Goochland Co. and, in turn, the PAGEs witnessed theirs. Middlesex Co. borders King & Queen Co. on the north. Familiar names in the Middlesex Co. records that later appear in Goochland Co. are: CHOWNING, DANIELS, GRESHAM, JOHNSON, MOSELEY, PACE, SMITH, THURSTON, TUGGLE (Tugwell), WILBURN, and WILLIAMS, to name just a few. Middlesex Co. was also where an early HEATH family lived. Axol's Swamp was in the part of King & Queen Co. closest to Middlesex Co.. In 1750, John sold his first land (100 acres) to Richard WILBURN, who, as you may remember, was the father of the two WILBURN boys bound out to Robert PAGE after Richard's death about 1759. John purchased two other tracts of land in this county, one of 270 acres in 1751 and another of 100 acres in 1758. In 1761, he made gift deeds of land to his sons, John and William. John received the 100 acres purchased in 1758 and William received the 150 acres purchased in 1744. John, Sr. retained the 270 acres. Son, John, had to mortgage his 100 acres a couple of times and it appears that he eventually lost it as no deed appears whereby he sold it. William evidently deeded his 150 acres back to his father in 1765. Although no record appears in the deed books for this transfer, the court order book shows that Thomas STARKE and Sherod HARRIS proved a deed from William PAGE to John PAGE. It had to be for this land because, in Sep 1767, John PAGE deeded it to Edward SMITH. In the same month, John sold the last of his land in this county (said to be 250 acres) to William BRITT. Because the original deed for this land said it 270 acres, perhaps the land was re-surveyed and found to contain less. He also sold the 150 acres that he had given and received back from his son, William, to Edward SMITH. John's wife, Hannah, released her dower rights to both parcels. Then, the family disappeared from Goochland Co. and later appeared in North Carolina records. During his stay in Goochland Co., John also served as "constable", was on juries, was an Ensign in the militia (1753) and served on the "road gang", both as a surveyor and as a worker. In the latter duty, he was not a convict. In those days, those who lived along or used the roads were charged with the building and upkeep of them. John and Hannah PAGE had the following children: J-1 William PAGE, b. ca. 1731-32. He md. Jean STEVENTON sometime before Dec 1755 when their first child was born. He was first listed with his father in the "Tithable Lists" of Goochland Co. in 1748 and in the deed records in 1765. He can be found later in Pitt Co., NC. J-2 John PAGE, b. ca. 1738-39. He md. Unity HARRIS ca. 1757 as their first child was born in Jun 1758 in Goochland Co.. He was first taxed in his father's household in 1755. John lost the 100 acres that his father gave him there and, after several court cases in which he was the defendant, he left VA and moved to Pitt Co., NC where he was granted and purchased quite a bit of land. J-3 Joseph PAGE, b. ca. 1736-37. He md. Elizabeth STEVENTON on 13 Apr 1758 in Goochland Co., VA (The Douglas Register). He appears in the "Tithable Lists" first in 1760 and last in 1767. In court cases dated 1763 and 1766, when Joseph was the defendant, John PAGE, Sr. gave security for him in both instances. Both cases were later dismissed. The last record of Joseph in Goochland Co. was dated Sep 1767. Joseph's wife, Elizabeth, was no doubt related to William's wife. Joseph also moved to Pitt Co., NC. Some questions remain as to where Joseph was living before his marriage. He was not listed with John, Sr. in the tax lists before his marriage in 1758 as one would expect. However, when his name did appear on these lists, it was in the same district and always next to the name of John, Sr.. J-4 Hannah PAGE, b. before 1743. She md. Sherwood HARRIS on 16 Dec 1761 in Goochland Co.. Sherwood may have been related to John's wife. When his name appears in the tax lists it is next to the name of John PAGE, Sr.. Sherwood ceases to be taxed by 1766. This may have been about the time that they moved to NC. Sherod and William HARRIS were co-defendants in a case of debt in Dec 1763. John PAGE and Joseph HODGES gave security for them. Sherod HARRIS was one of the witnesses to the deed from William PAGE to his father, John PAGE, Sr. in 1765. This deed was not recorded in the deed books, but was proved at court. Sherwood/Sherod and Hannah PAGE may have lived in some other NC county for a while before moving to Anson Co., NC. The courthouses in many NC counties were burned in the 1860's so records of this couple there are difficult to obtain. Another older Sherwood HARRIS also lived in Goochland Co. for a while, but later moved to Granville Co., NC where he died that county in 1763. Sherwood and Hannah had six children, including a daughter Hannah, evidently named for her mother and grandmother. This couple eventually went to Anson Co., NC. Hannah died sometime between 1774 and 1778. Sherwood is reported to have md. again twice and had a second family. His last wife's name was Elizabeth and she may have been the dau. of Sherwood's good friend, William Williams. WILLIAMS is another name that was in both Middlesex and Goochland Cos., VA. William WILLIAMS, in Goochland Co. by 1728 is my ancestor. I do not know if the WILLIAMS mentioned here as a friend of Sherwood HARRIS was related to the Goochland Co. bunch. Sherwood HARRIS died in Anson Co., NC in 1805. Some of the descendants went on to Alabama. Most of my information on the descendants of this couple was contributed by Wm. R. Taylor of Old Lyme, CT.
