    1. [HARRIS-HUNTERS] reply to peggy re my william harris, sr/ frances goode, etc
    2. hi peggy   no, i do not have a marriage record for my william harris, sr/ frances goode and it has been a really long process of my determining this.    in fact, i do not have a marriage records for any of my harrises until my great-grandfather martin alonzo harris married my great-grandmother amanda allen in 1874 in paulding co, ga.   again, given that we do not always have marriage records,  this goes back to my just saying that we have to go to other sources to try and determine, if we can, who their wives were and their fathers, etc.   again, i am convinced that my william harris, sr's wife, frances, was frances goode, daugher of my mackerness goode, sr also of lunenburg co, va and laurens co, sc, based on the info and a long time of my studying all this and that this is what the info definitely does show and indicate and i have talked  a good bit about this already on harris hunters.   i am not quite sure who the wives of my harrises were has to do with the fact that there has been and continues to be this confusion between our william harris/ mary giles and william harris/ temperance overton.   speaking of, is there a marriage record for william harris/ temperance overton?  are there any deeds for william harris, showing that he had a wife, named, temperance?  did he leave a will naming temperance  (overton) as his wife?   on what basis has it been determined that there was a william harris/ temperance overton?   this is what i am asking and once that question has been asked, and can be successfully determined that even given that there is/ was no marriage record, no deeds, no will or any other info actually stating that there was a william harris with a wife, temperance overton, that despite having none of this, we can still successfully conclude that there was a william harris/ temperance overton-----   then, we are still left with the confusion between william harris/ temperance overton and our william harris/ marriage giles and, again, our trying to determine ------   was it william harris/ temperance overton who was the vestryman and who was called mr and captain william harris or was it our william harris/ mary giles and was it only william harris/ temperance overton who was called mr and/ or captain, etc?     belva harris cauthen harris dna group 8--------26910

William Harris/Mary Hiter William Harris/ Mary Todd William Harris/Mary Tyler William Harris/Diane Chisman Goodwin William Harris/ an Osborne William Harris/Anne Overton Harris I have all these names in my files and have no idea of the connection, if there is any!, between any of them. In my studies of the Harris surnames I too have become very confused. I just want to get it straight in my mind, about just which Harris belongs to whom, how, why and proof. I am beginning to believe that there have been marriages between unrelated Harris bloodlines and families which has confused the issue greatly. I have no idea at this point at just whom to connect my Capt William Harris/Mary Hudson (as recorded in the Douglas Register). I have Harris families that marry into Talley, Tate, Ware, for example. At this point I have no idea if they connect with my Capt William and Mary Hudson Harris at all. Yikes!!! As Belva says: "our harris dna group 8 and harris dna group 6 have been and continue to be a puzzle." And then there are the Harris DNA groups 24 and 30, and 2. 1. Re: [HARRIS-HUNTERS] re st paul's vestry book, new kent co, va, etc
    2. hi  peggy   this is going to be really brief for now but there are no marriage records for a number of these.   in regard to our william harris/ mary giles, and as i have said previously on harris hunters, it is no longer believed that she was a giles but in order to distinguish our william harris, son of our major william harris and stepson of our george alvis,  from william harris/ temperance overton, etc, i have continued to call her/ them, william harris/ mary giles.   we do know that her name was mary.   again, there is also no marriage record for my william harris/ judith hudson but she is named as a daughter in her father's peter hudson, sr's 1752/ 1753 halifax co, va will and both my william harris/ judith hudson and my william harris, sr/ frances goode are the only william harrises in these early records for halifax/ lunenburg/ mecklenburg cos, va  who are shown to have been definitely involved with each othe and, again, these same individuals and families, including my goode family.    also, as i keep saying, there is this 1750 dodson survey for this land on wynn creek for william harris, sr and jr, and which  became a patent for my william harris, sr/ frances goode in 1758, which clearly shows/ states that my william harris, sr/ frances goode was the son of my william harris/ judith hudson.   recently i just cited the info that martha, widow of our peter hudson, sr, could not have been the mother of my judith hudson harris because both my william harris, sr/ frances goode and his brother reuben harris would have been born before martha married our peter hudson, sr.   one often really has to look at other info to determine, if one can,  wives and who their fathers were, etc, because, again, sorry to say, there are just no marriage records for a lot of these.     belva harris cauthen harris dna group 8-------26910 --- On Mon, 1/19/09, [email protected] <[email protected]> wrote: From: [email protected] <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [HARRIS-HUNTERS] re st paul's vestry book, new kent co, va, etc To: [email protected] Date: Monday, January 19, 2009, 12:54 PM Would someone please post marriage documents, dates and places and  other specific information (like wills, Douglas register, etc.)  that specifically note maiden names, parents, etc for the following  marriages:  (I know I'm asking a lot here!!!!!) 1. [HARRIS-HUNTERS] re st paul's vestry book, new kent co, va, etc
    2. e.w.   first of all, i want to thank you for helping out gloria and for all of the help and suggestions you have given to others on harris hunters.   i also want to thank you for putting on harris hunters a copy of the book re st paul's parish, new kent/ hanover co, va by c. g. chamberlayne.   i have seen bits and pieces from the book but never the whole book and i would like to say that after having seen the whole book that i have a better perspective of what this info says and shows, but i do not.   i have looked at this info twice now and if i looked at it a third and a fourth time, i think i would come to the same conclusion, which is that i do not see in looking at this how one could say conclusively that this william harris, who became vestryman, was your william harris/ temperance overton or our william harris/ mary giles.    on the one hand, if you look at this info, george alvis, who was the stepfather of our william harris/ mary giles and his brother, edward harris, who were known to have been in new kent co, va by 1694 with george alvis, was apparently a vestryman there in st paul's parish for life and an important member of the vestry.   even when george alvis returned to england and, seemingly, was gone for quite some time and, as the info states, john glenn refused to become a member of the vestry in george alvis' place until it was known that george alvis would return from england and could say whether he wanted to continue to be a vestry man or not.   george alvis did return from england and continued to be a vestryman there at st paul's parish some time after he had returned from england.   so, who better to influence the vestry and/ or our william harris/ mary giles than george alvis and to see that it was our william harris/ mary giles who also became a member of the vestry.   on the other hand, there is also the info in the book which associates this william harris also with james overton and says that james overton became vestryman in the house of william harris.   so, this is certainly a puzzle, as i say, as to which william harris, definitely became a vestryman as other things re our harris dna group 8 and harris dna group 6 have been and continue to be a puzzle.   i have to agree with carol when she says that it does not makes sense that our william harris/ mary giles, who was the son or our major william harris of henrico co, va and who was raised by his stepfather george alvis, who, as just shown, was a longtime, influential member of the vestry there in st paul's parish in new kent/ hanover co, va, would have just been this mere william harris who obtained this patent for this land on cubb creek in 1724 and that was that.   in fact, at one point, carol suggested that the william harris, said to be william harris/ temperance overton, was the same person as our william harris/ mary giles and when i look at some of this info and these connections, etc, i have to wonder the same thing, except, again, there is this whole other harris dna group 6, who are definitely shown to have not been related to our harris dna group 8.   again, and obviously there is a harris dna group 6 who are totally a different harris family from our harris dna group 8 but, and if this has been asked before, i do not remember seeing where is there any actual proof other than someone, like malcolm harris wrote and said so, that there was a william harris married to a temperance overton?   in fact, what exactly did malcolm harris have to say?  again, i have not seen his book or books?   i do know that, again, per the info, malcolm harris stated that mr william harris and captain william harris were the same and that this was william harris/ temperance overton.    so, every patent which was for either captain william harris or mr william harris, malcom harris ascribed to him, william harris/ temperance overton.   of  course, malcolm harris also said that this was william harris/ temperance overton's son, william harris, jr, who had the patent for the land on elk creek.   the only other patent malcolm harris did not ascribe to william harris/ temperance overton was, again, the 1724 patent on cubb creek which he did ascribe to our william harris/ mary giles, although i am not sure he indentified him or said in his book or info that our william harris/ mary giles was the stepson of our george alvis and son of our major william harris of henrico co, va.   again, i understand that there is a whole other harris dna group 6, who are a different harris dna group, and even a different haplotype, from our harris dna group 8 and who say they they descend from captain william harris/ temperance overton, which would include your christopher harris/ mary dabney/ agnes mc cord.   by the way, when was william harris/ tempance overton born and when did he die?  i find different dates for him.   again, all i can say conclusively is a lot of this is not conclusive and otherwise, except, again, to thank you for your input and to say, this is still confusing re our william harris/ mary giles and william harris/ temperance overton,  i am not quite sure what else to say.     of course, i would welcome yours and others comments in what you see in looking at this st paul's parish info, and/ or any other of this info.       belva harris cauthen harris dna group 8-------26910

    1. Re: [HARRIS-HUNTERS] HARRIS-HUNTERS Digest, Vol 4, Issue 22
    2. Gloria, I think you have to search some of the probate files of Umatilla, Oregon. These frequently provide information about guardianships. Court records also may have some references. If you live near an LDS family history center, you can order some probate films of the appropriate dates from the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. You will have to have time to read the films, and you have to pay a fee--and wait a few weeks. The Library catalog can be found online under the tab Library. The catalog is the last item on the menu under that tab. _www.familysearch.org_ (http://www.familysearch.org) You might inquire whether there is a genealogical society in that county and ask whether--for a donation or fee--someone will do research for you. As an old timer at my local LDS center asks when people want him to help them: Have you done your census work? The 1880 census index [not the images, which are free on Ancestry.com] is also on _www.familysearch.org_ (http://www.familysearch.org) If you local library has the online database called HeritageQuest, you will find the censuses there also, but not all the censuses have been indexed by HQ. Does Umatilla Co. have a rootsweb list? If so, post your questions there also. Congratulations on providing some dates for your folks. I don't know when Oregon began keeping records on deaths, but you might check that also. You have an interesting problem, but I cannot provide you with any facts. E.W.Wallace . 1. [HARRIS-HUNTERS] reply to pat clare re william hudson/ my judith hudson harris # 2
    2. in fact, i also have more to say about these same connections re both my william harris, sr/ frances goode and reuben harris with the same or related john jefferies.   again, both my william harris, sr/ frances goode and my william harris/ judith hudson were involved with the will and estate of john wilborn from 1757-1762 there in lunenburg co, va and, again, whereas john wilborn lived in this woodpecker creek area near my william harris/ judith hudson and his son thomas wilborn continued to live there near them, it was my william harris, sr/ frances goode who was the executor of the will and estate of john wilborn.   the lunenburg co, va records also show that john jefferies was one of the appraisers of john wilborn's estate:   in 1758, the estate of john wilborn in lunenburg co, va was appraised for the court by john camp; john jefferies; and richard swepson.    again, per halifax co, va deeds posted a number of times now, this was my william harris, sr/ frances goode, who sold this wynn creek land to john camp, which, again, had been a 1750 survey for my william harris, sr (my william harris/ judith hudson) and my william harris, jr (my william harris, sr/ frances goode) which became a patent to my william harris, sr/ frances goode in 1758.   here again, to follow, is one of these deeds re my william harris, sr/ frances goode to john camp and also this 1750 dodson survey.   again, my focus has been on lunenburg and mecklenburg co, va, although, again, as these lunenburg co, va tithe lists show, my william harris, sr/ frances goode and his father, my william harris/ judith hudson started out in cornelius cargill's district, which became halifax co, va and deeds show they maintained some property and/ or contact with the families also of halifax co, va.   this is  indicated, then, to have been also my william harris, sr/ frances goode, who sold land to john jefferies per the following deed or excerpt from this halifax co, va deed and which is indicated to have been in this same wynn creek area per the land my william harris, sr/ frances goode sold to john camp.   19-F Halifax/Scottsburg William Harris, Sr. & Jr. 1750 820a Wynns Cr. & Powels br.  Neighbors & near vicinity:  Margery Sizemore, James Sizemore, George Sizemore, Henry Sizemore, William Sizemore, Robert Wooding, William Williamson, Joseph Shaw,William McHenry, Richard Powell, Anthony Griffin, Buckner Stith, John Powel, Benj. 1. [HARRIS-HUNTERS] reply to pat clare re william hudson/ my judith hudson harris # 1
    2. pat   first of all, i want to thank sandy for posting these court road order items re harrises and, especially in my case, the ones for lunenburg co, va.   i had found this lunenburg co, va court road orders myself earlier and they were helpful and later i have some comments also in regard to these items.   again, these lunenburg co, va court road order items also do show my william harris, sr/ frances goode's association with her father, my mackerness goode. sr and also with the same individuals/ families also associated with his father, my william harris/ judith hudson.   pat, there is NO documentation that my peter hudson, sr had a 1st wife, who would have been the mother of my judith hudson harris and her sister, sarah parker, but this IS definitely what the info does indicate.   there IS documentation that martha was married to halcott pride before she married my peter hudson, sr ca 1723 in henrico co, va.   martha and halcott pride had three daughter who were NOT infants when halcott pride died.    what do you think my peter hudson, sr was doing the whole time that martha was married to halcott pride?   do you have proof that martha was the mother of my judith hudson harris or exactly when my judith hudson harris was born or when she married my william harris?   earlier when you learned that  reuben harris, son of my william harris/ judith hudson, who was age 95-100 on the 1830 mecklenburg co, va census and who would have been born, then, ca 1730- 1735, you speculated and, again, i reiterate you speculated that my judith hudson harris must have been a child bride in order to have been the mother of reuben harris.   let's split the diiference here and let's say that reuben harris was born in 1732 and my judith hudson harris was age 15 when she had reuben, this would mean that she would have been born in 1717 and that is still 6 years before my peter hudson, sr married martha in 1723.   there is NO way that martha would have been the mother of my judith hudson harris.   there is also NO proof that reuben harris was the oldest son of my william harris/ judith hudson.    in fact, given that my william harris, sr/ frances goode was the earliest and/ or, for that matter, the only one of their sons to be shown to have been directly and definitely associated with them, per these early lunenburg co, va deeds and records,  i would say that my william harris, sr/ frances goode was probably their oldest son and, again, the info indicates that he was born ca 1726.   speaking of martha and halcott pride, again, i have posted in the past, per these lunenburg co, va deeds, which i will cite again, that land john brunsfield sold to my william harris, sr/ frances goode and which was witnessed by my mackerness goode, sr, my william harris, sr/ frances goode, then, sold to gray briggs.   this was gray briggs sister, mary briggs, who married a younger halcott pride, who was related to the older halcott pride who had been married to martha, who, then, remarried my peter hudson, sr.   again, gray briggs was married to dorothy pleasants and her grandfather or great- grandfather john pleasants purchased land in henrico co, va from abraham childress, jr, which had belonged to our major william harris.   again, i have posted all of this info previously but here, again, are these deeds re john brunskill to my william harris, sr/ frances goode which was the same land he sold to gray briggs.   lunenburg co, va deed book 4, page 247, 1754, john brunskill of amelia co, va to william harris of lunenburg co, va for 55 pds, 400 acres  in lunenburg on both sides of the middle fork of the bluestone creek and bounded by new lines. signed:  john brunskill.  william key; george berry, his mark, mackerness goode, his mark.   lunenburg co, va deed book 6, page 216, sept 3, 1760, william harris and wife, frances, to gray briggs, attorney, for 200 pds 400 acres on middle fork of bluestone creek, patent to brunskill. wit:  clement reade, jr; p. carrington; clement reade.  frances, wife of william harris, relinquished her right of dower     to be continued:     belva harris cauthen harris dna group 8--------26910

The library at Brigham Young U [I forget its formal name] as well as other libraries are banding together to digitize some of their books, principally those where the copyright has expired, and eventually they will be transferred, I understand, to the Family History Library URL - _www.familysearch.org_ (http://www.familysearch.org) This project is a project in progress. Clayton Library in Houston, TX and Allen Co. [Indiana] Public Library are also participants, I understand. We have much to look forward to. 2. Does anyone know where the book on the Luckett Family by Carol Mitchell (deceased 2007) can be found. This work was probably done on the Luckett's and connecting families in Maryland but I'm not sure just what it may have covered. She did indicate it covered some specific Harrises and even sent me the complete "footnotes" but none of the excerpts. Carol indicated to me a number of years ago that it was published and available in certain libraries but I can't find my notes on this communication. Any help is appreciated. 1. [HARRIS-HUNTERS] reply again to carol re wilminton harris # 10
    2. i am going to talk about this first and, then, cite info.   the info does show that it was this william harris/ mary of hanover/ louisa/ goochland cos, va, who was more involved with the cawthons and crenshaws, who, in turn, were also shown to have been more involved with george alvis, his son, david alvis and who, again, were also more involved with edward harris, brother of our william harris/ mary giles than with our william harris/ mary giles.   again, both our william harris/ mary giles and his brother, edward harris, had moved with their mother, alice, and their stepfather, george alvis, by 1694 or earlier to new kent/ hanover cos, va.   again, after our alice harris alvis died,  george alvis is shown/ indicated to have re- married mary crenshaw.   the records of hanover co, va show that our edward harris, son of our major william harris and brother of our william harris/ mary giles, was involved in a dispute with david crenshaw re the guardianship of david alvis, son of george alvis/ mary crenshaw.    in hanover, there are also these items: (my info re these records is from wiggins: harris papers: new kent/ hanover cos, va.)   the estate of david alvis, orphan of george alvis is brought to court and recorded.  david crenshaw is admin of the estate of mary alvis, deceased, and the estate owes david alvis 10 pds 15 shillings, oct 1734.   1734, charles chiswell, richard clough, and michael holland meet, the parties being absent, in the case of david crenshaw lately guardian of david alvis, enfant, versus edward harris, his present guardian.   the following  records of new kent/ hanover cos, va also connect edward harris with the crenshaws and david alvis.   The lands of Jn Williamson, Edw Harris, John Crenshaw, Tho Johnson, Jn Sims**** and Geo Brock being one precinct, of which Jn Williamson and Edw Harris are overseers, who made this return we the Subscribers have processiond our Land according to Order, Edw Harris, John Williamson, John Crenshaw, Geo Brock, Thos Johnson, John Sims The Vestry Book of St Paul's Parish" Hanover County VA 1706-1786 (1734)Pg 141 BENJAMIN JOHNSON At a Vestry held for St Pauls Parish ye 19th 1734 Ordered that Benj Johnson, have the Tithables of Jn Price, Tho Grant, Edward Harris, David Alvis, Tho Winpenney, Wm Hix, Wm Cawthon, Nich Gentry, Jn Ross and Laurence Forguson to assist him in Clearing the road where he is Surveyor The Vestry Book of St Paul's Parish" Hanover County VA 1706-1786   then, also per the processioning records of new kent/ hanover cos, va from ca 1719-1755/ 1759 and, perhaps, later, there is also shown to have been this william harris, who is consistently processioned with the cawthons and the crenshaws as well as with george alvis and david alvis.   1719: william harris processioned with george alvis; gentry; cawthon; john sim. # 31   1719:  thomas harris lands processioned with george alvis; george harris; richard clough; george dabney; john and david crenshaw. # 33   1731 in one precinct:  william harris; george alvis; christopher cawthon; john spradling; nicholas gentry; samuel pryor; james phillips; james cawthon, page 193.      possibly, the 1719 survey may have been for our william harris/ mary giles but by 1731/ 1735,etc, the william harris here processioned with george alvis, david alvis; the cawthons  and crenshaws and who continued to be processioned with them,  is definitely indicated to have been this william harris, who was the same william harris/ mary of goochland co, va.   again, my william harris/ judith hudson and my william harris, sr/ frances goode were in brunswick/ lunenburg co, va by 1743/ 1746.     per the louisa co, va deed wherein our edward harris, son of our william harris/ mary giles, sold land in louisa co, va to william watkins for this land on cubb creek, this shows that our william harris/ mary giles was deceased by 1749.      Davis, Rosalie E. 1. [HARRIS-HUNTERS] reply again to carol re wilminton harris, etc, # 9
    2. again, it is my william harris, sr/ frances goode who is definitely shown, and confirmed by this 1750 dodson survey for this land on wynn creek for william harris, sr and jr, to have been the son of my william harris/ judith hudson.   it is my  william harris/ judith hudson of brunswick/ lunenburg co, va who, again, per this 1743 brunswick co, va deed re this land sold in louisa co, va to stephen harris of st martin's parish, hanover co, va , and per my/ our harris dna, who is also definitely indicated, and confimed, to have been the william harris, son of our william harris/ mary giles, brother of  our related david harris/ jane landy richardson; edward harris/ ann; george harris; stephen harris, etc.   neither our william harris/ mary giles or his brother edward harris, sons of our major william harris and his 2nd wife, alice, who re-married george alvis, left wills or estate papers.     so, it is going to be through our individual and combined efforts re our research and, again, confimed by our harris dna, that we are going to be able to figure out who were the sons of our william harris/ mary giles and his brother edward harris.   again, i have spent almost 30 years now researching primarily my harris family and their ancestry.     at one time or another i have had several files on the southern harris families and besides my coming on  harris hunters and talking about my harris specific harris line and  family because of the controversy i have encountered,  i have never found anything written about our specific harris line and family and very few interested in them and no one who knew more about them.   for example,  before i focused on this lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va area,  i spent over 10 years even earlier focusing also on laurens co, sc.     early on after i had gotten my/ our harris and carter families back to laurens co, sc, i corresponded briefly with a descendant of our william harris, jr/ frances rodgers whose daughter sarah goode harris married her john mc laughlin.   as she knew nothing more about her mc laughlin family or our harris family there in laurens co, sc or their ancestry, we only corresponded briefly.    she also believed that either our william harris, sr or jr did have some connection with our mackerness goode there in laurens co, sc    in fact, the following laurens co, sc deed also connects her john mc laughlin with our mackerness goode, sr or jr.   laurens co, sc deed book E, page 397, 1795, stephen mullings to william reynolds for 20 pds sterling, 50 acres on the beaverdam creek of little river, grant by pinckney in 1792, bordered on chesnut, zachariah hall, mackerness goode.  witnesses:  whitfield wilson, john mc laughlin. george anderson, j.p.   as an aside, this stephen mullings married into the same edward garrett family as johnson harris, son of edward harris, jr, son of edward harris, sr also of lunenburg/ charlotte co, va.   again, we are a harris dna group 8 match with edward harris, sr of lunenburg/ charlotte cos, va whose sons, stephen harris and edward harris, jr also moved to laurens co, sc.   the following laurens co, sc deeds show stephen mullings and johnson harris' connection with this same garrett family and also johnson harris with his father, edward harris, jr.   laurens co, sc deed book H, page 205, 1807, anna garrett and legatees of edward garrett, decd, to the upper branches of duncan's creek church and their successors, one acre where the warrior creek meeting now stands. witnesses:  reuben kelley; john ashley.  signed by :  anna garrett; john ashley; john garrett; jesse garrett; stephen mullings; stephen garrett; robinson moore; hosea garrett; nicholas garrett; edward garrett; mary moore; james garrett; george hughes; william garrett; johnson harriss.   johnson harris married anna garrett, daughter of edward garrett and his wife, anna.   laurens co, sc deed book J, page 132, 1810, edward harriss to johnson harriss for $400, 150 acres on warrior creek bordered on william vaughan, part of grant in 1771 to john cox.  witnesses:  reuben vaughan; salley garrett. stephen garrett, j.p.      i also learn from mary, who, again, descends from her/ our john and sarah goode harris mc lauglin that the fact that her/ our sarah goode harris mc lauglin was named sarah "goode" harris mc laughlin was on her tombstone in perry co, al and that the "goode" name had been carried down in her mc laughlin family.    another thing i also learned from mary is that we also have the same/ related cannon family.   my charles harris, son of my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers and father of my archibald harris/ elizabeth carter, married in 1807 in pendleton co, sc my jane cannon, daughter of my richard cannon/ elizabeth cole, son of my simcock cannon.   mary descend from our richard cannon's/ elizabeth coles brother russell cannon also of pendleton co, sc via his son william cannon of kemper co, ms.     her james mc laughlin, son of her/ our john and sarah goode harris mc laughlin married 1st in perry co, al serena tubb; married 2nd in kemper co, ms her celia cannon, daughter of william cannon/ selah/ celia barton, who were also from pendleton co, sc.   the info per the lunenburg/ charlotte co, va records show that my william harris, sr/ frances goode was also involved with edward harris, sr and/ or the same individuals also there but edward harris, sr is NOT shown to have been the father of my william harris, sr/ frances goode.   instead, these lunenburg/ mecklenburg  co, va deeds and records  show that my wiliam harris, sr/ frances goode my william harris, sr/ frances goode was primarily involved with his father, my william harris/ judith hudson and these same individuals and families.   then, again, there is this 1750 halfax co, va dodson survey for this land on wynn creek for william harris, sr and jr, which became a patent to my william harris, sr/ frances goode which confirms, per the records, that my william harris, sr/ frances goode was the son of my william harris/ judith hudson.   of course, i am still hopeful that i will still be able to locate another harris descendant of one of the other sons of my william harris/ judith hudson to also participate in the harris dna project.   i have thought, and still do, given the controversy i have encountered and as i am the only one who has worked on my/ our specific harris line and family, that it was important for me to come on harris hunters and to talk about my research and what i know and i have noted.   again, i still do not have all the answers but i do know what my research has definitely shown and indicated to me and, again that it is:    that it was my william harris, sr/ frances goode who was the son of my william harris/ judith hudson also of lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va and that it was my william harris/ judith hudson who was the son of our william harris/ mary giles.   i also, though, want to still talk about this william harris/ mary of goochland co, va because i believe the info does show that he is/ was also probably part of our captain thomas harris' harris line and family and that this william harris/ mary of hanover/ louisa/ goochland co, va is indicated to have been the son of edward harris, brother of our william harris/ mary giles.   again, it is also indicated to have been this william harris/ mary of goochland co, va who was the father of this sherwood harris/ hannah page; this gilliam harris; and of their sister, agnes harris, who married john cawthon.   to be continued:   belva harris cauthen harris dna group 8--------26910

    1. [HARRIS-HUNTERS] reply again to carol re wilminton harris, etc, # 6
    2. here again, and to repeat, is the info from the equity records of edgefield co, sc showing that richard winn was the son-in-law of james hall of lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va and who was the same jame hall, who had moved to and died in 1794 in edgefield co, sc.   again, this was the same james hall, who my william harris, sr/ frances goode, had sold this land to in this middle fork of the middle bluestone creek area and other info i have posted in the past also connects james hall and his uncle stephen evans with both my william harris, sr/ frances goode and my william harris/ judith hudson as well as with my mackerness goode, sr there in lunenburg co, va.   for example, here again is info from the lunenburg co, va court orders book showing that my william harris, sr/ frances goode; my william harris/ judith hudson; john wilborn; stephen evans and/ or any three of them were to value the land of daniel williams in lunenburg co, va.   this is from the lunenburg co, va court orders book 4, 1755-1757: page 171: ordered that stephen evans; william harris/ (judith hudson)/ john wilborn; william harris, finneywood, (my william harris, sr/ frances goode) or any three of them to value the land of daniel williams in this county, 1755. also this item from cumberland parish/ lunenburg co, va vestry book records: Precinct # 25: ordered that william harris, finneywood, and william harris, woodpecker, and stephen evans meet and procession the land between the bluestone creek; the parish line and the roanoke river, 1759.     again, the equity records of edgefield co, sc show that richard winn was the son-in-law of james hall and richard winn/ sarah hall had stayed in mecklenburg co, va and, as shown, to follow, richard winn was involved with the estate of my judith hudson harris.   Source: Genealogical Abstracts of Edgefield Co, SC Equity Court Records: "William HALL vs Richard WINN. Many of defendants, children of Miles HALL, Richard WINN, Thomas HOLLOWAY, Elizabeth POOLE, Patsy HALL, Armstead HALL reside out of state, they are given three months to plead from the publication of this notice in Richmond Enquier. Mary SNEAD et al vs Jane COBB & others. Mary HART, Cecilia HART, Claiborne.(no second page)." Note: This information is at the end of a much larger record between Susanna RAMBO and other names that intermarried with the known families.   here is also, again, info re the estate of my judith hudson harris.   The inventory of William Harris, deceased was not brought to  court until 1796 Book 3, p. 384. It appears this must mean that the estate  remained  intact until the death of the widow, Judith Harris  WILLS  Book 3 p. 384 1788-1798  Estate of the late William Harris, deceased brought in Nov. 9,  1796 by  William Lucas, Richard Ragsdale, Richard Winn then returned Nov.  1797.  Includes: Slaves: Lucy, Cate, George, [with Judith in 1790 -  pat]  Aley and child Letty, and Moses,  also Ritter, John, Tisha,  Nancy and a second Lucy.  5 Walnut tables 2 glass bottles  6 flagged  chairs 2 books  2 pine chests 1 parcel of pewter  1 gun 2 pine  chests  1 bed and furniture 1 bay horse  1 bed and furniture and much  else  Wills Book 4 p. 1412 1798-1802 Estate of William Harris deceased, property sold by William  Hudson and  William Harris, *****1798 June 6th Debts:  To Thomas Vaughan at suit of Duncan and Co   To Boyd and Voucher To Robert Harris To Claiborne Harris To William  Harris To Richard Allen To William Mumford and others  also to John  Cox for crying the estate Credit:  Celia and child sold to Samuel  Harris George sold to Robert Harris******************* Moses sold to  Manly Allgood Lucy sold to Claiborne Harris Little Lucy and Nancy, also to  above  Cate to Sherwood Harris Letitia to Reuben  Harris************************* Ritter to Samuel Harris  Jonathan,  also In the settlement in 1798, Reuben acquires  Letitia.    On his tax list in 1799 is 'Titia' over 12 and under  16.   In 1830, Titia is in his will, per the chancery suit of 1852,  and in 1852 'Titia' goes to Martha Harris Puryear. a laurens co, sc deed shows that my william harris, sr/ frances goode had died by 1796 but, again, except that he did NOT die in laurens co, sc, i do NOT know where he died?    so, he was not the william harris involved with my william harris/ judith hudson's estate there in mecklenburg co, va, along with william hudson, there in 1796/ 1798 and, apparently, also not my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers who died in 1799 laurens co, sc.    i have not been and am  still NOT able to identify this william harris involved with the estate of my judith hudson harris,  except, again, to say that he was definitely not my william harris, sr/ frances goode or his son, my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers who died in 1799 in laurens co, sc.     obviously this william harris would have been definitely related to my judith hudson harris.   again, my william harris/ judith hudson had 10 sons and everyone of them, including my william harris, sr/ frances goode could or did have a son named william harris.   again, as i have said many times in the past, despite having obtained this ca 1770 grant in laurens co, sc, there is NO evidence that my william harris, sr/ frances goode ever moved to laurens co, sc or that he died there.   for all i know and have been able to learn, he may have stayed in this lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va area and may have even re-married and had a son, william harris, jr by a 2nd wife.     there are things i still just do NOT know.   what i do know, however, is this:    per every thing i have studied, noted and learned and have continued to learn re these lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va records, and have talked about and shown somewhat incessantly now on harris hunters, is:    that my willam harris, sr/ frances goode is definitely shown and indicated to have been the son of my william harris/ judith hudson also of lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va.   again, there is also this 1750 dodson survey for this land on wynn creek for william harris, sr and jr, which became a patent to my william harris, sr/ frances goode in 1758, which does confirm that this was my william harris, sr/ frances goode who was the son of my william harris/ judith hudson.   to be continued:   belva harris cauthen harris dna group 8------26910

    2. To those who are interested in Dabneys of Virginia: This is the source of the following record: Michael L. Cook and Bettie A. Cook, Kentucky Court of "Appeals Deed Books A-G, Vol. I [Evansville, IN: Cook Publications, 1985], p. 101 p. 307 [of Ky Ct of Appeals] George Dabney and Charles Dabney of Hanover County, Virginia, appoint William Dabney, Jr. of Kentucky as their true and lawful attorney in fact for the purpose of establishing their right and title to all the lands patented in their names or the name of either of them in Kentucky, to defend them against any claim to which any persons may have or make to said lands, and to prosecute in any suit for the attainment of that end, to lease out such lands as he may think expedient, and to perform whatever he may think necessary for their interest in said lands. November 15, 1797. Recorded November 15, 1797, Hanover County, and January 1, 1798 by the Kentucky Court of Appeals. Submitted by E.W.Wallace PS If you are missing some ancestors--or their collaterals--these publications about Kentucky by the Cooks may provide a clue. Virginians and North Carolinians, also Pennsylvanians and Marylanders poured into Kentucky, especially speculators. 1. [HARRIS-HUNTERS] Comparing Neighbors of New Kent Co. with some in later Hanver Co.
    2. Sandy Hart has helped us--or confused us-- a good deal by extracting references to Harris males from the Road Orders prepared by the Viriginia Board of Transportation. One of these extracts for NEW KENT Co. reads as follows: Nov. 30, 1763, N.S., no original pagination visible [new pagination p. 308; Chamberlayne pp. 416-417] [Boundaries of Processioning Precinct No. 6] . . . Lands of James Cawthon, James Crenshaw, John Spraddling, Nicholas Gentry, Samuel Pryor, W;m Berry?s Orphans, William Cawthon, James Philips, William Harris, and that James Mitchell and William Morrice do see the said processioning performed, and return the proceedings according to Law Pursuant to the Above Order, M,r Mitchel being Absent, the Subscriber hath Seen the Lands above mention?d, procession?d, betwixt Beever Creek, and the River, to Ash Cake Road; which ncludes Other Lands, not Mentioned in the Order William Morris My comments - help me with analysis, if you wish, as this is NOT documentation but *testing an hypothesis* Hanover Co. was formed from New Kent Co. in 1721, but most records were destroyed by fire in 1865. A few remainng records have been transcribed and published by Mrs. Rosalie Edith Davis. Some of these surnames, including Harris, appear in the court records 1733-1735. These are not necessarily the persons listed above, but they may be their descendants. It has been fairly well established that Major Robert Harris, later surveyor of Louisa Co., VA, had roots in Hanover Co. Help me compare these surnames with those above: These are the names of persons who appear in the court records of Hanover Co. 1733-1735 Cawthorn, Richard and Thomas Crenshaw, David, John and Thomas Spradling (Spradlin), Andrew, John [refers to admin bond and appraisement of estate] Mary [probably widow of John as she appears on same page] Gentry (Gentrey) James, Nicholas, Samuel Pryor, Benja., John, Samuel Philips, James, Katherine, Richard, Dr. William [Mrs. Davis: see Filips, Fillops] Filips, James Fillops (Filiph) George Mitchell Morrice or Morris Berry George, Thomas HARRIS [many]: David Edward Elizabeth [my note: wife of James] George J. James John John Jr. Mourning [wife of Robert] Richard [many references] Robert [many references] Robert, Jr. Sarah Stephen Thomas William [many references] I suspect Boundaries of Processioning Precinct No. 6 in New Kent Co. later became part of Hanover Co.
