again, this william rawlins was one of those who, as just shown, who paid the security re the will and estate of our related james hudson, sr there in 1765 in charlotte co, va and, again, per the post by ron bourassa, this was the same william rawlins also involved with henry may and richard palmer. again, this was my william harris, sr/ frances goode, who acquired a patent there in lunenburg co, va in 1752 for a 1000 acres and in 1755, he sold 900 of these acres to william reade. this was also, again, my william harris, sr/ frances goode, who in 1746 there in lunenburg co, va had the agreement with william marable re his plantation, finneywood, and was his overseer for several years. so, again, this would have also been my william harris, sr/ frances goode, who, along with william marable and henry may, witnessed this lunenburg co, va deed re william reade to john hight. lunenburg co, va deed book 4, page 213, 1755, william harris of lunenburg co, va to william reade of same for 160 pds, 900 acres at the head branches of the bluestone creek, bounded by a new line, william tibbs, william harriss' old line. signed: william harriss. witnesses: robert wooding; thomas bedford; william jones. frances, wife of william harris, relinquised her right of dower. lunenburg co, va deed book 4, page 201, 1755, william reade of lunenburg co, va to john hight of same for 16 pds, 100 acres in lunenburg on the head branches of the bluestone creek, being part of a tract of land patented in the name of william harris on nov 13, 1752 and by him conveyed to me by a deed yesterday and bounded by new lines. signed: william reade. witnesses: william marable; henry may; william harris. again, these connections re john hight and our harrises and also involving our related edward harris, sr also there in lunenburg/ charlotte co, va, and whose sons, stephen harris and edward harris, jr also moved to laurens co, sc, are also more involved but i will not repost all of that info for now. again, it was also john hight/ mary reade's son reade hight who signed the marriage bond re david harris' marriage to rebecca gilbert in burke co, nc and this david harris was the son of minyard harris, son of our related edward harris, sr also of lunenburg/ charlotte co, va. frankly, there is not much about any of these connections there in this southside lunenburg/ halifax/ mecklenburg cos, va area, etc, that is not more involved period. to be continued: belva harris cauthen harris dna group 8-------26910

i have also talked about this william harris/ mary of louisa/ goochland co, va whose son sherwood harris married hannah page and moved to granville co, va and i have posted info on harris hunters, including goochland co, va deeds showing that besides this sherwood harris, william harris/ mary also had a son gilliam harris and also this is stated to have been their daughter, agnes harris, who married john cawthon. to repeat, i am a harris married to a cauthen and i do not know if my husband's cauthen line and family was related to this cawthon family of goochland/ hanover cos, va or not. both my william harris/ judith hudson of brunswick/ lunenburg cos, va and this william harris/ mary of louisa/ goochland cos, va could NOT possibly be the sons, william, of our william harris/ mary giles. it is my brother david harris who is participating in the harris dna project and this was my/ our william harris, sr/ frances goode who was the son of my/ our william harris/ judith hudson both of lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va, confirmed, per the records, including, again, also this 1750 dodson survey for this land on wynn creek, and by our harris dna and, likewise, also confirmed by the records, including this brunswick co, va deed wherein my william harris/ judith hudson sold this land to stephen harris and, again, confirmed also by our harris dna this is/ was my/ our william harris/ judith hudson who was the son, william, of our william harris/ mary giles. however, in my looking at this info re this william harris/ mary of louisa/ goochland co, va and his involved connections with our harris family and the cawthons, george alvis and his son, david alvis, there in hanover/ goochland cos, va, i have to agree with others i have and continue to correspond with re william harris/ mary of louisa/ goochland co, va that he is also related harris family re our captain thomas harris' line and family. again, the only way that this william harris/ mary of louisa/ goochland cos, va could also be part of our captain thomas harris' harris line and family is that he was the son of our william harris/ mary giles' brother, edward harris and i would say probably also by his 1st wife, also named, mary. this is also certainly indicated, again, by these hanover co, va records as, again, it was our william harris/ mary giles' brother, edward harris, who was more involved there in hanover co, va with david alvis and the crenshaws. again, after our alice died, george alvis is stated to have married mary crenshaw. here, again, is info, for example, from the st paul's vestry book connecting edward harris. brother of our william harrid/ mary giles with david alvis and william cawthon. According to the St. Paul’s Vestry in 1735, Benjamin Johnson was assigned the tithables of John Price, Tho. The Harlows are not mentioned, but Thomas and Benjamin do seem to be living in the same area as in 1731. 1739 was the year of another similar processioning order. again, here are also the henrico co, va deeds re our william harris/ mary giles (?) and his brother, edward harris, and his wife also named, mary, sons of our major william harris, by his 2nd wife, alice, who, again, remarried george alvis. again, by his 1st wife, unknown, our major william harris also had a son thomas harris, who died unmarried and without issue in 1679 in henrico co, va. i also want it to be noted that in 1751 that edward harris was enumerated in lydall bacon's district per these lunenburg co, va tithe lists. these connections re lydall bacon and his daughter lucy bacon's marriage to charles allen, jr re my/ our harris family are not just more involved there in this lunenburg co, va area but, again, also on into laurens co, sc. again, i have talked about this also on harris hunters but to remention just briefly for now, this was my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers son john l. harris in laurens co, sc who married mary/ polly allen, daughter of charles allen, jr/ lucy bacon, who had also moved there, of course, also from lunenburg co, va. i also want it to be noted that in 1751 john wilborn was also living in lydall bacon's district and, again, i have talked abou this also on harris hunters that both my william harris, sr/ frances goode and his father my william harris/ judith hudson were involved with the will and estate of john wilborn/ judith from 1757-1762 there in lunenburg co, va. again, the same william hudson, who, like my william harris, sr/ frances goode, was one of the executors of my william harris/ judith hudson's will and also the same william hudson who my william harris, sr/ frances goode sold land to in 1759 there in lunenburg co, va was the same william hudson who also moved to laurens / edgefield cos, sc. again, per a laurens co, sc deed i have cited in the past, william hudson gave land in laurens co, sc and rutherford co, nc to his son-in-laws and his daughters: james pool/ ursula hudson; william wilborn; cary hudson; and jeremiah wilborn/ polly hudson. james pool married ursula hudson in 1782 in mecklenburg co, va and this was his brother alexander pool/ angelina crowder who also witnessed my william harris/ judith hudson's 1778 mecklenburg co, va will. neither john wilborn's wife or his children were named in his 1757 lunenburg co, va will but a lunenburg co, va deed shows that john wilborn's wife was named judith and the records of lunenburg co, va show that john wilborn/ judith had a son thomas wilborn, who was bound out to william cox and a daughter susannah wilborn who was bound out either to my william harris, sr/ frances goode or to my william harris/ judith hudson. again, despite being bound out to william cox, thomas wilborn continued to live in this same woodpecker/ bluestone creek area as my william harris/ judith hudson and to be involved there with the same individuals and families. these lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va records show that this william hudson was the brother or 1/2 brother of my judith hudson harris, children of my peter hudson, sr who died in 1752 in halifax co, va. what also confirms this besides, again, all of these other connections and the fact that william hudson was named a son in our peter hudson, sr's will, is that i am recently corresponding with someone who descends from william wilborn/ cary hudson, who died in edgefield co, sc, and they named a son peter hudson wilborn. i am obviously also hopeful that we are going to be able to figure out how his william wilborn/ cary hudson were also related to john wilborn/ judith and their son, thomas wilborn also there in lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va because this is certainly what this info and these connections do show. 1751 sun005.txt - (Part 5) 1751 Tithe List Lydall Bacon's list Edward Harriss ............................................. 1 ************************** ________________________________________ Xpher [Christopher] Johnson ................................ 1 Wm. to continue with these brunswick/ louisa co, va deeds re my william harris/ judith hudson to stephen harris and also re edward harris to this other william harris/ mary also of louisa/ goochland co, va, again, these deeds are written in a distinct, florid style and it also shows that the same person who wrote the deeds also signed these deeds, although seals were also used. this is also very important because, again, our edward harris there in louisa co, va's wife was named ann, which i have just shown, per the previous louisa co, va deed, re edward harris, ann, to william watkins. page 369-70. hello this is partly in reply to sarah's recent post re her claiborne harris in anson co, nc and whether he was the son of my william harris/ judith hudson of lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va, but i have other things to talk about as well. i have, of course, been on harris hunters now for quite some time talking about that the records show and confirm that it was my william harris, sr/ frances goode who was the son, william, of my william harris/ judith hudson, who died in 1778 in mecklenburg co, va. again, besides the fact that my william harris, sr/ frances goode was named as his son in my william harris/ judith hudson's 1778 mecklenburg co, va will and all the other connections i have talked about relative to this, there is also this 1750 dodson survey for the land on wynn creek for my william harris/ judith hudson and my william harris, sr/ france goode, which became a patent to my william harris, sr/ frances goode in 1758, which he sold, per several halifax co, va deeds, to john camp. again we are participating in the harris dna project and my brother david harris is a match with those in harris dna group 8, tracing back to our captain thomas harris 1611 of jamestown and his son, our major william harris, who was killed by the indians in 1678 in henrico co, va. sarah, your harris cousin is a match, as you say, with harris dna group 4. again, we are in harris dna group 8. i am not going to go into all of this again either but the info definitely shows that those of us who descend from our captain thomas harris and his son, our major william harris, who was killed by the indians in 1678 in henrico co, va, would do so by our major william harris' 2nd wife, alice, and their sons, our william harris/ mary giles b ca 1672 and his brother, edward harris b ca 1674. again, our alice, widow of our major william harris, remarried george alvis and moved with him and our william harris/ mary giles (?) and brother edward harris, whose 1st wife was also named mary, to new kent/ hanover co, va. i believe that the records, again, show, and confirmed by our harris dna, that despite what has been written in the past, and will say more about this, that it was my william harris/ judith hudson who was the son of our william harris/ mary giles. in the past and even in the recent past, it has been said and believed that it was this william harris/ mary also of louisa and goochland cos, va who was the son of our william harris/ mary giles and----- in fact, speaking of------ this was also this william harris/ mary's son, sherwood harris/ hannah page of goochland co, va, who was in anson co, nc-------NOT the sherwood harris, who was the son of my william harris/ judith hudson. again, re my willliam harris/ judith hudson of brunswick/ lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va and this william harris/ mary of louisa/ goochland co, va and as i have also talked about and posted also before on harris hunters, there are these two very relevant and pertinent louisa co, va deeds. again, at the same time in 1743 that edward harris sold land in louisa co, va to this william harris/ mary also of louisa/ goochland co, va, my william harris/ judith hudson, who were in 1743 in brunswick co, va, which becamed lunenburg co, va by 1746, sold land also in louisa co, va to stephen harris of st martin's parish in hanover co, va . this stephen harris is also shown to have been a son of our william harris/ mary giles and there are also descendants of stephen harris who are also participating in our harris dna project and who, again, are a harris group 8 dna match. some one recently found these deeds at the library there in richmond and sent me actual copies of these louisa co, va deeds re edward harris to william harris/ mary also of louisa/ goochland co, va and also re my william harris/ judith hudson of brunswick co, va to stephen harris of hanover co, va. these deeds are written in a somewhat florid style and, for me, not easy to read both for the style of writing and/ or the language used but i am going to talk about the things that are easily seen and can be noted. first of all, the 1743 deed re my william harris/ judith hudson to stephen harris does say for sure that he was of brunswick co, va. my william harris/ judith hudson sold his 62 acres there in louisa co, va to stephen harris of st martin's parish, hanover co, va on the 3rd day of august in 1743 and edward harris sold the 50 acres to the william harris/ mary of louisa/ goochland co, va on the 5th day of august in 1743. although edward harris sold his land to william harris on august 5th and my william harris/ judith hudson sold the land to stephen harris on august 3rd, it was edward harris' deed which was recorded first on pages 105 and 106 and my william harris/ judith hudson's deed to stephen harris was recorded on pages 107 and 108 and these are subsequent deeds. again, the fact that these are subsequent deeds to me is definitely significant. the deed re edward harris to william harris does mention that it begins at Dabney's corner white oak, etc, and deed does say that it is where edward harris "now liveth". there are no witnesses to edward harris' sale to william harris. both of these tracts of land are said to have been in the parish of fredericksville in the county of louisa and the deed re my william harris/ judith hudson to stephen harris says: bounded as follows by beginning at a corner of several ? white oak saplings running? north 45 degrees.... i cannot see that either one of these deeds state that this land was on cubb creek but the 1749 louisa co, va deed re our edward harris, wife, ann, to william watkins, cited below, states not only that edward harris was the son of our william harris/ mary giles, but that his land was on cubb creek. the deed re my william harris/ judith hudson to stephen harris was witnessed by richard henderson; james woody; and john adams, his mark. again, the following louisa co, va deeds also place this same richard henderson and this same john adams in this same cubb creek area and involved there also with our harris family on cubb creek. Sandra Hart wrote about her California Harrises: Message: 1 Date: Sun, 22 Feb 2009 08:38:46 -0800 From: Sandra Hart <[email protected]> Subject: [HARRIS-HUNTERS] Dr. Ephraim Drake Harris, Sr To: [email protected] Message-ID: <[email protected]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed; delsp=yes I am looking for information about Dr. Ephraim Drake Harris, Sr. He was born ~1816 in NC and died Nov 21, 1865 in Santa Rosa, Sonoma Co, CA. His first wife may have been Martha E. Smith. They had a son, Morgan C (born ~1841 in MO). In 1850, he was a widower, living with his son in Cass Co, MO. He came to CA by wagon train in the early 1850s, settling in Mendocino Co. He married his second wife, Sarah Ann Hardin there and they had two additional children: Sarah Henne (1854-1868) and Ephraim Drake, Jr. (1860-11911). After Dr Harris' death, his widow Sarah Ann remarried my GGgrandfather, Benjamin Wesley Hunt. They had several more children, living in Blucher Valley, Mendocino, Analy, and Santa Rosa in CA until their deaths. I have found a number of men in the late 1890s and early 1900s living in CA with similar names who might have been somehow related, but I haven't tried very hard to track them down because I have no idea how they might have been related (e.g., Ephraim Drake Harris, a priest, Drake Edwin Harris, Ira Drake Harris). I also found an Ephraim D. Harris listed in the Surviving Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines, and Widows, etc section of the 1890 Census of Washington, Laclede, MO (yes, 1890 - - the first time I've ever found anything in the 1890 census!). He was listed as a Private in Company C, 110th IL regiment in the infantry. He enlisted Aug 4, 1863 and was discharged Sep 30, 1864. I don't think this was my man, however, as mine was probably living in California with his wife and children during the Civil War. Also, it seems off to me that a 40-year-old physician would have enlisted as a private. I assume that these Edwin/Ephraim/Edwin Drake Harrises must have been given family names and were associated with the same Harris family. Can anyone identify this family? My response: I cannot answer your Harris questions. However, many local genealogical societies--for a donation--will research your question(s). But you have to determine these facts first: 1) Does that county where you are searching have a genealogical/historical society? 2) What records for that county or those counties exist, perhaps on film at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City? Let those lists of topics for each county be your guideline. I did some preliminary research of the availability of records of Santa Rosa and of Sonoma Co., California by using the Family History Library Catalog on _www.familysearch.org_ (http://www.familysearch.org) I clicked on the tab labeled Library and then clicked on the last item--Catalog. Then I did a PLACE search for both counties. There are quite a variety of records [films mostly] for both of those counties. You might like to have someone local take a look at the voter registrations for those counties. Some of us still like to do research the old fashioned way--by writing letters and asking about researchers, etc. There are a number of professional genealogists who are headquartered in or around Salt Lake City Utah, but it may be well to start at the California county level. That is, write to the local California genealogical society [the internet may produce some addresses] and asking about whether anyone in that county is willing to undertake some research for you. Just remember these members do not do this for free as there is generally travel and parking, etc. to pay for, plus photocopying. Ask about fees. William Dollarhide, professional genealogist and author, reminds us that in the early years of this country, about 90% of the white population owned land, and he is great on land records. I personally favor those records also, but probates are not to be overlooked. Tax records are good. A friend of mine, a librarian-author-lecturer, tells me when she goes to the FH Library in Salt Lake City, she seeks out genealogies and county histories. More and more county histories are being put on the internet--I use HeritageQuest through my local library--so don't overlook those resources. They are frequently flawed but still useful. I have found some *goodies* which broke down brick walls for me by using old county histories!!! Just check the *facts* given in those volumes against the official records, if at all possible. I wish you luck in your search for early Californians. One has to keep in mind that California belonged to the Spanish and then the Mexican government (and even Russia in northern Calfironia). By the way, some of the early Anglo residents of California kept miscellaneous personal and business records. The Universities in California, as well as the Sutro Library in San Francisco, may have some of these manuscripts, account books, etc. I hope this helps. I have been reviewing the information on the Sherwood Harris that died in Anson County N. C. in 1805 and who supposedly had 3 or maybe two wives. What proof is there that he was born in 1733? Is there a tombstone in Anson Co. that says that, a family Bible? or is this just someone's supposition from perhaps a census that they surmise is the same Sherwood who died in 1805? Does anyone know for sure what DNA group he is in? Since my Claiborne Harris was in Anson Co. and also in Marshall Co. MS where there was a Sherwood who is thought to be the son of this Sherwood, then it is possible that they are related--perhaps brothers? I have thought perhaps that my Claiborne was son of William and Judith Hudson Harris because of similar names that I have of Claiborne's children. However if Sherwood (N. C. d. 1805) was born in 1733 and I'm pretty certain that my Claiborne was born around 1760 that means that Judith would have been bearing children for 30 years or more since the Claiborn in the William Harris will is about the 3rd child from the youngest. Does anyone have proof of the dates of Judith and/or William's birthdates? We know that William died 1778(I don't have the will before me so it may have been 1779 and Judith in 1799. Also Sherwood wasn't the first child of William and Judith. If anyone can shed light on this I'd appreciate it. I know from experience with my old Claiborne (d. 1833) that one can get the Claiborne's mixed up. (Kathryn Wiggins did) My Claiborne had a Claiborne born 1797/98, Old Claiborne's son James had a son named Claiborne and old Claiborne's son Dorrel Young Harris had a son Stephen Claiborne named after his two brothers (Stephen and Claiborne--or perhaps his father and brother) Old Claiborne's grandson died in 1853, the son Claiborne died after 1870. Because of all these that can be mixed up I am thinking that perhaps the Claiborne Harris who married Sally Hudson in 1789? (again I'm not looking at my papers) may have been the grandson of William and Judith Hudson Harris. I don't think anyone knows whether this Sally (Sarah) Hudson was related to Judith or not. There is also a James who had a son Claiborne in Warren Co. N. C. who might possibly be the son of William and Judith Harris since James was one of the older sons who was already out of the nest by the time the will was made. This James might possibly be the brother of my Claiborne. If we could know for sure that William was in Group 4 then all this might fit. I know that William/Judith Hudson Harris are thought to be in group 8 but is this positive or just supposition. Anyway, if someone knows for sure that this Sherwood was born in 1805 please let me know how you know. Thanks, Sarah Harris Andrews Group 4 ____________________________________________________________ Thinking of a life with religion? I am looking for information about Dr.
Does anyone have any information on Anita Margaret Harris who was born in May 1919 in Milton, Umatilla County, Oregon. She is the daughter of George Hugh Harris and Millie Hunter. I would specifically like to know if she married and had children. Would also like to know when and where she died. Thanks ~ Gloria **************A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. I have just transcribed an application for bounty land by a sister of Lt. Arthur Harris, who served in the Maryland Continental Line during the Revolutionary War. Included is a copy of Arthur Harris's will dated 10 Mar 1787 naming his brothers and sisters. The transcription should be available tomorrow [10 Feb] or the next day at _www.southerncampaign.org/pen_ (http://www.southerncampaign.org/pen) listed in the index as "Arthur Harris BLWt1271-200." I believe Harris served at the Battle of Camden in South Carolina. If anyone has any information on his service, please let me know. Leon Harris **************A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. again, i have recently been on harris hunters talking about the our new harris group 8 dna match and how this definitely relates to my own specific harris line and family not just there in gwinnett and paulding cos, ga but also back to laurens co, sc and, finally, also to my william harris, sr/ frances goode and my william harris/ judith hudson in lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va. so, i want to finish talking about and showing this information. to recap, several children of alexander rutledge/ elizabeth miller married the children of william harris/ lucinda rawlins there in gwinnett co, ga and our new harris group 8 dna match descends from william harris/ lucinda rawlins there in gwinnett co, ga. the info shows that joseph rutledge, who had moved to gwinnett co, ga from abbeville co, sc and who was the father of alexander rutledge/ elizabeth miller, was the uncle of william rutledge who owned land that bordered abbeville and laurens co, sc. the info shows that larkin gaines witnessed william rutleges' 1823 laurens co, sc will and that both larkin gaines and possibly my archibald harris/ elizabeth carter, and, again, i do not know another archibald harris who would have been in laurens co, sc, were purchasers at elizabeth simmons walker's 1821 laurens co, sc estate sale. the following laurens co, sc deed shows that aaron crump sold land to william rutledge there in laurens co, sc that bordered on allen mitchell. then, the following deed shows that william wilborn sold land to allen mitchell. william wilborn and his brother, jeremiah wilborn, and james pool were the son-in-laws of william hudson, who was the son also of our peter hudson, sr and 1/2 brother of my judith hudson harris and who, again, was one of the executors, along with my william harris, sr/ frances goode, his brother reuben harris, and mark moore of my william harris/ judith hudson's 1778 mecklenburg co, va will. again, the following laurens co, sc deed shows that william hudson gave land there in laurens co, sc and rutherford co, nc to his son-in-laws: james poole; william wilborn; and jeremiah wilborn. again, the info shows that james pool married ursula hudson, daughter of william hudson in 1782 in mecklenburg co, va and although i cannot confirm, william wilborn and his brother, jeremiah wilborn, are definitely indicated to have been related to john wilborn/ judith and their son, thomas wilborn who continued to live in this woodpecker creek/ bluestone creek area near my william harris/ judith hudson. again, both my william harris, sr/ frances goode and my william harris/ judith hudson were involved with the will and estate of john wilborn/ judith from 1757-1761 there in lunenburg co, va. this was also james pool's brother alexander pool who witnessed my william harris/ judith hudson's 1778 mecklenburg co, va will. again, as shown, per these lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va deeds, my william harris, sr/ frances goode sold land to john smith, which was witnessed by benjamin ragsdale and abraham crowder. the records of mecklenburg co, va show that alexander pool and his brother james pool, sons of an alexander pool, who died in 1767 in mecklenburg co, va, were bound out to benjamin ragsdale and richard ragsdale. the info also shows that alexander pool married angelina crowder, daughter of dr abraham crowder. the lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va deeds show that both my william harris, sr/ frances goode and his brother james harris were involved with this same abraham crowder family. finally, this mecklenburg co, va deed shows that both abraham crowder, sr and jr and james harris, who is also definitely indicated to have been the brother of my william harris, sr/ frances goode and also son of my william harris/ judith hudson, witnessed the mecklenburg co, va deed re mark moore to thomas spain. again, mark moore, who, again, was also an executor of my william harris/ judith hudson's 1778 mecklenburg co, va will, married rachel ragsdale, daughter of benjamin ragsdale, and moved with this brother-in-law, peter ragsdale, also to laurens co, sc and laurens co, sc and, again, deeds i have posted in the past shows that peter ragsdale and mark moore were also involved with my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers and our mackerness goode, sr or jr also in laurens co, sc. this was also peter ragsdale's son, elijah ragsdale, who moved to paulding co, ga and who was also involved with my james harris/ anne cooper also there in paulding co, ga. by showing these connections re the rutledge family with their william harris/ lucinda rawlins there in gwinnett co, ga, again, on back to laurens co, sc and finally, as i have just shown, back to lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va totally confirms as i have talked about for a long time now on harris hunters my own harris family connections. sorry, to say, however what i cannot do is to say who the father of their william harris/ lucinda rawlins was and how they seemingly relate to my specific harris line and family but i would suggest that they keep looking at my specific harris line and family to perhaps and hopefully make a definite connection. 24 Sept. 1813 Aaron Crump sold 133 ac. to William Rutledge for $300. as above adjoining Josiah Box, Cornelius Cook.
