Dear Harris Researchers: Rootsweb has been encouraging some of the surname lists to split up into regions of the world (such as U.S., UK, etc.). Also variations of spelling have now been divided into their own lists in the last few years. Since many of the Harris Researchers in early Virginia have ties back to Essex County in the United Kingdom, especially around the area of Creeksea, I have started a new surname list on Rootsweb called the Harris-UK-Essex list. The HARRIS-UK-ESSEX mailing list is for the discussion and sharing of information regarding the Harris surname and variations in Essex County, in the United Kingdom. You can subscribe to this list in mail mode by sending a message to HARRIS-UK-ESSEX-L-request@rootsweb.com that contains the word subscribe and nothing else in the body of the message. If you prefer digest mode, you should send the command instead to HARRIS-UK-ESSEX-D-request@rootsweb.com and the word subscribe and nothing else in the body of the message. To post messages to everyone on both HARRIS-UK-ESSEX-L and HARRIS-UK-ESSEX-D, messages should be sent to HARRIS-UK-ESSEX-L@rootsweb.com. Messages sent there will appear both places. You are welcome to belong to both the Harris e-mail list (which you are already on) and the Harris-UK-Essex e-mail list. We will continue to try to funnel genealogy messages about Harrises in the U.S. and elsewhere to the Harris list. And information on Harrises in Essex, UK and related localities to the Harris-UK-ESSEX list.
