1. [HARRIS] Future Freedmen Project postings
2. Hi Joe and list members, One of the problems I had with the Freedmen Project was keeping all the previous surname list I have done up to date with the new info I was moving on to. Usally I come to a list, post the project, and then wait a few days for follow up questions, and then I move on. I could not stay on all those surname list, so I had to do something. So what I did was I created 25 STATE-FREEDMEN-L at Rootsweb. They are from New York to Indiana and all states below, east of the Mississippi. This way list members can subscribe in digest or list mode, to there state, and never miss a name I will be posting. But they must visit the surname list to get the info, after I have given the notice. I give the state list advance notice to all future postings. On the state list a subscriber can visit the archive and see the COMPLETE ROLLS of the: 1902 Dawes Freedmen 1906 Dawes Freedmen Minors 1869 CNWest Census 1880 CNWColored census I then created a screen, just for the Freedmen Project only.Which you can send your questions to. It is: FreedmenProject@aol.com As a special part of the Project, only ROOTSWEB SURNAME list will recieve the surname reports, for their particular surname. Finally there will be only one website which will host the complete FREEDMEN PROJECT and all the surname reports as well as any special work done in the future. I will hopefully this weekend get the website information posted to all of the state list taglines, reguarding that site. It is still under construction. Mr Dan Stayton of the CHEROKEE-L has worked many, many hours on this site. Cherokee Genealogy http://www.wvi.com/~wb/Cherokee.html So should anyone want to subscribe to their state list, just go to : EXAMPLE NY-FREEDMEN-L@rootsweb.com OK-FREEDMEN-L@rootsweb.com, or any of the others. Bright Star Freedmen Project
