According to the book "Generals in Gray", Nathaniel Harrison Harris was born at Natchez, Mississippi on August 22, 1834. Among other things, the passage says that he was a law graduate of the University of Louisiana (now Tulane). According to this source, he never married and died in 1900. The passage does not offer anything about his background, but one would think that, given he was presented with the means to attend college and/or law school, more information about his family background can be found. Hope that is at least a bit helpful.
