HELP! I thought I had found my brick-wall gg-grandmother Susan Harris DALE, but I was mistaken. Maybe someone on this list can help me sort out these DALE men and HARRIS women. Too much information!! **** Charles C. DALE - according to an IGI record, Charles C. DALE was born in Worcester Co Maryland on 23 May 1819. All census records found so far do indicate that he was born in Maryland about 1819. He died in 1903 while visiting children in Missouri Charles C. DALE married Susan HARRIS in Wilson County, Tennessee, on 27 October 1838 (marriage bond signed). Charles C. DALE and Thomas SCOTT signed the marriage bond. The text of the bond indicated Susan HARRIS was a resident of Wilson County, but didn't indicate the residence of Charles DALE or Thomas SCOTT. Charles C. DALE married his second wife, Tamazine Finley JONES, Nov 1848 in Fannin Co TX . They were living in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, in 1850, then moved to Red River County, Texas. **** John P. (possibly Pitts) DALE, born 3 August 1816 in Maryland or Tennessee, depending on the census record used; died 14 April 1887 in Red River Co TX. John P. DALE married (1) Elizabeth R. HARRIS in Wilson County, Tennessee, on 24 June 1840. Charles DALE signed the marriage bond. Elizabeth was born ?? in ??, and died about 1846 in Red River Co TX. John P. and Elizabeth R. Harris DALE settled in Red River County, Texas. When Elizabeth died, John returned to Wilson County, Tennessee, and married (2) Adaline Howard CRADDOCK on 5 July 1847. He and his new wife then returned to Red River county. Adaline Howard Craddock DALE was born in ?? about 1825 and died in 1911 in Red River County, TX. **** Thomas H. DALE (b. ??, d. ??), said to be the brother of John P. DALE, also married a Susan HARRIS (b. ??, d. ??). According to an IGI record, Thomas H. DALE married S. HARRIS in Lamar County, Texas, on 6 July 1848. According to deed records, Thomas and Susan DALE were in Lamar Co in January 1855, signing an agreement to sell land. Lamar County adjoins Red River County. **** IGI records and ancestral files that may or may not be relevant contain the following data: Thomas DALE was born in DeKalb County, Tennessee, which adjoins Wilson County, in 1817. His father was William DALE; his mother was Anne PITTS. NOTE: Charles C. DALE named his first daughter Sarah "Sallie" Pitts DALE and his only known son William DALE. Sallie Pitts DALE is my ggrandmother. ** Anne "Nancy" Postley [sic] PITTS was born in St. Martins Parish, Worcester County, Maryland, on 14 April 1784. Her father was Hillary PITTS; her mother was Sally PARKER (Hillary PITTS' 2nd wife). Anne Postly [sic] PITTS married William DALE in Worcester, Maryland, on 19 February 1803. She died in DeKalb County, Tennessee, on 13 September 1858. William DALE was born in Dekalb, Tennessee* on 4 May 1783. He married Nancy, surname unknown, in 1804 in Dekalb County, Tennessee*, and died in Dekalb, Tennessee on 25 September 1845. [*Birth and marriage in Dekalb, TN, may be based on his living there, and having no other information. Otherwise the names and dates are a pretty good fit.] ** Isaac Alexander DALE, born in Worcester County, Maryland, on 21 August 1791, married Catherine PITTS (apparently Anne Postley PITTS' half-sister) in Worcester County, Maryland, on 4 July 1815. Isaac may be the brother of William, mentioned above. Catherine Pitts was born 13 November 1798 in St. Martins Parish, Worcester County, Maryland. Her parents were Hillary PITTS and Catherine PURNELL (Hillary PITTS' 4th wife). Isaac Alexander DALE was born in Worcester County, Maryland, on 21 August 1791. His parents were Thomas DALE and Elizabeth EVANS (IGI record). According to a FamilySearch Ancestral File, Isaac Alexander DALE had brothers named Adam DALE, born 14 July 1768 in Worcester, Maryland; Thomas DALE, born 15 April 1778 in Worcester, Maryland; William DALE born 4 May 1783 in DeKalb, Tennessee; and John E. DALE, born 12 May 1785 in Worcester, Maryland. In a message board posting William is called Rev. William DALE and Adam DALE is referred to as the first settler of Liberty, Smith County, Tennessee. With all these correspondences in names and places, aside from the marriages and purported sibling relationship between John P. and Thomas H. DALE I have NO IDEA how these people fit together.
