The deceased was born November 19, 1820, being at the time of her death, 77 years, 10 months and 16 days old. Mrs. Correll's maiden name was Bacholer, and was born near Washington, Indiana. She first married William P Ballou, and after his death married Henry Correll. Aunt Julia was a member of the M.E. Church for over fifty years, lived a Christian life, and was beloved by her many friends. She leaves two children, Mrs. Oliver Crooke and Mrs. Alex O'Dell. Several children have gone on before her to the other world. Rev., G.F. Culmer conducted the funeral services Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the M.E. He was born in Tuscarawas County, Ohio arriving in Clarksburg in 1859. The subject of this notice in life had endeared himself to all who knew him. In 1842 he embraced religion, and joined the United Brethren Church at Broad Run. His home for many years was a preaching-place in Ohio. He nearly always sustained an official relationship in the church. Truly it could be said of him, he did what he could. Though misfortune was his lot in business, yet few men sacrificed more for the church than Bro. Correll. He was a great worker in the Sunday School. During revivals his voice could be heard above the rest while singing those dear old songs. But he has gone over the river. It was a pleasant gale that wafted him over. Not soon will we forget his last days on this earth. Oh, his exhortations, his cheering words to those who visited him. He leaves a wife, three sons, three brothers, and five sisters to mourn. May heaven bless them." "Obituary" "At his residence, 101 E. Indiana Street, on Wednesday, October 1, 1884, Elder Peter Simmerman died, aged 28 years and 8 months. He leaves a kind and affectionate wife, two little children an a large circle of friends and acquaintances to mourn his loss. Brother Simmerman made a profession of religion eight or nine years ago, and united with a General Baptist Church near Boonville. Two years ago he moved to Evansville(IN) and united with the Independence General Baptist Church. He attended the session of Liberty Association at Oakland City, Friday, September 19, and received a trial license to preach for one year with a view of becoming a candidate for ordination. Brother Simmerman was truly a Christian, practicing in his daily walk what he taught. Brother Simmerman was laid to rest in Locust Hill cemetery. (Evansville, IN 10/4/1884)" "OBITUARY" Dr. Samuel Frederick Harris of our town, (my GGUncle), after a prolonged illness of cosumptionbrought on by kindred disease, died at his home on Main Street here in Odon, at 11 o'clock. Sunday afternoon at the UB Church a tribute to his memory was delivered by Rev., A G Scott and he was laid away in the Odon Cemetery. Dr. Harris was but 25 years old, but had been a sufferer from disease almost all of his life.He was a bright promising young man, barring his diseases. He was a member of the District Medical Society, members of which acted as pall bearers at his funeral. He died trusting in his maker." "DOCTORS DEBATING" "The Daviess County Medical District Society convened again here Monday March 4. The forenoon session was devoted to the discussion of medical topics in general. At the opening of the afternoon session, Dr. DJ Smith read before the Society a paper on the subject of La Grippe. It was good and reflected much light on our prevailing malady. It elicited much discussion.Dr W L Young followed wit a paper on the subject of Chronic Endometritis which was an able production and reflected credit upon its author. The session was a very interesting and instructive one. The Society adjourned at 5 pm to meet on Tuesday, April 1, with the following program: Treatment of Abortion-Dr A K Lane, discussion opened by Dr WL Young. Cholera Infantum-Dr S D Culmer, opening discussion by Dr D J Smith. This article attested to and submitted by Recording Secretary Dr. S F Harris. (Based on GGUncle Dr. HARRIS' DOB/DOD, this discussion had to take place sometime in the late 1880s or very early 1890s. I find their subject matter a true snapshot of medicine in post Civil War USA) "NEWS" "MAN KNOWN HERE, SON IS ARRESTED" "Jacksonville, FL, March 14- Arthur Vite, son of wealthy steamship Company owner in Bremen, Germany, was arrested here as an undesirable alien. It is said that he is an epileptic. It is alleged that Vite was smuggled into the United States on board an English tramp steamer and that he was confined for a time in a New York hospital under observation but escaped. Locally, relatives of the Vite family in Germany had nothing to say about Arthur except that he was known to them and that his father was a truly great man."
