    3. I just talked to the Distribution center at Salt Lake. They are out of the 1880 Census index CD. They have 50,000 coming in August 1st. If you ordered it and have not received it you may want to call them. If you placed the order over the internet your card was not charged, and the order canceled once they ran out. If you receive this on more than one list from me sorry. Martha

    2. In a message dated 01-06-03 10:48:56 EDT, you write: << Subj: Harris Date: 01-06-03 10:48:56 EDT From: L exSpence To: BandB4951 You wrote Jim Williams through <VARICHMO-L@rootsweb.com> about the William-Harris families. I was interested as my grandmother's first husband was Thomas Williams (-1777) but I find there are several who married a Rachel Brown (my brick wall). But I am writing to ask a silly question. Do you know of a Mary Harris, jr. who was the lone recipient of the will of Abraham Phenix (my grand father way back) made in 17 Jan 1749 and probated 26 Jun 1750., Brunswick County VA. It is a crazy request but sometimes such can have valid answers. I hope this isn't too much of a bother. Thank you for your interest. Luanne Spence Taylor >> Dear Luanne, Hi. Absolutely, it is no bother at all. I wish I had some information with which to help you. However, there might be something that will. The fact of Brunswick Co., VA may give me a direction to send you in. It is possible that your Mary HARRIS, Jr. might possibly connect with my HARRIS's of Isle of Wight Co., VA, some of which I believe, went into the Brunswick Co., VA area. I am sending you a link and the address for the webpages of Forest KING who has lots of information on the HARRIS and connecting families in Isle of Wight, Brunswick, Surry and Essex Co.'s, I believe. The info is below. <A HREF="http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/vafdking/harrst.htm">Isle of Wight Will Book 1 missing material</A> http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/vafdking/harrst.htm <A HREF="http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/vafdking/harrsg.htm">Isle of Wight Will Book 1 missing material</A> http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/vafdking/harrsg.htm <A HREF="http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/vafdking/harrsw.htm">Isle of Wight Will Book 1 missing material</A> http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/vafdking/harrsw.htm These are 3 different pages and 3 different urls for accessing these HARRIS pages. Then if you want to view additional information that Forest KING has at his site go to the top or bottom of either of those pages and you will see where it says MAIN INDEX. Just click on that and it will take to the different alphabetical groups that you can click on and then you will see the various many pages of information on these different family groups. Good luck. Sincerely, Bellinda Myrick - Barnett

    1. Re: DNA
    2. Since genealogy is so big on the Internet, let's take a look at the ways you can tell if you're taking it just a little too seriously... To put the "final touches" on your genealogical research, you've asked your closest relatives to provide DNA samples. Your house leans slightly toward the side where your genealogical records are stored. You decided to take a two-week break from genealogy, and the U.S. Postal Office immediately laid off 1,500 employees. You plod merrily along "refining" your recently published family history, blissfully unaware that the number of errata pages now far exceeds the number of pages in your original publication. During an ice storm and power outage, you ignore the pleas of your shivering spouse and place your last quilt around that 1886 photograph of dear Uncle George.

    3. I for one would not want DNA typing for genealogical use to be rejected out of hand. I would like for people to consider in a knowledgeable way what the potential consequences of submitting their and their families DNA are. I'm sure it is supposed to be kept private and secure. However private and secure only last until one or more of the following happen: 1- Some trusted person with access and insufficient integrity has a serious money or morals problem 2- Someone makes a plausible case to a judge and gets a court order 3- One or more persons successfully hack into the computer system where the data is kept 4- The company or organization fails and their physical property and data assets are purchased 5- The company or organization merges with another (whose purpose may be to gain access to the data) I'll quit after 5, but there are others, probably more than I can think of. When we make decisions that affect others, we should try to make them as responsibly as we can. Ignorance rarely results in responsible action. Thank you for your time. 3. I think it would be inappropriate for me try to educate anyone on the use or misuse of DNA data. The following link is to a site that provides a look at several aspects of DNA use. Both positive and negative aspects are discussed. The information appears to be designed for a "lay person" audience, so most people should be able to understand the concepts discussed. Anyone could "begin" their education here. http://www.geneart.org/genome-toc.htm Thank you for your time. 3. I hope all of the folks contributing their and their families DNA for genealogical use are fully aware of the other uses/abuses that can be made of a DNA sample/record. I know that there are many trusting and trustworthy people out there. However there are many who are not, worse yet there are few laws protecting individual or group privacy, and the ones there are, often aren't taken seriously. If you think this is not a serious issue, you are extremely under informed. I urge you to research the privacy issues, uses, and abuses (both actual and potential) relating to DNA. Research can begin at any Internet search engine or at your local library. This will not be as much fun as genealogical research, and it will take more than 30 minutes, BUT the issues and DANGERS as well as the potential positives are truly awe inspiring. 2. Hello, I am seareching for information on my 2nd HARRIS line from my anceestral grandmother, Jane HARRIS, born: abt. 1680, who maried James WILLIAMS, and their descendants were in Richmond Co, VA later. I don't know whether or not they connect but I think that they probably do. My 1st HARRIS lineage that I have been researching is that of Ann HARRIS who married Bridgeman JOYNER and that family tree is listed first in the information beeloew. Then the HARRIS line for which I am searching for any information is that of my 7th great grandmother, Jane HARRIS, born: abt. 1668, who married James WILLIAMS. That family tree is listed immediately below my note. In advance, I thank you for any assitance that you might be able to give. 3. I am trying to locate information on my Great Great Grandfather, James Jefferson Harris. He was born about 1826, possibly in Tennessee. He married Harriet Mariah BARZEE in Whiteside County, IL on June 29, 1846. They had the following children in Galena, IL: Andrew J. (b. January 31, 1848), my Great Grandfather William Henry (b. December 25, 1852), John F. (b. September 11, 1856) and Clara A. (born June 11, 1862). James served in the Civil War and died of yellow fever sometime prior to 1869 (possibly in 1867). I am trying to find out exactly where and when James was born, as well as any information about Andrew, John and Clara. John may have died in Arko, Oregon, in or around 1931. Clara married someone with the last name of BROWN and lived for some period in Colorado (according to her mother Harriet's obituary). I don't know anything at all about Andrew. I just can't seem to track any of them down! Any help that anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated. I have quite a bit of information on my GG Grandmother Harriet (although I'd welcome anything you may have on her as well). Thanks in advance -- and Happy Harris Hunting! :-) Tina M. Harris
