I Wonder if any lister can offer any suggestion as to what I should do next to find out more about my elusive ancestors George Harris and Sarah Andrew and their parents. I have been researching these folk for several years, but have not made any further progress over the last two years. So I am not sure what it is best to do next. So I need some advice from you folks. All practical suggestions are most welcome. However, as I am living in Canada, personal visits to records centres, etc. in England are not feasible at this time. Most of my reseach to date has been at the local LDS Family History Centre. The following is what I am trying to find and what I know already. What I am trying to find: - Who were Thomas and Martha HARRIS, the parents of George HARRIS (see first item under "known facts"), and where were they in 1841 and 1851? - Who were William and Ann ANDREW or ANDREWS, the parents of Sarah ANDREW, and where were they in 1841 and 1851? Known facts: - 25 February 1819 -Thomas HARRIS and Martha MASON married at West Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. (Source parish records). I do not know if these are the parents of George HARRIS. There were two Martha MASON's who were cousins. One baptized 30 September 1798 at Hughenden, Buckinghamshire, the daughter of Thomas MASON and Mary HAWKINS. The other baptized 20 April 1800 at Hughenden, Buckinghamshire, the daughter of George MASON and Mary PAYNE. - 29 March 1822 - George Harris born at Great Kingshill, Buckinghamshire. (Source: London Metropolitan Police pension record.) - 28 April 1822 - George Harris baptized at Hughenden, Buckinghamshire, the son of Thomas and Martha HARRIS. (Source: parish records.) - 7 June 1822 - Sarah ANDREW baptized at Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, the daughter of William and Ann. (Source: IGI. Information submitted by a member of the Mormon Church, who I wrote to. She said that she found the information at the Hertford Records Office. I could not find a record of the baptism in any of the existing C of E and non-conformist Hemel Hempstead parish records.) - 15 March 1829 - Ellen HARRIS baptized Abbots Langley, Hertfordshire, the daughter of Thomas and Martha HARRIS (Martha was written "Matthew") of Nash Mill. Thomas's occupation was listed as labourer and publican. (Source: parish records.) - 15 April 1832 - Thomas Moses HARRIS baptized Abbots Langley, Hertfordshire, the son of Thomas and Martha HARRIS of Nash Mill. Thomas's occupation was listed as publican.(Source: parish records). - 1841 census - I could not find the HARRIS's or ANDREW's in the Abbots Langley or Hemel Hempstead census entries. For Abbots Langley there was a William ANDREWS married to Sarah and a William ANDREWS married to Mary. All four ages was given as 45. - 5 March 1843 - George Harris marries Sarah Andrews at the Parish Church, Little Stanmore, Middlesex, after Banns. George's occupation was listed as Labourer. George's father was Thomas Harris, labourer. Sarah's father was Williams Andrews, labourer. The witnesses were Elizabeth Millard and William Watkins. (Source marriage certificate). - 24 March 1844 - Sarah Ann HARRIS baptized at West Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, the daughter of George and Sarah HARRIS. (Source: parish records). - 8 June 1845 - Thomas William HARRIS baptized at Great Stanmore, Middlesex, the son of George and Sarah HARRIS. (Source: parish records). - 1 December 1845 - George Harris joins the London Metropolitan Police, Warrant No. 22633. (Source: London Metropolitan Police pension record.) - 24 November 1846 - William HARRIS born at Highwood Hill, Middlesex (part of Mill Hill, Hendon), the son of George HARRIS (Police Constable) and Sarah HARRIS (formally ANDREW). (Source: birth certificate). - 1851 census for West Wycombe and Hughenden, Buckinghamshire. No record of Thomas and Martha HARRIS. - 1851 census for Hendon, Middlesex lists living at 40 Clock House: George HARRIS 28 Police Constable born High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire Sarah HARRIS 28 born Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire Thomas HARRIS 5 born Stanmore, Middlesex William HARRIS 4 born Hendon, Middlesex Sarah HARRIS 8 months born Hendon, Middlesex Ellen HARRIS visitor 22 born Abbots Langley, Hertfordshire - 11 July 1870 - George Harris resigns from "S' or Hampstead Division of the London Metropolitan Police with the rank of Sergeant, due to Rheumatism, and receives a annual pension of 48 pounds 10 shillings and 8 pence. He was then living at 42 Flask Walk, Hampstead. (Source: London Metropolitan Police pension record.) - 22 January 1881 - Sarah HARRIS dies from apoplexy and exhaustion. She was residing at the time at 120 Highgate Road, St. Pancras, Middlesex. The death was reported by her son Thomas William HARRIS, of 77 Bartholemew Road, Kentish Town, who was present at the death. (Source: death certificate.) - 1881 Census - George HARRIS, 120 Highgate Road, St. Pancras, Middlesex, widower 59 born Hughenden, Buckinghamshire, agent for Charity Organizing Committee. Assumptions - George HARRIS met Sarah ANDREW's when their parents were both living in the Abbots Langley --Hemel Hempstead area.

I have very little to go on in asking for help in my quest to find answers concerning the lineage of my great grand father, Jeff Harris.. He was probably born in the 1840s. He was married to Jane Rodden and they had at least one son, John Houston Harris (my grand father) He was born in either Oklahoma or Arkansas. I would appreciate any information that you might afford me. Thanks, RNH
I am looking for the parents and siblings of Buena/Bunie Vista Harris. Bunie was born in GA. Sept. 8, 1856 and died Sept. 14, 1916. She married William Daniel Holden born Mar. 15, 1859 and died Feb. 8, 1930. Both are buried in Alpharetta, GA. A possibility of father's name, Benjamin Harris, GA. and mother, Elizabeth unknown, Ala. A grandson wrote a poem in reference to Bunie, which stated that at the time of her death there were 3 brothers and 2 sisters living, along with her mother, age 86. William Daniel and Bunie Holden lived in Alabama for a period of time. Listed in the Anderson City Directory. Any information will be appreciated. Pat
Hello researchers: It is possibe that Anne, the wife of Edward Gurganey, was Capt John Woodliffe's sister, but more research is needed to prove this. I just recently was approved as a member of the Jamestowne Society. I had made application with Edward Gurganey as my qualifying ancestor. But the papers came back with notations that the there is doubt that Edward Gurganey had a daughter, Adria. I was instead approved under Capt Thomas Harris, Burgess. In fact the society's verifying genealogist, Lyndon Hart, had written an article dealing with the subject of Adia. [see Mag. of Va. Gen., Vol 34 Winter 1996 No 1 P51ff].Essentially it argued that Adry, wife of Thomas Harris, was actually Audry Hoare, a maiden who came to Virginia aboard the ship Marmaduke in August 1621. She was born at Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire, bp 28 Aug 1604. Her parents were Thomas Hoare and Julyan Tripplett. My genealogist, Paul Reed, has researched this further and says, "This is the ONLY Audry among the list of women to be transported to Virginia on the Marmaduke bound for Virginia in August 1621 [it arrived in November 1621]. Her age matches the age of Adria, wife of Thomas Harris." He went on to conclude that Audry was actually one and the same as Adria. Therefore, there is no direct connection with Edward Gurganey. However, the land patent issued in feb 1638/39 to Thomas Harris still suggests that there was a connection between Gurganey and Harris or Hoare. Note, the key to this is that Gurganey and Hoare families were both in Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire. And so was the Woodliffe family! So it now is certain that Thomas Harris' wife was Adry aka Adria aka Audry Hoare. [not Gurganey as has long been believed]. We have several more leads to follow in Aylesbury. We might also find more about the Harris line. Paul Reed would like to receive enough for 10 hours research to continue. He feels confident that some important new info is within reach. At $35/hour that's $350. So, if you can possibly donate some to this fund, please do. Let me know your thoughts, etc. My best, Jim Hancock

Some individuals have the following Ann TOMLIN who married Thomas HARRIS listed in their information as Ann MARTIN. >From what I have seen listing her Ann TOMLIN as the daughter of Martin TOMLIN/TOMLYN, it would appear that the information of Ann MARTIN is in error; however, if anyone has anything to contradict that I would love to know in order to correct that. Hi List, Sorry if you get this message more than once. SS is increasing the cost for copies of an ancestor's SS application. The fee was $7. It is now going to $27 starting July 1, 2001. Below is the website for SS Freedom of Information Act. About 1/2 down the page explains the new increases. I tried to copy and paste the info but it gave me errors when I tried to send the actual text. Sue macduff@infi.net Go to this site and check it out. http://www.ssa.gov/foia/foia_guide.htm

Hello: I am searching for anything I can find on my great-grandmother, Maggie Melinda Harris Bunch. I know all about her from about 1910 forward to her death in Dickenson County, VA. on February 13, 1967. She married Henry Bunch, son of Jesse Bunch and Ellen Williams Bunch. Jesse and Ellen were married in Hancock County, Tennessee, on October 12, 1880. That is all anyone in the family knows about them. I don't know when Henry and Maggie Melinda were married, but they lived in Hancock Co. for a short time before moving to Lone Mtn., Claiborne County, TN, where my granddaddy, James Carson Bunch was born. They are on the 1910 Claiborne County Census. In about 1912, they moved to Darwin, VA. in Dickenson County, where they lived for the rest of their lives. They are buried in Lick Fork Cemetery, above the church, between Darwin and Coeburn, VA. I have no idea who Maggie's parents were. I was told by a cousin that she was born in Hermansville, MO, but can find no such place in MO. On my granddaddy's birth certificate, it lists Maggie Harris as Mother and says she was born in Tennessee. The same cousin also told me that she had two sisters, Tyor and Mary Wallen. I have no idea why their names were Wallen and hers was Harris. She also was supposed to have had two brothers named Robert and Samuel. I know that she met Henry in Hancock County, Tennessee and Henry's parents, Jesse and Ellen Williams Bunch are buried on Newman's Ridge. I have a picture of Jesse and Ellen, the only one I know of in the family. It was found in my granddaddy's belongings after he died, and given to me. Thank goodness their names were written by him on the back, or none of us would have know who they were. He never talked about his grandparents at all. I hope that someone can help me find who Maggie's parents were and where she came from. I would sincerely appreciate any help, and hope that someone else has her in their family too. Sincerely, Elizabeth Bunch Smiddy
Hello Richard, I have a Michael Harris born ca.1810, according to census records born in South Carolina he was married to a Mary Unknown by ca. 1835, I don't know where. I find them in Livingston Parish, Louisiana by the 1860 census and that is the only time they appear. I suspect Michael's father could have been a James Harris, as he named the only son listed on the 1860 census James. Do you have any information on South Carolina Harris's in your database?
